It appears the Red Sox are going to have a standard schedule for uniforms next season. According to Cora:

HOME

Monday-Thursday, Sunday: all white
Friday: red tops
Saturday: City Connect (yellow)

Monday-Thursday, Saturday-Sunday: all grey
Friday: blue tops

Cora said the change was in part inspired by seeing the Rangers in the World Series, and the skipper said he reached out to clubhouse manager Tom McLaughlin to talk about the kits.

Can someone please explain in small words what this means:

Saving the red/blue tops for Fridays is going to mean way less of them. They used to be Friday jerseys in the 2010s, but have been a lot more common in recent years.

The number of City Connect days will be similar but much more regularly spaced, and we're going to get more classic whites and greys, which sounds great to me.

Can someone please explain in small words what this means:
He liked the white uniforms the Rangers had and called the equipment manager of the Red Sox and said we need to have a better uniform structure. No more arbitrary taking the yellow uniforms out because they're in a slump. What they did differently is establish something concrete about the yellow jerseys only being worn at home on Saturdays.

Fridays have always been red at home and navy on the road. They just added in a day for the yellow jerseys.

That's the way they started. In recent years, there's not been a whole lot of rhyme or reason to the uniform color choices.

A+ on the explanation, B- on using small words. Thanks.

I don't like the red or blue tops, so whatever causes them to be worn less works for me.

I had heard it was the starting pitcher's choice. But I don't know if that's true or what happens when you go with an opener. Maybe they just get to pick the socks.

As someone who lives over 500 miles from Fenway, I get to home games about once a year. Those games are almost exclusively on Saturdays. I am now relegated to clown shows.

Get off of my lawn and all of that stuff, but I just want to see my team in their uniform.

I don't like the yellows at all. Wear them marathon weekend if they must the stuff them into the back of the closet the rest of the year. Or if they really need a yellow and baby blue uniform keep them in Sox uniform format (basically what the Braves wore when they were the Bees for a few years in the late 30s). I guess my real problem with them is they're lazy and kind of suck.

This is still a win. The Sox have mediocre alternates and they wore them more than half the time last year. At least this cuts the frequency. It's a shame it's the home whites that end up losing two days a week though. Those are basically perfect.

Also, get off my lawn.

According to Paul Lukas over at UniWatch, the Sox were only supposed to wear their City Connect (yellow) jerseys for three years and get new ones.

Last year was their third year.

But since not all MLB teams have CC unis (and they were also supposed to have those uniforms by the 2023 season) the original CC togs have another year added to them.

So in two years we might all be begging for the yellow uniforms to come back. BTW those things grew on me. I like them.

AND we should be thankful that MLB isn’t like the NBA and are debuting new uniforms every year. Some of those designs are god awful.

Now if we could only do something about the sleeve ads.

You see, this is why Cora is such a great manager. This move alone should be worth five or six wins next year. Bloom was just never decisive about stuff like this. It's no wonder there are clamors within the organization for Cora's shadow control of baseball ops.

Apropos of nothing but if the Celtics are going to keep rolling out these new (mostly awful) jerseys they should buy some designs off that guy who was doing a New Jersey design for every win. Some of those lien the T inspired ones were fantastic.

I’m just glad they’re formalizing wearing the whites (and grays) more again. The red ones used to be a Friday (and before that, Sunday) thing, but in the last few years they’ve been happening far too often. Feels like between those and the CC ones they were wearing the white ones like once a week.

This news makes me confident that the 2024 Red Sox will be led by a vastly more confident leadership team and will produce much better results!

I follow that guy on Twitter and I agree, his stuff is excellent work. He has a way of working the most minuscule of Boston into a design that looks awesome.

The T jersey was great.

As little of the City Connect uniforms as possible is good by me.

Bring back the 1975 era red hats and helmets permanently. Yellow jerseys once a year.

Have you guys seen how much City Connect yellow jerseys, t-shirts, hats and hooded sweatshirts are in the stands for each home game? The market has spoken.
I would assume people who want a yellow and blue Sox shirt/jersey would buy it regardless of how often they wear them

I’m also inclined to think that any new/novelty color combo would sell pretty well at first. And these abominations stand out in the crowd because of how bright they are

they do certainly seem to sell a lot of that stuff and I really have no idea why other than people want the newest look. I cant imagine the actual colors and design is especially appealing for the average person who buys it.

Yes! I've been saying for years that the '75 hats should be worn at home and the all blue hats on the road.
To each his own. I hated those 1975 hats (even though that's that first year I started following them every day) and I've grown to love the yellow (probably because my kids love them and because they win in them so much).

As horrible as I find the City Connect uniforms, they’ve gradually become less so compared to the absurd monstrosities other teams have revealed in their wake. (Black baseball pants? What is this, 1991 Babe Ruth league?? Yikes.) Exceptions being the Twins, Brewers and Angels. Those CC unis are absolutely fantastic.

If it were up to me, the home whites would remain the same because they’re perfect, only I’d change the undershirt sleeves back to blue instead of the red the Henry regime changed them to. The road unis would be the prison yard 80s ones with the blue font, basic block lettering and no names on the back. Red “B” on the hat, red socks, all else blue. The 1975 double knits would replace the City Connect unis at home on Saturdays. The red and blue alternate jerseys would never be seen again outside of Ft. Myers.

One last thought: as much as I hate the Yankees, I very much appreciate that they’ve resisted the whole City Connect clown show.

AFAIK, none of the teams are exempt from this, the MFY just haven't had their turn yet. Personally, I'm hoping for a hideous shade of red with green caps leaving these ass clowns looking like Big Apples.

I'd add Arizona and Texas to the list of pretty cool ones, too. Something about the off-white and red lettering just looks really sharp, IMO.

The Nationals are almost cool but they should've gone with black instead of blue-gray to really make the pink cherry blossoms pop.

Yes. They are all over. They are very popular. Especially with kids.

I'm definitely not a kid, but they're popular with me too. It's okay for uniforms to have colors on them, really. I think this thread might have the highest boomer quotient in the history of sosh.

I'm officially an old grouch because I'm glad they'll have a regular uniform rotation going forward. They did not wear either the home whites or the road greys enough in recent years and I hated that.

Now get a haircut and a job, hippie.
