Getting rid of MM is something every clipp fan has dreamed of for the last 3 years. My car is fueled up to drive him to the airport.

I suspect your tank will be full for Brogdon as well if this trade goes down. Very good player but very flawed.

MM is one of my least favorite Celtics players ever. I couldn’t stand watching him play basketball and he seemed like kind of a jackass in the locker room/off the court as well

I think that's unfair and clouded by the way the season ended with his injury. He fit his role in Boston without complaints and was a key piece to a team that was one win away from an NBA Finals appearance.

I'm struggling to find a downside of this trade for the Celtics; more rest for TL and Al, a guy who knows he needs to play well and stay healthy to get another big contract, more playing time for White... I like it.

Word.

I understand why folks are excited about KP, but I'm shocked at how much recency bias we're showing on Brogdon. Brogdon hit a lot of buckets for this team, and I don't love the idea of giving Pritchard any more minutes than we have to.

That said, I'm in.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat. Brogdon was a great fit for this team and played really well, but he is somewhat redundant with the emergence of DWhite. This feels like a really great use of assets and a really nice fit for this roster with KP.

Bought out yes, why would he go to LAC with Brogdon there?
I know it won't happen, but I think he'd be so good for this team in terms of providing a stabilizing presence. Not big minutes or a gamechanger or anything like that, just someone who could come in and get the team to take a fucking breath sometimes when the offense stops functioning.

I think Chris Paul just gets bought out and then goes to LAC
I assume you mean cut? why buy him out of a contract that isn't fully guaranteed.
However... I really don't think that's happening, WAS will either trade him or guarantee the last $5M and try to trade him once injuries hit in-season.

Also, LAC couldn't sign a buyout, I believe the new buyout restriction for apron teams starts this season.

Brogdon was good for Boston last season, Porzingis would be an upgrade while addressing frontcourt depth.

Derrick White had a massive season last year, is criminally underrated, and should get more PG minutes. Point Tatum is happening more & more. Brogdon was a luxury moving forward. Keep Pritchard for PG depth.

Brad continues to be opportunistic & positively adjusts the roster. If he can unload DG also, that would be great.

Sign Brown & try to get something out of a Grant S&T, then Brad can head to the Cape for the summer

Keith Smith saying that it appears likely to happen, but they have to work through:

1. Finalizing salary match (Celtics for example need to send out at least Gallo to match, LAC would have to add someone like Coffey, but that involves both those teams adding salary, so deal might expand).
2. Nailing down exact pick haul to WAS
3. Is KP going to get extended as part of the deal, if so at what number

I’m not sure I want KP in Boston on a long-term basis, but then again, as with the Jaylen supermax, maybe it makes sense to get him under contract and then trade him again if necessary (as opposed to a one year deal where he could leave next offseason for no return).

This smells kind of like the "CP3 has been waived by Phoenix" reports that preceded him getting traded. I wonder if Zinger has "indicated" that he'd opt in, but hasn't actually opted in. So now that he might be traded, he says "Just to be clear, I'm going to need a little something beyond a one-year deal if you want me to opt-in. Otherwise, I'll just opt out and blow up your deal."

Then they watched Brogdon miss so many layups and call his own number far too often
Yes and get completely used on defense. He also called the team 'tight' after Game 7 which may not have gone down well.
If Zinger can just stay on the court he's a huge asset. And the Knicks revenge aspect is sweet.

Maybe, but rumours all week were he was gonna opt in because they didn't see a deal they liked.

I think it's more likely the Celtics trying to lock him in, giving them more future clarity

6 months ago not one Celtics fan would trade Brogdon for Porzingis.
Forget 6 months ago, it was less than 6 weeks ago that he shot over 50% from 3 in the series against Philly. Right up until he hurt his arm in game 1 against Miami, he had hit 95% of his ceiling with Boston. The circumstances that have made Brogdon disposable aren't really anything to do with him, necessarily. It's about 50% Derrick White taking a big step forward this year and looking like he might actually have some growth as a player left, and 50% TL/Horford looking like a pretty shaky center rotation for future playoff runs, due to age/injury.

If this move happens, it feels like we'd essentially be swapping out Brogdon/Grant/Kornet for Pritchard/Galinari/Porzingis. I'd be ok with that.

Gallo would likely have to be part of the deal to make salaries work.

100% correct. Brogdon 44.4% from 3 is surprisingly forgotten. He was also OK-ish on defense before being injured.

Clipper Daryl will be much happier with Brogdon instead of MaMo

@nighthob would be happy. Sean Deveney says the Celtics are using Grant as bait to get into the top 20 to take OMP
You're mis-reading that. Two separate thought processes..
1. Looking to S&T Grant
2. Looking to get into the top 20 to draft a replacement.

Grant is a free agent, he can't be traded for a draft pick, and no team is drafting a player for you in the hopes that in a couple weeks a RFA agrees to a S&T.

6 weeks ago I'd have done it in a heartbeat. Brogdon was good this year... Porzingis was a lot better, a LOT.

As to what we'd be doing....
My guess is Brogdon and Gallo are out for Porzingis, Grant is gone, maybe a cheapish player comes back in a S&T (he's BYC so not all of the new salary counts), and maybe they can staple Pritchard to a 2nd or 2 and get a late 1st.

I don't think either Grant or Pritchard is back next year, because they won't want to pay them 2nd deal money.

Meh, I’m not sure how sustainable that 3P% is year to year, and his defense fell off a cliff long before he hurt his elbow. He was constantly hunted during the playoffs and could not stay in front of his man to save his life. I don’t see that improving. I was also underwhelmed with his passing and play making ability.

The stories about the turmoil when MM and his brother the other MM were on the Suns at the same time apparently are legendary.

He was fine getting switched on to bigger players, and held his own on the block BUT really struggled with quick guards (which always looks bad). Most defensive metrics suck but FWIW his DBPM was +.6 & his DWS was a +2.2 (two of his best scores over his career)

Just think folks are going a little overboard torching Brogdon.

He did win 6th Man of the Year. Independently, people around the League thought he was pretty good.

I'm very good friends with somebody that was involved in the Morris Twins' first agency (Pooh was their first agent). They were a fukn nightmare, smashed up hotel rooms were the norm

My good buddy lives in PHX and is a massive Suns fan. He knows a decent amount of season ticket holders and a Suns employee or two…

Let’s just say that no one involved with the Suns (fans, front office, coaches) enjoyed the Morii twin experience much

I think it's kind of weird that last season the big talking point was that the Celtics needed another guard and ball-handler to make things happen for them in the playoffs after the offense stalled against Golden State...then we got Brogdan, he played well, but now we HAVE to get rid of a guard?

I like it, Brogdon's D was definitely a big weak link and hard to assume the same 3 PT% next season.

Porzingis has the same general knee issue as Timelord... meniscus tear, clean up surgery, some degree of osteoarthritis.

The Celtics obviously will have more details that that, but he played well last season and is on a short term deal so seems likely worth the risk to me.

The Clippers are expected to trade No. 30 in Thursday's NBA Draft to the Wizards as part of this three-team trade, sources said. Washington nets a first-rounder for aiding Porzingis opt in-and-trade.

ESPN Sources: The Celtics are working on a trade to acquire the Wizards’ Kristaps Porzingis in a three-team deal that sends Malcolm Brogdon to Clippers. LA would be sending Marcus Morris, Amir Coffey and 30th pick to Washington. Sides still have more work to do on an agreement.

Porzingis would opt-in to his $36M for 2023-2024 to make potential trade happen, but there are still outstanding issues to be completed before a deal can be reached. Boston’s Danilo Gallinari would be in deal to Wizards too, sources said.

We don’t HAVE to get rid of a guard, it’s just a question of resource allocation. White’s emergence makes Brogdon expendable, it’s pretty much that simple.

The deal is unquestionably a risk if White takes a step back next season or if Porzingis gets hurt, but being overly conservative and just running back the same exact team (or close to it) has its own drawbacks.

This is pretty fair, but a couple of things have changed, in no particular order:

-White was pretty crummy (offensively) in the 2022 playoffs, to the point where teams were daring him to shoot from outside and he just couldn't. He was excellent all year and into the playoffs in 2023, showing he's capable of playing the whole game at point.
-Tatum upped his ball handling and passing, showing he's capable being a point forward from time to time.
-Rob Williams came back from injury, but didn't look nearly as good as he did before his injury last March.
-Al Horford aged another year.

These factors have combined to change the need from a ball-handling guard to another legit big man. I'm ok with the logic.

Part of that response was that I think @ElUno20 will be frustrated with what many here learned which is that Brogdon isn't a stout defender.

I have no problem with the player and the Cs running it back with him. I like swapping his skill-set for Porzingis' better.

I am not convinced that this means the end of Grant in Boston. He still needs to find someone to pay him and BOS could still match and trade him at the deadline
