Yeah, that's a source OUTSIDE of the Celtics organization saying Ainge like players like Jackson. Yes, most GMs do.

They also really like players like Fultz.

That's a story to fill column space.

While Jackson would have made a decent consolation prize if the Cs hadn't won the lottery, the one big question about him is that a lot of his success in college came from playing the small ball 4 at Kansas. However, he's only 205 pounds (comparatively, JB was 225 last year) so he's not going to be able to guard NBA 4s.

While he's definitely going to be in the NBA for a long time due to his ability to defend 1-3, there are more ?s about him than Fultz in terms of him becoming a multi-year All-Star.

Last year it was that the Sixers were considering Ingram and the Lakers thinking Marquese Chris at #2.

Fultz will be the #1 pick. In a world where the Cs genuinely like Jackson the most, they trade down with Philly, get the guy they wanted anyway, plus whatever else they can extract.

also, that anonymous GM lost me when he said Jackson is "long", when one of the biggest knocks against him is his length is adequate for a 3 but inadequate at the 4.

That site is terrible. The pick is going to be Fultz.
Regardless of who is picked first you nailed it in that nbadraft.net is far and away the worst. I posted something on this each of the past two years where their "analysts" made several obvious and blatant errors. It isn't surprising that they would characterize one of Jackson's strengths as his length/wingspan......that site is beyond awful.

I believe this is that site's final 2016 mock. Only picks they nailed were Simmons, Ingram, Bender, and Brice Johnson.

after that, it was as good as anyone's guess though. No one here knew who the C's were taking. Not to defend that site, but last year was hard to predict.

Can anyone tell me a recent case of a top-tier talent playing for a college team that was shitty (talent and record-wise), coming to the NBA, and having a successful career? It's something that worries me and I know I am dwelling too much on this point. I know not everyone can be Larry Bird, but still....

Same rumor as yesterday--anonymous GM.

We're in the "Mitch Trubinsky could go #1 in NFL draft area" right now.
This is true. 'Tis the season for rampant anonymously sourced reports. That said, they're moving the needle with at least some folks...

Obviously Fultz is still the heavy favorite.

The only thing I can think is that they are about to pull of a blockbuster trade and it requires more picks. Because trading down to acquire future picks makes no sense.

FYI, here are the Sixers current & future picks they have to play with:

2017

  • 1st round pick – Kings (swapped the 76ers 5th overall pick for Sacramento’s 3rd overall pick)
  • 2nd round pick – Knicks (36th overall)
  • 2nd round pick – Mavs (39th)
  • 2nd round pick – Heat (46th)
  • 2nd round pick – Hawks (50th)
2018

  • 1st round pick – 76ers
  • 1st round pick – Lakers (unprotected)
  • 2nd round pick – 76ers
  • 2nd round pick – Nets or Cavs (whichever is better)
  • 2nd round pick – Clippers or Knicks (whichever is better)
2019

  • 1st round pick – 76ers
  • 1st round pick – Kings (unprotected)
  • 2nd round pick – 76ers
  • 2nd round pick – Bucks or Kings (whichever is better)
  • 2nd round pick – Knicks

We don't know how Danny evaluates the lottery candidates. If he thinks he can get someone he wants at 3, then I guess...in Danny we trust?

I'd like to think he understands the quarter vs. nickel argument.

Hmm. I would really prefer a player but if this involves sending Philly's picks for a bigger deal for a "can't-miss" player, I wouldn't be opposed to this.

I wonder if the Sixers would let us choose between the 1st they have from the Lakers next year and their own 1st next year depending on what's lower?

Boy would this be fucking dumb. Might as well trade IT too if we're going all-in on MOAR PICKS.

I'd be ok with it if it was for a package of picks that Danny would turn around for a superstar, but essentially trading Fultz for the #3 and a future first? Blech.

If this isn't Danny moving toward a blockbuster, is this Danny going all in on IT?

This is stupid. If they're flipping picks for players, who would be available that would put them at the same level as Cleveland and Golden State?

Ainge has hit on some picks later in the draft, but he also tried to trade 4 #1s for Justice Winslow. This feels more like the latter.

The Sixers might not even be that bad next year if they stay healthy. That's such a huge gamble that the future pick turns to garbage. Likewise, the Lakers have no more reason to tank.

He's a fine drafter but not nearly good enough imo to trust that his favorite guy is the right guy, particularly in the event that it's not the top guy. Who knows, I'll eat my previous words if this leads to a Davis level acquisition but if he isn't getting an unheard of boatload in this deal then I don't really see the point. Also I don't want fucking Bill Simmons to be proven right about anything.

This tells me Ainge likes Jackson at least as much as Fultz, if not more. So in his mind he's not trading a quarter for three dimes, he's trading a quarter for a quarter and several dimes.
