And would have had to give up only Workman and Chavis to get them all.EVERYBODY ELSE THAT EVERY OTHER TEAM ELSE GOT!

Eh, it's just like a fantasy football auction. Drive up the price on the guys put up early so you're the only one with $ & can call your shots later.Media comments above seem to be greasing the wheels for a no move deadline unless I am reading it wrong
I wasn't really frustrated until I started reading some tea leaves and seeing the "Sale is our deadline acquisition" commentary start bubbling up. That feels like proactive spin in advance of getting no one. With all of the outrage here can I ask exactly who did we REASONABLY think the Sox might get, that's now off the board. Anthony Rizzo, Marte and?
It’s more that the LAD and MFY added more than I thought they would. That said, I can’t remember ever being satisfied with our moves on or immediately before the trade deadline. With all of the outrage here can I ask exactly who did we REASONABLY think the Sox might get, that's now off the board. Anthony Rizzo, Marte and?
Then Bloom doesn't think there is a move that would get this team a WS championship because what they have now isn't enough
Um.. Sale and tanner houck.I wasn't really frustrated until I started reading some tea leaves and seeing the "Sale is our deadline acquisition" commentary start bubbling up. That feels like proactive spin in advance of getting no one.
We hear that every year about any star player on any playoff contender that has missed a huge portion of the season and returning this time of the season.I wasn't really frustrated until I started reading some tea leaves and seeing the "Sale is our deadline acquisition" commentary start bubbling up. That feels like proactive spin in advance of getting no one.
It was clarified by others that Speier didn’t actually say that. He apparently was simply saying that the Sox are unlikely to deal their top prospects. He apparently said he expects there to be an acquisition or two.I wasn't really frustrated until I started reading some tea leaves and seeing the "Sale is our deadline acquisition" commentary start bubbling up. That feels like proactive spin in advance of getting no one.
2004 worked out nicely. It’s more that the LAD and MFY added more than I thought they would. That said, I can’t remember ever being satisfied with our moves on or immediately before the trade deadline.
Duffy is a 10/5 guy and I think would have declined a deal almost anywhere, judging from his quotes in the past. He grew up in LA and has Dodgers connections, that's why I think he said yes to them but I doubt he was an actual option for BOS.Tepera or Graveman would have been a nice fit. Danny Duffy isn’t spectacular but would be an upgrade over Richards.
Lux will not play when it matters once Seager is back.I guess I don’t follow the Dodgers closely enough, but I’m confused where all of the infielders are playing when Seager is back: Muncy, Lux, Seager, Turner x 2
Addition by subtraction. Subtracting from the Padres.I guess I don’t follow the Dodgers closely enough, but I’m confused where all of the infielders are playing when Seager is back: Muncy, Lux, Seager, Turner x 2
That’s when the Sox made a deadline deal in which they sent away the big name star, the best prospect in the deal, and threw in money to boot. There was a fair amount of second-guessing IIRC.2004 worked out nicely.
1) The Sox weren't going to touch the deal made for Turner and Scherzer. It’s more that the LAD and MFY added more than I thought they would. That said, I can’t remember ever being satisfied with our moves on or immediately before the trade deadline.
Everyone is still in posturing mode. There’s plenty of upgrades still available, and we’re still 18+ hours from the deadline. Breathe……….I wasn't really frustrated until I started reading some tea leaves and seeing the "Sale is our deadline acquisition" commentary start bubbling up. That feels like proactive spin in advance of getting no one.
In retrospect. At the time, not so much. I thought Theo had gotten too clever by half.2004 worked out nicely.
Like I said, it worked out nicely. That’s when the Sox made a deadline deal in which they sent away the big name star, the best prospect in the deal, and threw in money to boot. There was a fair amount of second-guessing IIRC.
I am so opposite on this view. I LOVE them. I want them back. That road uniform was a "no sale" on the cash register of uniforms
All it has to do is play first and hit better than Dalbec, so it could be missing a leg and still work. It's like a game of musical chairs ... and the chairs left for the Red Sox wobble and have duct tape keeping one of the legs together
Yeah I guess, but he’s fine against righties.Lux will not play when it matters once Seager is back.
I'd be fine with both of those things. The only change I'd make to those 2013 roadies is using the 60-70's era red stirrups with the blue and white stripes at the top with them.I am so opposite on this view. I LOVE them. I want them back.
And Schoop. I want those uni's and Jonathan Schoop.
Yeah, have to figure that Seager is gone.Yeah I guess, but he’s fine against righties.
Also seems odd for next year unless they aren’t planning on trying to resign Seager.
They drafted and developed Ellsbury. It's pretty common for the Sox not to get a player many or even most of us want them to get. Most of those situations have turned out OK. Exhibit A is ARod. Exhibit B is Ellsbury.
Outstanding. All that's missing is for the Nationals to send money to the Yankees are part of the deal
And lost him in free agency to the MFYThey drafted and developed Ellsbury.
Oh yeah, that would do me just fine, too.I'd be fine with both of those things. The only change I'd make to those 2013 roadies is using the 60-70's era red stirrups with the blue and white stripes at the top with them.
Yeah. I wasn’t getting the trade deadline connection, but I see your overall point. And lost him in free agency to the MFY
AmenSuch lack of faith in an organization that has won 4 World Series and which has assembled a team in first place. If they make a move I trust their judgment that they know what they’re doing.
This isn’t Lou Gorman and a bunch of good ol boy scouts deciding Jeff Bagwell isn’t going to be any good.
… who are still paying him for this year IIRC.And lost him in free agency to the MFY
A lot of people were disappointed Lowe was not traded for Clement. That’s when the Sox made a deadline deal in which they sent away the big name star, the best prospect in the deal, and threw in money to boot. There was a fair amount of second-guessing IIRC.
Eric Gagne just sprung to mind. I’ll console myself over any inaction by Bloom with the memory of his shockingly craptastic efforts.FWIW, my own view on this is that it is important to do something between now and the deadline. I just think it sends a message to the team that the front office believes they have a chance to win it. Even though many of these deadline acquisitions don’t amount to much in the end (Cliff Floyd, Dante Bichette, etc.) I think the message gives the team a shot in the arm heading into August.
I hope Bloom makes some move, even a small one.
Seems like the clear strategy. Try to get an Aguilar type for next to nothing, which would be a real upgrade, while keeping the blue chip guys.It would appear that Chaim is letting everybody else burn their resources. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him clean up some parts for nothing. I always respect the long play.
Perez is perfectly fine for a 5th starter. After watching the Sox get bludgeoned again by Toronto and ERod's ERA going up to a Richardsian 5.60, maybe the concerns about starting pitching were valid after all.
Sale and Houck should be great replacements for those two, but then we also have Martin Perez to worry about, and he generally can only make it twice through a lineup.
Yeah he really is the anti-Dombrowski. DD’s strategy, as I recall, was to identify his guys early and pull the trigger weeks or even months before the deadline when the market wasn’t as hot.Seems like the clear strategy. Try to get an Aguilar type for next to nothing, which would be a real upgrade, while keeping the blue chip guys.
Yes. And while it got us a WS we saw what it did to our farm System.Yeah he really is the anti-Dombrowski. DD’s strategy, as I recall, was to identify his guys early and pull the trigger weeks or even months before the deadline when the market wasn’t as hot.
Is he even around anymore? 'Cause I'm supposed to outlive him and I was never clear what that meant precisely.A lot of people were disappointed Lowe was not traded for Clement.
Sean Berry loved the trade on the day of more than anyone I can recall.
We have good luck with players that the Twins don't feel like extending. They’re not gonna re-sign him, for some reason they’ve given up on contending next year, and his value will only decline from here on out.
Picking over the leavings is a perfect strategy for a team that doesn't need much, is in first place already, and doesn't have a huge number of top prospects to deal. Take the best first baseman that's still around at 3 tomorrow.Seems like the clear strategy. Try to get an Aguilar type for next to nothing, which would be a real upgrade, while keeping the blue chip guys.
I loved them and miss them as well. Only Sox jersey I’ve ever purchased.I am so opposite on this view. I LOVE them. I want them back.
And Schoop. I want those uni's and Jonathan Schoop.
