I remember a time when Patrick Chung was a massive liability and found himself on another team. Can't really remember how he did when he came back though, does anyone remember?
I remember him being utilized much closer to the line and being used more in man to man matchups against bigger receivers and TEs when he came back, which allowed him to thrive because he struggled in space when utilized as a traditional safety in his first stint here. Collins wasn't a good coverage linebacker with the Pats and the Pats need a good coverage linebacker, so if he can come back and contribute as a pass rusher or in another role, that'd be great, but not really what I'd eat his salary for.I remember a time when Patrick Chung was a massive liability and found himself on another team. It's not. Chung signed a one year deal back in 2014 for like $1M with hardly any money guaranteed and Collins would require sending a valuable pick and using up even more valuable cap space. Their two situations are completely different other than on a high level "former player comes back for a second stint" kind of way.How is Jamie Collins' situation similar to Chung's and what about this similarity indicates a similar outcome?
The fact that the Patriots are thinking about it? If that's the case then they clearly think that he may no longer have the problems he did before. How is Jamie Collins' situation similar to Chung's and what about this similarity indicates a similar outcome?
Or Jamie Collins even with the same problems as before may still be a better solution then what they currently have at Linebacker. We don't know their evaluations but if they think Jamie Collins was and would still be a "B-" but their current group is a "D+" then he represents an upgrade, warts and all.The fact that the Patriots are thinking about it? Look, I’m all for addressing the situation and have stated it repeatedly. But Howe typing it is pretty tough for me to consider more than clicks. The fact that the Patriots are thinking about it? If that's the case then they clearly think that he may no longer have the problems he did before.
What off the field issues?Collins was traded because he wouldnt follow assignments, was ignoring responsibilities and had off field issues.
He was listed as questionable on yesterday’s injury report with a knee injury. That report would be a lot more credible if anyone else reported that Hightower was a healthy scratch but what’s known to us now suggests the exact opposite.Pats Pulpit writer

Jeff Howe termed his deactivation as a surprise. Yes. Though I’m not sure I’d call the WR group particularly strong. If Gordon sparks a bowl tonight, he’s out of the league.I know less about football than anyone in the Pats FO. That said, isn't trading a LB for a WR a case of making a weak group weaker to make a (relatively) strong group stronger?
It makes sense if they are floating it out there so other teams (Lions?) know they're looking at other WRsThey’re not taking a 7.5m dead cap but just for shits. This rumor makes no sense.
I'm pretty sure they don't let that on the sideline. If Gordon sparks a bowl tonight, he’s out of the league.
Yeah he'd have to use a one-hitter.I'm pretty sure they don't let that on the sideline.
Maybe you missed the reports that Michel returned to practice on Friday? I can understand that, as there has been a bit going around these parts recently.Yeah we don’t need a RB (as Patterson takes his tenth carry to lead the team...)
Even with a healthy Michel they need help. White has been injured in the past and his workload has been huge. I don't want these guys to run out or steam come playoff time.Maybe you missed the reports that Michel returned to practice on Friday? As far as NFL players go White has been relatively injury-free. He’s only missed 4 games in last 4 seasons.Even with a healthy Michel they need help. White has been injured in the past and his workload has been huge. I don't want these guys to run out or steam come playoff time.
Last year he started off scorching hot and then did pretty much nothing after the bye. He's carried the offense thus far and I don't want to risk the same thing happening in 2018.As far as NFL players go White has been relatively injury-free. He’s only missed 4 games in last 4 seasons.
He’s also on pace for 180-200 touches. It’s a lot for him but not actually a heavy workload.

I’m guessing/hoping the Pats may have encouraging news that Burkhead can contribute before too much longer.Yeah we don’t need a RB (as Patterson takes his tenth carry to lead the team...)
It's even better than that; two of those missed games were healthy scratches early in 2015 before he established himself. IIRC, before he missed a couple games last year, he had never even been limited in practice. As far as NFL players go White has been relatively injury-free. He’s only missed 4 games in last 4 seasons.
Yeah, but pre-bye he had 43 catches for 365 yards in 8 games and after he had 13 catches for 64 yards in 6 games.Out of his 3 receiving TD last year, 2 came after the bye.
I think they’d have to in order to fit any of the rumored targets under the cap, and they’re not gonna carry six WR plus Slater.Rapaport says the Patriots may also trade a WR today. Hogan and Dorsett were mentioned.
There were a couple of reports from Reiss that seemed to indicate that Burkhead could be activated when he is eligible in Week 12. However, those reports were right after he went on IR, and there's been the usual amount of information forthcoming from the team about their injured players. I personally think it's a bit of a long shot; he was concussed Week 1, then came back and went out with what was termed a neck injury. Is it generally considered that Burkhead is out for the year or is there hope he returns? He's been brittle with the NEP and even if he comes back there's no assurance that he remains healthy (in fact, he'll likely get hurt again), but I wonder if adding Michel and Burkhead is what the team is thinking, which means they are not focused on RB at the deadline
On Jamie Collins:
"Linebacker Jamie Collins of the Cleveland Browns has been discussed in trade talks with the New England Patriots. Patriots traded Collins to the Browns just two years ago. (Jeff Howe, The Athletic)"

Now watch them deal for Garçon.
I’d love the HR threat of D Jax, but he doesn’t block a lick.

Bruce Irvin has been not great this year, but he has no guarantee after this season and is allegedly available for a late round pick might be a decent flyer for a situational pass rusher
Will anyone here be surprised four hours from now (it's 4pm EST, right?) when the deadline comes and goes and we don't get anyone at all, much less a "premium wide receiver"? I'd be more surprised if any of these actually *did* happen.Rapaport says the Patriots may also trade a WR today. Hogan and Dorsett were mentioned.
Yes, I would be surprised if literally nothing happened. Belichick likes to tinker and he has real needs and apparently a decent supply of teams looking to dump guys. Will anyone here be surprised four hours from now (it's 4pm EST, right?) when the deadline comes and goes and we don't get anyone at all, much less a "premium wide receiver"? Yup. It all depends on pricing. Pats won’t panic and make moves just to make moves. But guys are definitely available, maybe moreso than in past years. And the fact that the Pats haven’t had a bye yet works in their favor as they have an extra week to integrate any new guys in a couple weeks. They also have the draft capital to make a move.No because what they do is always situational — “it depends.”
Some media people are treating this like childbirth, though, and will be really disappointed if nothing materializes. Hightower to Detroit was quite something.

Fitz is obviously coming but who knows after that?
It would be a chance for a young player or journey man to put some performance on tape vs. NFL defenses. There is value in that for fringe guys, even if it's just a short-term opportunity. Throw in Michel's knee issues and Burkhead's injury history and you have additional upside hanging around the Pats roster.I think the problem with RB is that they're in a weird no-man's land. Ideally they would add somebody who's significantly better than Barner or a guy like Kenneth Farrow, but they don't need a starter when Michel is healthy, and White has the third-down back role locked down, so how much are they really going to pay?
Now that'll be awkward this weekend. Good move for Texans though.Demariyus Thomas is close to going to the Texans for a mid round pick per Ian Rapaport.
