I'll be pretty disappointed if Napoli and Koji aren't moved for something.  I can't think of a reason to not make those moves.  Obviously the large moves can be debated and sometimes the best move is the one you don't make.  But anything for Napoli and Koji would be nice.  I don't see the downside.

Farrell said on WEEI to not expect any major deals, but both Pablo and Hanley are out of the lineup tonight with supposed injuries. (Sandoval - forearm, Hanley - shin)

Well, both did get hit by baseballs last night.

Jason Mastrodonato says he would be shocked if De Aza isn't traded.

On the other hand, with Betts on the DL, the team is pretty thin on outfielders at the moment.  De Aza seems more likely to be a waiver trade candidate in a coupe weeks.

Return would be south of what we got for Peavey, right?
I don't see any upside to playing the guy, taking at bats away from people that need them at the ML level.

I'm not saying this is the way to go, but if they want to give Hanley a relatively pressure-free two months to become some degree of serviceable in left field, why have DeAza in the mix?

Napoli for sure could be moved in August. With his money, he would certainly clear waivers.
Yeah. No need to focus on Napoli today. There's another 30 days to make that trade. He's only moved today if he's part of another, larger deal

I'm pretty sure this team is going to want a closer next year.

Anyone got a site that summarizes the deals that have been made already?

They still need a 4th OF for days off and whatnot.  If that's not De Aza right now, who is it?

That of course doesn't rule out getting a 4th OF from somewhere else, but until that happens, De Aza isn't exactly expendable.

And it's impossible to find closers these days?  Concerns over who closes games in 2016 shouldn't be the reason to hold on to Koji if there's a deal to be made.

Also, B-Ref has a list of trades on their front page.  Doesn't appear to be up to the second, however.

Lol. And that's why he is not a GM

If they get real value, sure. But there is no need to trade him just to trade him. Sure they can find another closer next year. But with a terrible bullpen this year, dumping your best without getting something very good in return makes no sense.

Not news, but the MLB Network guys are talking fWAR specifically. No surprise, Harold Reynolds has no idea what they are talking about.

So, all the experts who rate the Red Sox as having a top 3 minor league system don't know what they are talking about but Bowden does? What a tool.

Oh, sure, if there's a good deal, you make it, but it's not like keeping him would be a bad thing.

And thanks. Is it my imagination or is there a lot of talent heading from the NL to the AL?

Its strong but the strength is really strong with players in A ball.

Manuel Margot, Sam Travis, Brian Jonson and Henry Owens all say hello. The top two prospects are in A-ball, but the top 10 has some high minors players.

No, he's right.

The Sox' system is only deep and good below AA, but none of those kids are close enough to the Show that they actually have significant trade value.

ALL the Sox chips except for Owens and Margot have played for the Sox this year or are out all season. In several cases, they've not only been playing for the Sox, but anchoring the team instead of the high-priced underperforming vets.

No, he's wrong. The Sox have three top 50 prospects in AA or higher. Margot, Owens and Johnson is a solid trio of near major league ready talent. Pairing one or two of them with a high ceiling low minors player would be tough for any other team to beat if the Sox are willing to go that route.

In all fairness having a highly ranked system as a whole and having the individual piece types (high ceiling starters, power bat prospects, and generally guys projected to be near future plug ins) that can push the needle on big trade possibilities isn't always the same thing.

It's pretty much a given Betts/X won't be going anywhere, plus Moncada given the investment we made. If getting the cost controlled ace was a simple matter of stacking lower level lottery tickets behind Owens that deal would have already got done long before now.

Above-average left handed hitter?  Against RHP maybe:  http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=deazaal01&year=2015&t=b

He's abysmal against LHP.  He's an above-average platoon outfielder at best.

I strongly suspect that's what he meant. And a strong-side platoon OF who's defensively solid in both corners and could cover CF in a pinch is a guy who could help a contender. Obviously we're not going to get much for him, but we might get something more suited to our 2016 needs (i.e. a bullpen arm).

Hey, the phone never rang. We probably don't have anybody who's wanted.  They know we're not trading our young guys.

I get it though; who on the 25 man roster that is trade available does another team want and willing to deal for?  Not much.  No one is taking fat contracts off our hands.  We surely weren't in the market to "buy".  The last two weeks took care of that.  So-o-o-o, nothing to see here, move on.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry. Probably for the best though. Not sure what they can do though. They don't have anybody they can get rid of and that people actually want for acceptable value. Tells you all you need to know about this year.
