Tom has one last pay day coming, and now he's got a benchmark how much his back-up is worth.
Evidently, according to Ron Borges.

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/patriots/2018/02/borges_tom_brady_wants_to_get_paid_like_jimmy_g_or_he_ll_skip_otas

Is it threadworthy? Yes, especially the noise about Brady skipping OTAs. But it’s late and I’m tired and it’s Borges, and I’m not starting a thread until it see this pop up elsewhere. If the bosses would like to break this out, I am fine with that.

Apparently Borges was totally scammed by a guy. Borges accidentally tweeted his number. So a guy texted him as Don Yee and fed him the story and he ran with it.

I’d pay a lot of American dollars to see the look on Borges’ face once he realized he’d been scammed. Clown.

The "Kirk and Callahan" twitter account sent out some of the text exchanges between RB and the guy pretending to be Yee.

Is Borges that obtuse to believe that a text from a random # is actually from Don Yee? It is bad enough that he believed it, but what makes it worse is the fact that Borges tweeted his phone # accidentally. That alone should have made him just a weeee bit skeptical.

You’re being a little unfair to Borges. They also talked on the phone. [emoji2]

Couldn’t have happpend to a bigger asshole. How Borges is still hanging around the Boston Sports media scene is beyond me. I’d like to think this would be the end of him but he’s like a cockroach.

This guy even called Borges and talked to him. Told him it was ok to run the story. This is amazing. And, yes, Minihane is burying Borges and taking a huge victory lap.

Integrity died a long time ago in sports and sports writing. Now it’s about attention not quality.

Gee, it's fucking shocking that a sportswriter already once fired for plagiarism doesn't have the strictest standards when it comes to his sources.

From now on here on SoSH, Borges gets the Eric Wilbur treatment: there is to be no more linking of his articles or quoting from him in any way. I will remove all future posts that do so.

What's also funny is that the guy had been texting Borges for the past 3 weeks or so. He threw in some details about Brady's thumb (had an infection and needed to wear the glove at all times) and all Borges could think/ask about was making sure Brady was providing a letter on behalf of Ty Law for the HOF.

Here
I hope the guy playing Don Yee used the City Wok voice to prove his validity to Borges.

He also used the word “sources,” as in plural. So he probably lied about that.

I agree not linking his shit, but please, I beg of you, this deserves it's own thread. At 8:00, Minihane did the full breakdown of the takedown, if you will. Read every text between "Yee" and Borges going back to January 20th (they talked about Tom's thumb, Ty Law's HOF candidacy, etc.). Nick from Boston is a "Minifan," and Kirk, I believe, was behind the actual tweets about Brady skipping the offseason. Kirk was pissed about something Borges said on a show on EEI on Mustard and Johnson. This shit is great. Couldn't happen to a bigger stooge.

Wait so Minehane orchestrated this? Borges is a moron and an asshole but Minehane being behind it sort of ruins it a bit for me.

I don't think he is taking credit for orchestrating it but he is certainly taking credit, and victory laps, for inspiring it.

Yes...how does Minihane have all the texts?
The guy who did it sent them to the show, he also called in this morning. They also played sound of a Yee interview and then the guy that called in. They couldn't have sounded much less alike.

He also called T&R after that as well. What a bozo Borges is, how do you not even try to second source that or just not run with it from an unverified phone number?

I remember the good old days when reporters and editors had integrity and would verify stories from a second source. Good times, those old days.

I get that he deserves it and all, but this is still the kind of thing that makes me embarrassed on the other person's behalf. Those texts are so cringey. What a fool.

In the now pulled article it did say according to sources. So he he must have had another right?
If he was a decent reporter then yes you would assume he had at least one more source since he used the plural.
Since he isn't we have to assume he is lying.

around the way
Only in Boston can a week that started with a lost Super Bowl end up this good. Between McDaniels doing the Lucy football routine to the Colts and Borges' public colonoscopy this morning, I feel about 300% better than Sunday night. If only news came out about Tomase coming down with an acute case of firecrabs...

Borges has had this coming for a long time.

Yeah, I don't think he had started it, but certainly is running with it now.

Kirk was mad at Borges because of some things he said a few weeks ago. Mustard & Johnson had Borges on and they were discussing Kirk's report about Brady and his thumb. Borges said, "how would he know? I bet he doesn't even know the directions to Gillette" or something like that.

Kirk, as tough as he tries to appear, is extremely thin skinned and doesn't take criticism too well. But Borges is so lousy it's hard not to take some joy in this during an otherwise rough sports week (for the Pats at least)

PFT kicking ass, so now this is national.

I only wish this broke yesterday afternoon with Felger and Mazz giving him a platform. Could have given all three a Viking funeral.
For once some of the comments are good:

"ESPN confirms the report with 11 of 12 sources."

"He is basically Kent from Real Genius; if you put a little receiver in his braces he will believe anything you say."

On a day when he could have had written about impact news figures Malcolm Butler or Josh McDaniels or other Patriots off-season stories such as the upcoming draft or pending free agents, Ron Borges took a text conversation from a fake Don Yee who called Borges "old friend," and is obviously false. This genius move follows prior bad reporting such as plagiarism, which will not help any writer any time soon.

This makes me wonder how often we read stories with sources but it is really just one
If someone texts you and calls you, is that two separate sources? What if you hear something, then tell it to yourself?
