Al Michaels confused a downed punter for a penalty flag.

If there was ever a time to confuse a human being for an inanimate object, that was it.

Anyone else been getting the Spanish-language feed for the last 5 minutes? I am NOT complaining, just surprised there's been no advisory flashed on-screen.

Not Lynn (or Ocean Side)

Yeah, it was bad but a suspension?

If the NFL doesn't consider that a hit worthy of suspension, they should make sure it is in the future. It wasn't necessary. The blocker could have eliminated the punter without obliterating him.

Not me. The machines might have started their takeover in your area.

I agree and he most likely wouldn't have had a play on the ball carrier. He could have hit him much lower.

Whether he caught that or not, the challenge should move the spot back a couple of yards. The side judge spotted forward progress as if he never juggled the ball.

This is what I meant.

He could have just blocked him with his hands instead of launching his helmet into the punter's chin.

He hit the punter with the crown of his helmet (illegal) and hit him right in the chops (also illegal). That really should receive heavy discipline.

I wasn't disagreeing that the hit was bad only that there isn't much of a precedent with these hits. Helmet to helmet, sure.

Again, I didn't say it was a good hit.  Only that a suspension is pretty unlikely.

Oh I know. I'm saying that there there should be. Hits like that should come with consequences.

Bengals fans really are like Charlie Brown with the football. They must have been celebrating their asses off earlier today, the #2 seed in sight. A few hours later and they're down 24-0 in the 2nd Quarter.

This result is cooling me down a bit. I don't think I've been this pissed off since SB 2011.
I've been furious after some regular season losses (2012 Ravens Week 3, first and foremost) but today? They lost a tight game to a solid Division opponent .

Overall, despite being ravaged by injury the Patriots are 10-4, and if the Bengals lose tonight they're still in sole possession of the #2 seed and a bye. It's pretty amazing.

I'd agree.  It was a chickenshit hit on the punter who wasn't even looking.

And that's why they haven't been kicking to Tate.

Two hated rivals, divisional matchup, PO spot/seeding at stake.

I venture to guess the score will be a lot tighter by the time 4th quarter comes around.

I could see this, but honestly 24-point comebacks just don't happen very often. I'll be surprised if the Bengals pull it off.
