I have a 77" CX and I'm very happy with it. Some of the best advice I got was to not run all the test patterns out there and to sit back and enjoy the screen. Once you see an issue you can't unsee it and your eye keeps looking for it. No panel is perfect, so don't go looking for trouble.
For 5 years I was responsible of every defect that left our factory floor, when I started looking for consumer TVs it was like OMG THESE ARE ALL HORRIBLE HOW DID THEY LEAVE THE BOE FACTORY. My wife was like these are GORGEOUS. Yep, once you know what to look for it's so hard to ignore.

I'm in the market for a new TV and seems a few people here have the LG CX. I am leaning towards that, and it seems to be the most highly rated TV. That said, the obvious issue is burn-in. I'm trying to gauge how likely of an issue this is to be (I generally vary my content---but for an issue like this, it's quite annoying pretty much every channel now keeps their logo in the corner of the screen all the time). I feel like I see this maybe being discussed as more of a huge concern (likely even from non-CX owners) than it actually is in practice.

Also wading through AVS Forums, I see a few other issues being discussed (which is the case with every TV discussed over there). I saw some comment that the 65" models are more problematic than other sizes but not sure how accurate that is. For obvious reasons, I would rather not deal with exchanges and the 'panel lottery' that often gets discussed over there. I know there's risk with any brand/model so just wondering if anyone's impression is that these are any more problematic than other sets.

Regarding the 'darkness' of this set and OLEDs generally, I don't think I'll particularly mind that as I find many TVs these days overly bright (to the point they strain the eyes).

Basically, LG CX owners--are you happy with your purchase? And what gave you comfort in buying in spite of burn-in concerns?
If you're concerned about burn in, if you purchase the TV at Best Buy and get their Geek Squad extended warranty, it is the only one that will cover burn in on OLED. Every other warranty out there considers burn in as wear and tear. Extended warranties are of questionable value for some folks, but if you want to protect your purchase, there probably isn't a better option. From what I understand, if your OLED dies during the extended warranty period, Best Buy will usually just credit you the purchase price toward a new model TV (assuming your model is no longer in production).

Would it be ridiculous to put the CX 55" on top of Ye Old Cambridge SoundWorks Center Channel? It seems pretty sturdy, and the CX I think is only 50 pounds.

The speaker right now just barely doesn't block the screen if I don't slouch badly, but the CX is the same physical size as my current TV, but without the bezel now all screen, and with a somewhat shorter stand. And I really don't have anywhere else to put the speaker. Wall mounting's really not an option.

I looked for a riser online but can't find one with good dimensions.
This worked for me and I have a 55" TV View: https://smile.amazon.com/Convenience-Concepts-Designs2Go-Monitor-Espresso/dp/B07RY9DM53?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1

I've got a C8 and love it. However, we've been having issues lately with YouTube TV. When we try to start up, it just sits there and clocks and never loads. Netflix, Hulu, Disney, etc. all work fine so it's not an internet issue. We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, ensuring all of the TV settings are correct. Only thing left to try is factory reset, which I am reluctant to do because of all the work that goes into that. We have a Fire stick as a workaround right now, but was wondering if anyone else with an LG has had the same issue...

Is that a 5.1 setup or a 2.1? If it's a 2.1 I'd once again here recommend a Zvox soundbase if you want to replace it. One of the lead designer of most of these for Cambridge Soundworks, after Creative bought Cambridge Soundworks left to be the head designer for Zvox and the sound base's are great for what you want. The AccuVoice and Soundbar's not nearly as good (they are great in their categories) but nothing is because of the form factor, but the Soundbases rule. I have the SB 500 I think and it is amazing.

Shot in the dark as I don't have this TV or problem, but in researching TVs, I did see a post somewhere (not sure if even about this TV) that said if you are casting from your phone to TV, both the phone and TV need to be signed into the same YouTube account. Not sure if you're casting from phone so this may not be applicable.

He is having issue with YouTube TV which is different from YouTube. One does not cast with YTTV.

Has YTTV ever worked correctly? Have you tried pulling the plug on the TV, waiting a minute and then plugging it back in?

We have a Samsung and there’s no way to reboot a TV without pulling the plug. So stupid. We’ve had rare instances where an app would get wedged and the only recourse is to reboot. I gave up and am using a Fire Stick instead. At least the Fire Stick has the ability to reboot via the menu.

I have a full 5.1 setup that I got in, like, 2000 from Cambridge. In our last apartment, where this setup was more prominent, my wife talked me into getting a smaller center channel that fits down below on top of my receiver (which is the newest part of my setup, Onkyo TX-NR646). So my plan is to use that newer center channel to go finally go to 6.1. Everything else still sounds good so I've never felt the need to upgrade. But I'll keep your tip in mind if I do.

The plan was for us to just build ourselves a behind-the-couch shelf but no one wants to go to Home Depot right now and it's too cold out to stain it anyway. So technically I've been at 2.1 since we moved in August, but I've gotten less fussy about A/V as I've aged, surprisingly.

You'd actually be using a 3.1 setup if you have a FR, FL, Center, and sub. I used to have a pretty substantial floor standing Boston Acoustics setup from around 20 years ago before I got married and moved into a place that didn't have space for it. I ended up replacing the speakers with Axiom audio wall hanging ones while keeping the sub and using it as a side table. They're not super cheap, but they're easy to hang on a wall, sound good, and don't require any special furniture.

On-wall Speakers | Axiom Audio

I got a new Marantz NR1711 to drive them when I got the 4k TV a couple months ago. It's Marantz's smaller, cheaper receiver, but plenty powerful enough to drive these on-wall speakers.

No shit, we're not making this up!

Seriously though, you've got a good number of us who loved plasma's hated LCD's and have made the switch and could be happier. They're really great TV's as long as the panel doesn't fail.

Ugh I dithered and the price went up $100. Do they do Presidents Day sales for TVs?
Not usually anything substantial for TVs, though some will claim they are having a big sale. I think big President's Day sales are cars and durable appliances.

I think the next big TV sale window will be just in advance of the new 2021 TV models being released, which I think (but am not sure) is April.

Availability varies, but Amex is offering $25 cash back on purchases over $500 for the next few months to some cardholders, and Amazon has a discount offer (20% ?) if you use some Amex reward points to make the purchase there.

Are they even trying to win this game?

edit - wrong thread but let's keep it here :)
LG wins in my house, by the way. I just convinced my dad to get the CX and he's giddy.

Rather than start a new thread, as this seems to be the de facto TV conversation, I had a tech question. About 2 weeks ago, we purchased a 50 inch TCL 5 series. Liked it a lot at the price for what we ask of it- no complaints.

However, beginning about a week ago, when turning on the tv, it takes about 5-10 seconds to "find" the cable box (we have it go to the cable box as the default start up). It says "searching for signal" and "is it on"? But eventually it works, and behaves normally. Strangely, if I turn it off and right back on, it finds it immediately (like it has "warmed up")?

I have tried resetting the cable box, tried a different HDMI cable, tried different HDMI ports, made sure the connections were secure, even reset the TV to factory settings and set it up again. Hasn't fixed it. My last try, to totally rule out it being the cable box, is to move it to a different room and connect it to a different one.

I am guessing that if that doesn't work, something has gone wrong with the TV itself, which seems odd. Anyone notice anything similar or have any thoughts? First world problem and all, but annoying.

Thanks!

Yeah- sorry, I edited my original post, but it was probably while you were responding. I have tried other inputs (though I guess not all of them), and they didn't work either.

Do you have any other HDMI-out device (Apple TV, Roku, game console, whatever)? Can you try making that the default startup and see if it does the same thing? (Ideally, plugging it into the same port as you currently have the cable box on, just to narrow down where the issue is.)

My son who just graduated from college is moving to Charlotte, NC for work and will be living alone. As he knows no one, a good 55"-65" TV is going to be key for him (sports, netflix, etc.). He said something about roku but I don't really know what that implicates (FN: Old man here, 55), but my wife and I are planning on gifting him a really good 55-65" television. Our budget is in the $2,000 or less range (love to get him all he needs for $1,000 or less) and would love to hear what folks might recommend.

Not sure what other information people might need to know here, but I'll ask him if it is deemed relevant by the SOSH denizens.

If he mentioned Roku and not OLED, then he's more concerned with features than picture quality. Get him a $600 TCL from Amazon with Roku built in and he'll be happy.

Forgive my ignorance, but should I buy one of the sound bars and if so, which one? Or this or is that a total waste of money? His apartment is only 700 or so SF, so not sure it's necessary. Options shown on the Amazon site with the TV are:
  • TV with Alto 6 Sound Bar
TV with Alto 6+ Sound Bar
TV with Alto 8i Sound Bar
TV with Alto 9 Sound Bar

I've been a big TCL promoter, and had two of them, but I just had one die that I bought on Black Friday of 2016. I guess maybe 5 years is the life of a $400 TV, but when it's sitting on a wall mount with limited use I would have expected closer to 10 years out of it. My other one is older and still going strong. Could also be bad luck.

Late to the party but the TCL 6 series are great for the price. I’ve had two. The first lasted 4 years before my toddler threw a remote control through the screen. I have latest model now and it’s even better. Even with COVID supply issues, they occasionally go on sale. Best Buy will price match. I found an ad from another store that had it on sale (but out of stock) for $750 and BB price matched it.

I want the LG C1 OLED. I’ve been pining after LG OLEDs for years. The gaming friendly features of the C1 and four HDMI 2.1 ports put it over the top for me. Do I buy now, or is it likely we’ll see big savings for Black Friday? Ideally I’d like to have the TV before Nov 20, but I’d consider waiting until December if I could save a few hundred bucks.

Thank you! I really wanted 77”, but I don’t think I can say no to 65” at that price.

Edit: It turns out I can. 77 ordered. Arrives in November. That gives me a month to get my living room in order.

A combination of your posts, the increasing dead pixel lines in my current plasma, and a few beverages on Saturday night during the Alabama - Texas A&M game inspired me to pull the trigger on the C1 65". I'd love to have the 77 but just can't justify it (my current tv is 60). Got it for $1700 on Amazon.

It arrives Wednesday, I'm very excited.

Very nice! 65 was probably the right move. That’s a fantastic price. The last time I was TV shopping I was choosing between 50 and 55.” I went smaller and regretted it almost immediately. I think I overcompensated.

Edit: Canceled the 77" and went with the 65" at the recommendation of a friend who works in streaming TV. Literally everything I watch is HD streaming content. I have a few Blu Rays (some might even be 4K), but I have digital copies of everything and haven't reached for the discs in years. He told me that HD streaming content looks better upscaled to 65" than 77", so there you go.

My stupid ass just bought a 65-inch C1.

In fairness, I never buy myself anything nice.

Also in fairness, yesterday the movers smashed my already-dogshit 2017 Vizio E-Series to vizereens.

Also, lastly, in fairness, I test and review TVs for a living and I was still using a fucking E-Series with fake HDR as my personal driver.

It’ll be here Thursday!

that's a crazy-good price for an 86-inch TV if all you're looking for is screen real estate, but it doesn't seem to have local dimming and I think that's a deal-breaker for me, especially at that size.

Just got the 65 C1 a few weeks back. It's great, though scary thin. My dog used to ignore the tv, but she is much more interested in baseball on this one. She's been warned...

I got a 55" BX a year or so ago. The top of it is so thin it was difficult to find a hand hold to lift it off the floor onto a mount. And the mount holes are so low, the entire thing needed to be shifted down. I can't imagine how awkward it is to pick up a 65" or 75" version of the same thing.
