Didn't find any threads covering running, track & field events.

ESPN/WCVB are carrying the Boston Marathon nationally starting this year. Maria Stephanos and Ed Harding throwing it to Sage Steele and John Anderson this morning.

Approximately 1:02:15 half marathon split. 2:03:02 is the Men's course record the Kipchoge is after. Pretty large pack of elite men still, which makes me think they haven't really put the hammer down yet on the pace.

I know the BAA hyped him up too, but it's worth a small chuckle that WCVB has been all Kipchoge all day, and he might end up outside the top 5.

Emma Bates hanging in there.

What a story she is, though. 2nd in Chicago 2021, but she's 30 years old and other than that has never really contended at the marathon majors. Does she have a better kick waiting because of all her 10k experience?

edit: OK yeah Bates is toast, should hold onto 5th though. If they put a camera motorcycle in between you and the lead pack, you're not in that pack.

That looked like they messed up with the 2nd and 3rd women runners, making them shift to the other finish chute.

At one point after Kipochege crossed the finish line, the chyron marked him as the Winner, but it was quickly taken down.
The funny part about Emma is that they had a bio package for the other American elite women (Rojas, Sara Hall), and Emma Bates was noticeably missing, even though she hung out out front since the start. Crazy that she ran a faster time than her second place finish in Chicago by 2 minutes (and Chicago is considered a faster, flat, marathon)

NBC put the world feed on Peacock for a few marathons. Those were generally enjoyable. Good to see the CVB folks get the national limelight today.

London marathon is next Sunday (and there is no coverage in the US)

I was working the post-finish line area and the buzz was going through that he was at record pace...very fun
Unfortunately, the pot holes/poor pavement on some streets may have cost the US favorite View: https://www.instagram.com/p/CyJdt9XuSKr/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

When could the marathon world record be broken next? The races Kelvin Kiptum might target - The Athletic

Nice to see running coverage on The Athletic

Another key note: Boston isn’t a record-eligible course due to its net downhill elevation — 459 feet from start to finish — and start-to-finish separation. The world was reminded of that when Geoffrey Mutai won the 2011 Boston Marathon in 2:03:02, 57 seconds faster than the world record at the time. While that still stands as the course record, it wasn’t ratified as the world record by World Athletics.
