You seem to be the only one taking this personally.

Everything said on this board that you take issue with has stemmed from things you said (on this board). If you can't defend your own statements on their merits, at least own them. You act like you haven't brought this on yourself in some part, and it's more than a little disingenuous.

I mean, you feel victimized by our "trolling"? You said something over the top and ridiculous on the day our teams were playing in the fucking super bowl, but since your team lost you want to play the victim because some of us made fun of you for it?

More to the point tho; nothing anyone said has been close to crossing the line of being "too personal". You act like talking shit about the Seahawks is akin to calling your wife ugly. Just let it go and laugh it off. Christ. It's embarrassing. Nobody is trying to hurt your feelings, you're letting that happen all by yourself.

This thread on policing morality was capably summarized by Slate Star Codex:

Toxoplasma is a neat little parasite that is implicated in a couple of human diseases including schizophrenia. Its life cycle goes like this: it starts in a cat. The cat poops it out. The poop and the toxoplasma get in the water supply, where they are consumed by some other animal, often a rat. The toxoplasma morphs into a rat-compatible form and starts reproducing. Once it has strength in numbers, it hijacks the rat’s brain, convincing the rat to hang out conspicuously in areas where cats can eat it. After a cat eats the rat, the toxoplasma morphs back into its cat compatible form and reproduces some more. Finally, it gets pooped back out by the cat, completing the cycle.

It’s the ciiiiiircle of life!

What would it mean for a meme to have a life cycle as complicated as toxoplasma? [emphasis added]

Not defending Wibi or anything but I truly wonder if it is a mindset of Seattle fans.  I trolled a friend of mine from Seattle (not personally) with postings on FB about the crap people were spewing during the build up, including Lynch and his snub of the kid on Media day (I actually used #bitchmode for that act on Tuesday).  So after the game I again had some celebratory postings, not personal but she continually took deflategate stabs at the Pats (which is fine, all part of trash talk)  Then inexplicably this conversation happened:

I just need to not talk to you until you get this mean streak out of your system friends don't kick friends when they are hurting my head is held high but my heart hurts if it had gone the other way I would have text you and said good game not blasted your team on FB see us when your done

sorry you feel that way, after everything this team had gone through the last 2 weeks and everything people said about them. People just kept piling on and they executed a victory.

That's true but Jason I didn't and you targeted me! That hurts so when your done let me know

I never mentioned you once

Jason we are 12 and when you shit on the 12 it's personal my point is be a good winner and celebrate your win without shitting on us it's just good sportsmanship pre game trash talk is different then pouring salt in the wounds

I am a good winner just returning what was given to my team over the last 2 weeks by countless others, turn about is fair play

No it's not it's poor sportsmanship so like I said your my friend and if you want to stay my friend like I do then please just don't talk to me until you can say congrats to the Seahawks on a great game! Until then see ya later

it was a great game, unbelieveable game maybe the best SB ever never said it wasnt a good game

Holy shit, I can't even think of a word that properly describes that sentence.  Some sort of amalgamation of uberdramatic, stupid, and oversensitive, with a good size helping of delusion of grandeur mixed in.  Does such a word exist?  Can I create one?

I know that having a keyboard allows us to criticize everything and anything.  But damn, are we really going to critique how Pats players reacted to being handed a juvenile t-shirt while standing on a duckboat in the midst of a victory parade?  This is not something that was premeditated, I assume.  Blount didn't wake up yesterday and think that he hoped he would be handed an edgy or inappropriate shirt and think through how he'd react.  "If that happens, I'll just ignore it.  Yeah, that's it."  This reminds me of idiot Yankees fans who in low tones decry Pedro for not in the split second when dead Don Zimmer was charging him didn't think of a "better" reaction that acting like a bullfighter.  "Pedro is CLASSLESS I tell you; he should have cradled Zim in his arms and gently laid him on the grass."  I know, I know, Pedro only had an instant to react and Blount had time to think.  But that difference isn't material in my book.

Agreed. My only complaint of the whole parade was the 'Bitch Mode' shirt. Doesn't make any sense. Beast Mode is a beast, played his ass off all year, and seems like a pretty good guy (when not dealing with the media and even I find that hilarious).

Guys like Sherman and Baldwin deserved to be mocked because when they are on top they never shut up.

Especially Baldwin, since Sherman can at least back it up. Inside the NFL Super Bowl edition Baldwin was taking shit about Revis on the sideline after his touchdown, saying he got open because he's great (or something to that extent). Never mind that the only reason he was open was the pick by the back judge.

Back to the point; dumb move by LGBT (in his defense the Boise State player deserved to get knocked out ) who by all accounts is a moron, but wow that Seahawks fan should get over it, her team is one of the biggest shit talking teams, before, during, and after the game.

Man, if that isn't a]the difference between west coast/east coast sports culture, I don't know what is. Talk about hyper-sensitive.  I spent the first 30 minutes after the game in pier-six verbal brawl with 2 Giant fan friends of mine who chose that moment to start talking shit about the 2 super bowls we lost to them, and how Brady is over-rated. I literally called them every iteration of douche-bag you could think of. 15 minutes later we were doing shots and laughing about it.

That's not quite right, Rip.  And even if it was right, the situations are not really comparable.

My letter to Damon was as follows, in essence: "Dear Johnny, I'm enclosing the Red Sox Johnny Damon jerseys that my wife and kids owned and used to wear to Sox games.  Your decision to accept the higher coin from the Yankees, a decision you made after writing in a book that you knew they would come after you and offer you more money than Boston and that you would not accept all things considered, was yours to make.  But it has consequences and one of them is that fans who truly adored you and wore your jerseys are now heart broken and, as a result, no longer have any use for the jerseys.  I hope you will understand the impact your decision will have on fans like that and that the extra money was worth it."

I wrote the letter in that way because (a) it was true that my wife and kids' jerseys were now worthless and (b) I was taking a shot at making him feel badly, even if the odds were low that he would see the letter and, if he did, that he would give a damn.  But the latter seemed to work; Damon's lackey called me to explain how the Yankees clearly wanted Damon more and that Johnny felt badly that fans in Boston were hurt, and urged me to take the jerseys back.

This situation is different.  Some people are criticizing how guys on boats act when confronted with funny or vile or whatever signs and shirts and that strikes me as a lot less premeditated than something like Johnny Damon's decision.  Plus, I was just messing with him and shared the story here only because of how astounding it was to me that someone who works for him actually called me in response to my letter.

PS: PM me if you're interested in pursuing that Brady painting.

Only issue I have with Lynch was during media day when a little kid got to the front and asked him a question and for an autograph and he did his "I'm just here so I don't get fined" thing. I thought it was kind of a dick move and especially after experiencing more press on him since that day, it seems like it was out of character for him. I've seen a lot of press about how much work he does in his community, kids included.
Whoever sent the kid had to know Lynch's deal with the press.

It's just not clever, and it doesn't make sense. It'd be like Apollo rolling into the hospital with a "Rocky Bitchboa" t-shirt at the beginning of Rocky II. Did I miss Lynch getting stuffed three times from the one and then whining to the refs or something?

On the other hand, it has been an almost a day since society had something to get enraged about.

I've been over the LeGarrette Blount experience for quite a while now. I'm probably in the minority, but I just don't get the love.

Yeah, yeah...he runs well against the Colts, I get it.

But he also pulled that ugly punching stunt in college, disappeared in the 2013 AFCCG, walked of the field in Pittsburgh, talked about it in a less-than-smart way during Super Bowl week, and disappears again vs. Baltimomore and Seattle in the playoffs. I think Gray could have done just as well against Indy (though we're hearing more and more about a nasty high ankle sprain).

Then, when they win the Super Bowl, he's in every damn celebration camera shot. I can't escape the guy. Draped all over Butler at the end of the game, to the point where I can't even see the dude who made the play. Storming the NFL Network set. And now the shirt. I'm sorry, but I could do without him next year. Give Gray his chance (and talk about faux rage - Alarmgate? Oooooo)

Blount's the guy at the party who brings a six-pack of Coors for the fridge and proceeds to drain the keg of craft beer. Then wants to take a selfie with everyone.

Plus, he tiptoes. I get Maroney flashbacks.

For what it's worth, Seattle's agreement with Texas A&M states they can't use the term "12th Man" after 2016, which is why they're trying to copyright "12" and rebrand it. So far, so good it seems,

Looking into this further, I was under the impression that 'fag' as a term was based on actual violence against gay men.  I guess this isn't true.  So, I take back my misplaced anger over the comparison of the two terms.  Thanks wikipedia.

Edit: I should add that I personally consider 'fag' to be a more offensive word than 'bitch.' If you call someone a 'fag' you are calling them a homosexual where being gay is the insult. If you call someone a 'bitch' you may be calling them an obnoxious complainer, and while that use of the term may be based on misogynist history, to me, it seems to be a step removed from calling someone a female where being female is the insult. I find terms like vagina or c*nt more offensive but that's me and I realize others may have a different opinion.

See below.

The Allented Mr Ripley said:

That's all fine and good, but you were saying that using the word bitch in the context of complaining was not misogynistic, when it absolutely is. Who bitches? A bitch, that's who. They're absolutely linked.

I'm not a big fan of word policing, but willful ignorance is by far a bigger sin.

Yes.

GBA said:
Actually I'm pretty sure the negative aspects of bitch originally meant whiney and/or sexually aroused in a way similar to a female dog in heat and not necessarily aimed at women. As for modern (non-feminist) usage...yeah pretty mysoginistic, though with some definite usage exceptions. Still dumb on blounts part but pretty forgivable in the grand scheme of things

See above.

DennyDoyle'sBoil said:
It's kind of true, though. Some words acquire a secondary meaning and I think "bitch" is one of them. It can be used now in a unisex way to refer to complaining. And while clearly that use derives from a misogynistic place, that shouldn't be confused with the speaker's intent. One can say the speaker should think about it more, but I think that's a lesser sin.

Here though I don't think the word was used to mean complain. I think it was used as an opposite of "beast," to imply that Lynch is really "like a girl" or whatever -- in other words about one of the worst uses of the word imaginable. What Blount thought he was communicating or what his intent was is unknown.

No.

And I'm no saint when it comes to such matters; I still use these words myself; albeit far more sparingly as time goes on and I've realized what their usage says about me. But I know what they mean and why, and if I do use them, that's a conscious choice. I support people people being able to say what they want, but I do have a problem with them denying the meaning of what they're saying.
