Washington’s current identity has grown on me. The numbers on the helmets, the colors, uniforms. WFT. It shouldn’t work but it does. Just keep it.

Was that really roughing the QB? I get not being able to drive a guy into the turf, but there’s nothing a defender can do there. This league has such weird rules.

Chase Young got held by the guard and hit in the face by the tackle. Neither of those got called, but the full-body-weight roughing call did.

That’s not bad officiating — the hands-to-face call is hard to spot, offensive holding could be called on nearly every play, and there’s an emphasis on correctly calling roughing the passer. But tough break for Washington; probably costs them 4 points.

The cradle of the game.

I like everything except the name. It's got a certain 'lunch pail/no nonsense' appeal – but it's widely viewed as a placeholder that recalls their previous, insensitive name.

I love it but it apparently might be too generic to trademark? The almost bureaucratic name and uniforms seem to fit the city well
If memory serves, they can put the name on the secondary register and file for registration based on acquired distinctiveness (which would of course be a slam dunk) in five years. Accepting limited rights during that time is obviously a significant detriment, but they’re already two years in. I don’t think trademark is a reason not to move forward if they otherwise like the WFT name.

Really wish I could hear Eli’s disgust on that idiotic unnecessary roughness call

Borderline holding call costs G-men 4 points. Even Stephen.

88 speed in this year’s Madden. For reference, Mahomes is an 81, and Lamar Jackson is a 96.

Seems high to me.
From an article in October 2020:

According to Next Gen Stats, Jones maxed out at 20.64 miles per hour on the run, the fastest of his career and one of the fastest among all quarterbacks this season. In fact, Jones has three of the seven fastest QB speeds recorded this season, with the other four belonging to Lamar Jackson.

It could be my lack of fantasy interest in this game talking but I'm honestly not sure there's a matchup in the NFL I'm less interested in than NYG-WFT. Shame to not at least have Fitz.

Why is there a penalty on like 95% of exciting plays
They’ve littered the game with so many fouls, it’s just killing more and more exciting plays, and the overall flow of games. Gambling and fantasy keep it bullet proof, but I find myself disliking the on field product more and more, largely because of the number of flags being thrown.

That’s one of those plays that works because defenders aren’t allowed to hit receivers in the head anymore.

Not saying that’s a bad thing. But it’s a concrete example of a critical 30-yard play that probably will lead to points that would’ve either been an incomplete pass or (more likely) not thrown at all 20 years ago. Player safety is rightly the priority, but this is why scrub QBs are putting up numbers that Joe Montana would envy.

It's kind of hard watching games from the 70s, 80s, or 90s. You'll routinely see hits that would be flagged today.

(A number of them on Joe Montana.)

That's the worst call I've seen in forever.

He easily got the 1st down by 3 yards, and they called him a yard short. And it was obvious in replay. WTF just happened.
