By the way, the Nap-POLE-lee gaffe doesn't come close to the worst butchering of athlete names in the history of White House visits by sports teams, whether from Boston or elsewhere. That honor goes to Reagan with the '84 Celtics, and it will never be eclipsed. Seems the video is nowhere to be found, but Bob Lobel must have replayed the clip a hundred times on various Sports Spotlights on WBZ. From the official transcript:

We've seen that winning tradition carried forth again and again down through the years by some of the greatest heroes in basketball history: Cousey [sic], Sharman, Ramsey, Russell, Sam and Casey [sic] Jones, Heinsohn, Havlicek, Cowens, and White. I may have mispronounced some of those names in there -- I hope not.

The names in bold were uttered as "HINE-shone, HAZZ-lick, KUV-inns". The Most Powerful Man in the Free World looked and sounded like a sleep-deprived and dyslexic teenager struggling with a Dick & Jane book, laboring over each syllable. It was both cringe-worthy and hilarious.

NESN has the whole ceremony up on YouTube. It looks like they uploaded two hours worth of NESN stuff from the production truck, including commercials, infomercials, and Sports Today. So jump to around the 1:19:00 mark.

Exactly.  And for those that felt they were too cool to wear a tie?  I'd be surprised to hear that Dr. Charles didn't send out a memo (or maybe he did and a few chose to ignore it)...

I would think it's the latter. I'm looking at the pictures of the Heat and Ravens and they are all wearing suits with ties.

I'm sure they will, likely an edited version as part of Sports Today.

Here's another YouTube version, but it's abbreviated (no closing remarks or Papi selfie):

Reminds me of when a friend was able to get a celebrity invited to a WH dinner and said celeb turned it down.  My friend: "Seriously?!?"  Celeb: "Well, you know how those WH dinners are..." Friend: "No.  I don't know as I've never been invited to one and I never will."

Hey, don't sell Kerry's "Manny Or-tezz" short!

I wonder what they think of Dell. If she's accepted into the WAGs club.

Great pics, RSN. I assume you didn't get stuck in the Uecker seats?

No, I got there early. I'd been to the two previous ones and never got access inside until this year. They really put on a nice event.

What was the more unlikely scenario: The thought six years ago that Daniel Nava would ever shake hands with the President of the United States? Or the thought ten years ago that Tiger Woods would go a decade without another Masters win?

At least Clay ISN'T wearing jeans.  Although with the light blue kicking I think he'd look less hipster/DB-ish if he WERE wearing jeans.

Peavy looks the most like Secret Service.

Which makes sense, because the guy standing in front of him looks like John Malkovich in "Line of Fire".

No, it's not. Generally, anything at the White House requires advance invitation where they get your SSN, DOB, address, etc. so they can make sure you don't represent any threat.
Way too late, but for the sake of information that nobody really cares about -- West Wing appointments do not intersect in any way with the public entrance and tours, which are in the East Wing. Separate entrance location, separate rules, etc.

Pedroia looked like the substitute teacher who wouldn't even have to say a single word before the class would be running around like maniacs for an hour pretending like he wasn't even there.

If it was worked out ahead of time and he was paid for it then it actually kind of offends me a little bit. Maybe more than a little bit.
It's also illegal to use the seal of the president (visible in the background) in any type of advertising but that's probably splitting hairs.
Yes, I am grumpy. Why do you ask.

These pictures are fantastic--just catching up with the event. Thanks RSN and Marc. Big Papi and Xander clean up the best but wow, stars and stripes in a jacket looks like a 4th of July gag.

Well, I'm not the least bit grumpy, but I am very turned off by Ortiz turning that moment into a commercial deal, unless the $ is going to The Jimmy Fund or equivalent.
