Great. We can watch Woody get concussed and Potato try to explain why there was a slight bobble going to ground.

what happens if someone gets stretchered off the field?
Do we have those little green army men try to carry buzz lightyear off on a stretcher?

I think this has come up previously - they did a similar thing with an NHL game last season. It was Big City Greens themed, a show my kids love. They were enthralled and otherwise would never watch a hockey match.

That show features Simpsons-esque animation. Pixar-quality 3D seems like a bigger challenge. Most of the view was an overhead shot, so I’d expect something similar. Maybe they’ll animate the all-22?

Yeah. My daughter doesn’t give a rip about watching football unless we put out some nachos. But she’s LOVED the Nickelodeon slime time game each year to the point where every Sunday when I turn a game on she asks if there’s a Nick version. We’ll definitely tune in for this.

Cant think of a reason why not to give it a watch.
I'm sort ofcurious how they handle the PBP and analysis in this format.

Reminder for The Toy Story game this morning. I would have no interest in this game but I will be tuning in.
Just realized the actual game and the Toy Story game are both on ESPN+. Toy Story is also on Disney Plus. Not on TV.

I wonder if people looking forward to watching this game know this.

Between here and everywhere.
People mock this, but my 9 year old daughter who gives not a single shit about sports saw this when she opened Disney+ this morning and was disappointed we’d miss it while at her soccer game.

She also loved the Big City Green hockey game, so..

Zero interest in this myself, though it’s completely harmless, and I have no problems with it at all. I will say generally that I’m skeptical these things actually grow the game or create a significant number of new fans among kids who weren’t already interested in the sport. More likely they just think the animated version is cool, and then go right to back to ignoring the regular games. I’ll go back to yelling at clouds now.

Watching this would seem to require something other than coffee

glitch City…I’m out.
I just watched "the claw" place the ball down for the start of a play...but not put the ball down. Instead, the ball appeared halfway across the field and zoomed down the sideline on its own.

Which is good. Because in the middle of that play, the camera cut away from the action to focus on the ball sitting on the sideline being held by what I can only assume was the ghost of Andy.

The ball zooming was awesome. Ball goes where it wants to go.

Yeah how do i get those? Do you have to buy a subscription?
To be honest, you're really not missing anything.

When they show the play, it's basically a zoomed out view where you can barely see the play and can't tell if it's players over a green screen or animated.

When the play ends, then it cuts to the animated players walking around or shows a random clip of a toy story character.

We just replaced our Roku so the Disney+ login we had from our friend is gone and I don’t feel like calling her for the Shroom version of the game.

Yes. I wonder if these one off things like ESPN+ games or the Friday night MLB games on Apple do anything to drive more signups or if people like me are just like fuck off ESPN+ and the NFL for not letting me watch?

They are having technical difficulties but when it works, it’s pretty cool. The replay on that touchdown was sweet

That's my feeling. I'm not buying this shit to watch the game. I have every channel possible and pay Verizon a lot of money. I should be able to watch this.

It is rare that a game is only on ESPN+. But even Thursday night football is Amazon only. Some sporting events are going streaming only.

It’s kind of doing its job, my 7 year old who’s not really into sports has been watching and loves it. They explain rules and whatnot, he thinks it’s cool. I have the real game on in the kitchen.

My wife has Amazon so I can see those. This Apple TV and ESPN+ nonsense annoys me.

Ridder animated is still cartoonishly bad. Is Arthur Smith earning cash on the side pounding the unders on Atl passing yards in each game? With London, Pitts and Robinson he’d have a potent passing offense if someone could actually throw the ball to them.

Of course people are going to be like “fuck off.” But so? It’s NFL football. We’re frequently like “fuck off” at them while watching. They suck. But we watch, yeah?

IDK if I would watch a whole game that was like this, but the Toy Stroy gimmick is funny as hell. Just perfect absurd comedy. The Claw spotting the ball, Mr. Speak and Say spelling out DUUUVALLLL. Slinky Dog as the chains.

Seconded. I dunno that they could come up
with a whole bunch of new gimmicks on the regular, but the creative incorporation of Andy’s room and toys is amuses the heck out of.

Also, maybe it’s because I don’t play
video games and don’t have kids so don’t watch a lot of today’s animation, so the general reaction of “It’s glitchy,” is wild for me. Seems great to me, but maybe I wouldn’t feel that way if advanced computer animation was a more regular part of my life?

Shoulda gone with static electricity on the carpet instead of flames for the TD run. Missed opportunity.

I thought it became a little repetitive - after a series, you kind of get it. Hockey translates a little better than football to this kind of thing. Baseball would be better than both, I think.
