Probably but then again Pivetta, Whitlock, and Arroyo we’re all bargain basement pieces of garbage and they’ve all turned into solid (or better) players so maybe that’s not the worst thing in the world?
Sure during the off season, but when you're in a race you also need to pull the trigger on a 1st baseman when you urgently need one.

I’ll wait until 4p tomorrow to be enraged, but so far, not pleased at all how this deadline has gone.

I'd like to see them get a 1B and a BP arm but if they don't I'm OK with it. They have the best record in the AL so far even with their current holes/needs. They're getting Sale back soon, Houck looks like he's going to help which one way or another strengthens the BP, Arroyo's coming back.
There are still 19 hours until the trade deadline, a lot can happen. I'm not ready to panic now and won't at 4:00 tomorrow even if they do nothing. The fact is that either SD or LA, maybe both, is going to give up a big part of their farm system and not win. I don't want to be in that position either.

Sox unlikely to make a deal. Speier on NESN saying, "sometimes the goal is to drive up the price for other teams to acquire players." "The Dodgers and the Rays didn't make many moves last year and they went to the WS and Bloom took note of that ...." Sox getting ahead of the PR flack ....
If these are going to be the prices thats fine by me... Dodgers are lucky they Won the WS last year, given the amount of money they have spent on FA and prospects they have traded the past few seasons... Also the NL west is not the cake walk it used to be for the dodgers, where they would literally be the only team above 500 in the NL west....

Also as we all saw with DD, we sold the farm for a WS and are now slowly building pack the pipeline)
I get the feeling we're going to end up with some bargain basement piece of garbage that Bloom rescues off the scap heap.
Steve Pearce?
Eovaldi?
Kinsler? .
all want to fight you...
Lets not forget journeyman Steve Pearce.
Yup..

exactly... Did we all forget where Bloom came from?

Such lack of faith in an organization that has won 4 World Series and which has assembled a team in first place. If they make a move I trust their judgment that they know what they’re doing.

This isn’t Lou Gorman and a bunch of good ol boy scouts deciding Jeff Bagwell isn’t going to be any good.

I mean a bullpen arm would also be nice because as solid as guys like Darwinzon and Valdez have been they’re precisely the kind of guys who could turn into pumpkins at any time.

Yes, you're right of course. Just a bit of "game threading" so to speak before the trade deadline.

I suspect the score in the game juxtaposed with the lack of willingness to improve the team are working in concert to fuel frustration.

Unfortunate combo

Although they don't have to beat us over the head with "Nobody else can trade for Chris Sale" tomorrow. I think we all know that.

I know it's not directly relevant to this thread, but after 3.5 innings tonight we're on track to have a worse game than the MFYs.

When have they ever showed a "lack of willingness to improve the team"?

Chris Sale is great. If they didnt make a move at SP they absolutely could have said that and I would have bought in. Dude cannot play first though.

How much would a package of Josh Bell and Daniel Hudson cost? Hudson would be a rental and Bell is under control next year. Bell might get more expensive than we would like given his 2019 performance (which looks like more of an outlier than anything).

My experience living in Pittsburgh and lightly following the Pirates is that Bell was a steaky hitter who looks like he's all world one week and awful the next. It's possible that impression isn't totally accurate. I do recall his 2019 was basically two months of insane production and the rest fairly pedestrian.

I'm not taking a broad philosophical knock on the team I literally mean not acquiring a player that can improve the during during the current deadline period.
Oh, they have some time. Demand for pieces is only going to go down. Supply greater than demand this year, especially at 1B, & once others shoot their shot, value should be optimal.

Media comments above seem to be greasing the wheels for a no move deadline unless I am reading it wrong

Then Bloom doesn't think there is a move that would get this team a WS championship because what they have now isn't enough

The Dodgers seem to have an absolutely endless supply of incredible prospects that they can trade for stars.

It shows they know how to draft and develop. And that they have the money to keep adding expensive players.

They, not the Yankees, are the new 500-pound gorilla in MLB.

With all of the outrage here can I ask exactly who did we REASONABLY think the Sox might get, that's now off the board. Anthony Rizzo, Marte and?
Tepera or Graveman would have been a nice fit. Danny Duffy isn’t spectacular but would be an upgrade over Richards.
