Pretty wild that both teams could be without their top 2-3 running backs in this game... each.

For stars to align don't we have to have Stevenson and Harris back? At this rate, it's Bolden and Taylor and ... nobody else.

Here is what Ivan Fears had to say about Harris and Stevenson.

“We’re on the wait-and-see program," he said. "These protocols take a few days to figure out what they are going to do with them. It’s a big question mark. Definitely a big question mark.”

Fears' words indicate both players are in the concussion protocol. So as of now, only Brandon Bolden and J.J. Taylor are the healthy running backs on the roster. The Patriots do not have any on their practice squad.

New England did open up a spot on the 53-man roster and two on the practice squad Monday, so it does seem like some contingency plans are in place.

“We’ll have things in place," Fears said. "We’re definitely talking about it and ready to move based on what they tell us. We’ll have to wait and see, for sure.”

There are some other roster decisions to make this week. Stidham and Cowart must either be added to the 53-man roster or moved to season ending IR. Winovich and Trent Brown are both eligible to come off IR (Brown has been eligible for a couple of weeks IIRC).

I was told by someone that would certainly be deemed a good source...(he's always been right in the past)

Brown was still limping around the Pats campus mid-week last week and that he wasn't sure he was returning anytime soon (if at all this season).

Anyone else terrified thinking about what Garrett is going to do to Wynn? How are we going to stop him from decapitating Mac?

Logically, yes. But BB has generally done well neutralizing the "one big threat" in terms of pass-rushing. So it'll be the rest of the front 7 decapitating him.

Can we use Harry in like, a Cordarelle Patterson like way where he lines up at tailback?

He's no Nick Chubb, obviously, but D'Ernest Johnson looked fantastic in his one start this year. 22/146/1TD.

Two teams with a lot of overlap. Both teams like to run it and have good defenses. Neither team has great WRs but have tight ends who can catch well. The Browns outside corners and defensive line are good but their safeties and linebackers have struggled. Browns in particular are vulnerable to tight ends in pass coverage. I expect a big day for Hunter Henry and Meyers as they will both get favorable matchups. This game is relatively even on paper and it would be nice for the offense to have a clean game with penalties and turnovers because there isn’t a lot of margin for error.

Re: D’Ernest Johnson: The Browns clobbered the Broncos in that game with the run. Schematically the Fangio defense likes to bring a ton of simulated pressure - both linebackers mugging the A-gaps. The problem with Fangio’s approach vs the Browns was that the Browns, like the Patriots, will run it on 2nd and long. If it’s a zone play and the runner gets outside those LBs are out of position to make a play on the ball. You’d probably see the same results with counter or standard power runs where their ILBs are going to drop back and not be able to flow downhill to defend the right gaps. In other words Johnson looked really good because schematically the Broncos were playing exactly how the Browns wanted them to play against them. Not to take away anything from their good OL or even Johnson who looked good as well but I think his results were more schematically enabled vs individual talent.

The Browns have been effective in shutting down opposing rushing offenses but are middle of the pack against the pass. I think Mac is finally going to have a get-right game and look good this week. Still, this game could go either way and I expect it to be close.

Now just a single game (not counting tie-breakers) out of the #2 seed in the AFC, at least on paper.

If the Pats can get it done Sunday, it'll be a tremendous plus to their playoff chances.

Crazy.

Pats have moved from
+1 to -2.5 over the last few days. So now favored by 2.5 points instead of a small hole underdog.
Should be a great game.

Hell only 2 games out of the one seed and we get to play the Titans at home. If you’re gonna dream, dream big.

Heading to Gillette on Sunday for the first time in many years (last time I was there was the Nikovich walk off strip sack against Mark Sanchez and the Jets many moons ago...).

Quick question- is the ticket-less entry thing still causing backups at the gate? We'll err on the side of caution either way but curious on how that is and how early to head in.

Head in around 12:15pm because after that will probably be a clusterfuck.

I was there for the Saints game. Went in at around 11:45 and got right in with no back up. But we beat the crowd. A friend who was trying to get in at around 12:30 was in line for over 30 mins.

Yeah if Harris can't go and Stevenson can, it will be a fantastic opportunity for the kid to show what he can do. I'd actually expect a big game from him.
I would bet they still lean pretty heavily on Bolden as he is more experienced in pass protection (tho that has also been suspect at times this year). But agree overall.

Does anyone know Cleveland enough to do a deep dive on them? Someone in the Globe many, many years ago, used to do a pre-game analysis of every Pats' game comparing Pats O to Opponent D, and vice versa. Always found that a useful way to look at a game. I think "Patriots Football Weekly" used to go even further and do a comparison each O to D running and passing (so four comparisons).

My singular worry is about the Cleveland D-line lighting up Mac Jones over and over via the Wynn-turnstile.

Cleveland vs NE

Overall
Cle offense: #13 points, #11 yards
NE defense: #4 points, #9 yards

Cle defense: #10 points, #3 yards
NE offense: #10 points, #19 yards

Rushing
Cle offense: #1 yds/g (160.2), #1 y/a (5.3)
NE defense: #14 yds/g (108.9), #9 y/a (4.1)

Cle defense: #3 yds/g (84.8), #2 y/a (3.5)
NE offense: #19 yds/g (106.8), #24 y/a (3.9)*

*NE has been a lot better lately though. Their first four games they averaged 68.5 yds per game rushing. Their last five they've averaged 137.4 per game, and in their last three, they've averaged 147.0.

Passing
Cle offense: #25 yds/g (219.9), #12 in passer rating (97.6)
NE defense: #11 yds/g (231.4), #2 in passer rating (76.6)

Cle defense: #9 yds/g (224.9), #20 in passer rating (95.8)
NE offense: #16 yds/g (238.8), #18 in passer rating (92.5)

So it looks like Cleveland's best play on offense is to run the ball - excellent rushing attack going up against a pretty decent, but not great, rush defense. Their passing attack should (might not but should) have their hands full with the Patriots' excellent pass defense. Meanwhile, for the Patriots, passing seems to be the way to go. Cleveland's D is overall very good, but they're excellent at stopping the run and less excellent stopping the pass.

Great, thanks!
I went to the Jets game and we pre-gamed at CBS Sports zone so we could watch the gates. If you are entering the main gate your best bet is to go all the way right towards the stairs. For whatever reason everyone stopped at the first gate they saw. Probably 15min wait at the first line, 30 second wait at the furthest line, sheep going to sheep I guess. We went in at 12:30 and after the trek to the upper bowl were comfortably in our seats for kickoff. Had been 4yrs since my last game and a lot longer since I sat in 300s. Forgot how long the walk up those ramps was if you are sitting up there def plan on extra time.

I kinda feel like this is a convoluted way of saying that Bowhemian is friends with a sheep.

I actually thought Cleveland +1 was the correct line. Cleveland reminds me a bit of the Cowboys in that they have a very good offensive line and their tight ends do a lot of work both blocking and catching. I figure this ought to be a low scoring game where the team that makes the fewest mistakes ends up winning. It’s not a great matchup for the Pats and I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost. I am more concerned with the offense being able to generate anything vs Cleveland.

I suppose it's possible that he is a sheep. He likes to pre-game at one of the bars, and he stays in the bar as late as possible. He's a season ticket holder, so typically he knows what he is doing. Not this time, I guess.

as for inactive players, any word on Chubb, and has NKEAL been a full participant at practice this week?
