With 00:59 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Oakland faced first-and-goal at the 12-yard line. The Raiders trailed the Patriots 16-9 and a holding penalty on the previous play wiped outDarren McFadden’s 6-yard, potentially game-tying, touchdown run. Quarterback Derek Carr lined up the Raiders 11 personnel from the shotgun.

In watching this again here multiple times, the thing that I notice and can't figure out is why did Carr throw this ball?  In the best case scenario, the catch is made and the Raiders pick up 3 yards while keeping the clock running.  
 
It seems to me, with 20-20 hindsight and the benefit of the wide shot, that Carr could have held the ball a lot longer (since the Pats were only rushing two against five) in the hopes that someone eventually gets open.  If the rush got to him before a man gets open, it would  be fairly easy to heave the ball over any WR out of the end zone.

I was impressed by Carr overall, but this was one case where his inexperience possibly was his undoing.
