Matthews will have nightmares about that shift forever if they lose Saturday. He probably should have scored the winner right before he just fell over.

He didn’t sell shit. His shoulder pad hit him in the chin and that hurts like hell. It’s a missed call but that’s a hard one for the ref to call, especially because he’s going to be in a tough spot to see that clearly. You get hit in the face by something hard and you’re naturally going to react that way. That’s a reaction, not a dive.

Dreger retweeted another one of Killorn on Matthews’ jersey for, like 5 seconds.

I think Leaf’s fans just have to accept that refs don’t call playoff games by the book. Just about every fan base gets frustrated by it when it happens to them, but only Leafs fans escalate it to a conspiracy to deny them a playoff series win.

So far, the players aren’t biting, at least (Tavares gave a no comment when asked about the refs, and Matthews just talked about how they have to “put their balls on the line”).

Good catch, I didn't notice it but you are correct that his shoulder pad comes up and hits him.

That one’s ridiculous too (saw it on Insta). Sure you can call it but then you’re calling a penalty on every dman every 3 minutes. The he e luck was never close to Matthews and had no impact on him getting from a non-scoring to a scoring spot. He was just lightly roving around the zone to find open space.

I have a fair bit of business up in Toronto and all these otherwise rational guys who spend like $20k per year on Leafs tix lose their mind over this stuff. There has been nothing more entertaining than making little comments to them constantly for the last 2 years about how the league only wants big teams to win the cup, favors the strong hockey markets, tries to reward the best fans, etc etc.

I'm shocked that you'd do such a thing. ;)

Three straight blown leads for the Caps, including two in OT (plus a blown 3-0 lead in G5). This is a team that just does not know how to finish. Twelve OT losses in the regular season (most in the East) and two more in the playoffs. This last one looked like they were constitutionally incapable of clearing the defensive zone. Another frustrating, underperforming season.

agreed here. I flat out don’t want that called. Matthews wasn’t involved in the play really and it didn’t stop the leafs from accomplishing anything they were trying to do. We don’t want to watch hockey where that is a penalty.

Honest question: other than Wilson, who on the Caps is so noxious? Backstrom, Oshie, Mantha, Carlson don't have any particular reputations for being assholes?
Wilson, Oshie, and Ovechkin are enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd be happy to have any of them on the B's, but since they aren't they're easy to hate.

I could see Ovechkin though personally I have nothing against him but Oshie?
Would love him if he was a Bruin, but he's an annoying, smug pest. Not a dirty player, but a real pain in the ass.

EDIT: I mean I hated Thomas Vanek, but not because he was a dirty player -- just the opposite, really.

You can actually sense the pessimism in this Toronto crowd. Every time Tampa enters the zone, the groan in unison.
