deep inside Guido territory
Washington is a nice and dependable WR for TB12. He's been very durable having only missed 2 games in his entire career. He's averaged 45 catches for 695 yards per season since 2006. His career YPC of 15.4 would put his 2nd on the team behind Gronk's 16 so he adds a down the field threat. I thoroughly endorse this signing as it is a good counter to losing LaFell's outside production(or lack thereof) last season and would think this would make Amendola a restructure candidate at the very least if not a goner.

Promise me you'll be able to go on when he gets cut in July.

You don't think he's an upgrade on the outside?
I mean, any one of us is an upgrade over what LaFell gave the Pats last year. I like Washington and hope he sticks but he'll be 33 in August. Guys that age can sometimes lose their fastballs seemingly overnight. Hopefully he gets it done and sticks.

I worry less about his age (there were no signs of drop off last year, I believe) than his ability to click with Tom and the Pats' "read and adjust" offense. That he succeeded in a similar system in Houston is a good sign in that regard, however. In any event, the Pats really missed having a capable outside receiver last season given LaFell's precipitous drop off in effectiveness, and between Hogan (who functions both inside and outside) and Washington, they have the potential for a serious upgrade to what they had in the Denver game. I like this a lot, even with the possibility of it not working.

I've seen speculation Washington is an upgrade / replacement for Amendola, but given his roles and schemes, isn't he more likely a backup/replacement for Dobson?

When I looked I was shocked by his "Catch Rate" (Targets/Catches) (52%). Lefall even while being slightly warm garbage last year was better (57%). While Amendola is 67%.
Gronk is 65% (while being a focus of the D) and Edelman is 67% (again as a focal point of the D).

Hell Dobson (granted in limited action....) is 54%.

Bad Hands? Cant get a window? Bad QBs? I know TB throwing to NE WRs inflates those numbers somewhat.....but 52% is pretty bad.
He has had 1 year in his entire career above 55%.

As some non Patriot examples
Sanu=61%
Cecil Shorts (on the same team last year as Washington) was 56%.
Charles Sims (TB) was 72%
VJackson (TB) was 53%
Scott "Brick Mitts" Chandler was 54%

No other Pat was as bad as Chandler...

Color me unimpressed and no way do I see him as a Dola replacement.
I guess as like the 6th option (Gronk, Edelman, Bennett, Amendola, Lewis) he might be ok in a "well I guess as a defense we need to dedicate SOMEONE to be near him on the field" kind of way.......but I wouldnt want him replacing any of those guys for a significant period of time.
Plus he was never really fast to begin with and hes 33 and all that.

Would love to see another WR signed or drafted who has more to offer.

Agreed that the QBs he had are not nearly TBs caliber. But Cecil Short didnt have as much trouble.
And I agree that the vertical routes have something to do with it. But then again Even Vincent Jackson (who runs alot of Vertical routes and has a pretty crappy (and young) QB) Did better.

He may work out....what do I know....but it did seem like a troubling trend.

Someone's Molars
Seemingly low risk. Has put up decent numbers, especially given that he really has not had a decent QB since leaving Pittsburgh.

Agree with Dr. Tooth - decent numbers, consistent, veteran, low-risk signing.

Got nothing against Washington, except I kept going back to the megathread for news on a Nick Fairley signing, which never happened...
