Patriots are bringing back the Pat Patriot uniform/helmet

Anyone ever explain why the Patriots went with red uniforms? I mean, like the rest of you, I think they look super sharp and the old red ones did too. But the red wasn’t worn by the patriots… it was worn by the British. You know…the enemies.
These pictures make their new uniforms look so awful in comparison. They really screwed that change up. The answer was really simple and right in front of them..... Take the at Pat Patriots era uniforms and change everything that was red to navy blue and everything that was navy blue to red. You end up with a fantastic looking, clean, uniform that also solves two of the biggest compliants against the old red unis.... the British wore red and they are a reminder of when the team stunk.I make this point pretty much 2x a year when we start the old Pat Patriot vs Flying Elvis fight. It's not necessarily the Flying Elvis that I hate, it's the silver fucking helmet. Seriously consider these photoshops and tell me they're not 100% better than the silver helmet:
I'm also 100% with you here that the white helmet would be much much better then the silver helment. But the Bills are currently using a white helment with a blue jersey and a white pant. Buffalo's shade of blue is much much lighter then the Patriots, but they also use red as an accent color. I can understand why they wouldn't want the uniforms to be that close to a division foe's. But even with the silver helmets the uniform on Edelman in that picture would be vastly superior to what they are wearing now.
And please no one suggest navy blue helmets. Trying to look like the Houston Texans is never a good idea.
Putting aside Pat Patriot for a second, I’m still not sure why even the standard unis from the early 00s to late 10s were changed to the current bland unis.
I like these too — and most changes would be superior to the 2020-present uniforms, especially the home ones — but would they have to get approval from the league given how similar these would be to the Bills? For what it's worth, I took two of my kids (17F, 14M) to the Pats game on Sunday, and they vastly preferred the Pat Patriot logo and red uniforms to Flying Elvis and the various royal and navy uniform versions the team has worn over the past 30 years. And you can't ascribe that to nostalgia; the last time the Pats wore the red throwbacks was in 2012, when my kids were in elementary school and pre-K, they didn't give a rat's ass about the team then and don't remember it at all.
The current Pats uniforms are in the bottom 5 of the league and are embarrassing.

Edit: I love the Brady 2010 or so style unis and they may be the best of all time. I despise the current ones.
The intent is a play on the American Flag; RED ,white and blue..........red was the primary color of the original uniform, white second with a touch of blue.
Since there are so many people with an adverse reaction to Pat Patriot, I'd go for the Elvis logo on a white helmet, the dark blue jersey they currently wear and white pants at home. I don't get the silver helmet angle with the current uniform, that color has no place on the helmet.
Road uniform could either be all white or white jersey with dark blue pants or red pants, I'd prefer a reverse of the home uniform, white and blue.
I’ve screamed before that the basic scheme from 00 to 19 should always and forever be their primary uniforms. But, they obviously decided they had maxed out merch sales with those. But like you, I can’t understand why they went with something so dull and forgettable. Any of the combination flying Elvis/pre-1993 mock ups would be infinitely better than these abominations.
It’s too bad, but I think true, that the lack of a iconic uniform will hamper the Pats from being seen as a true echelon franchise like Dallas, Pitt, SF, etc. by the general public. I’d vote for the Elvis on the white helmet going forward. Never loved the silver.
And probably because there weren’t as many red-centric teams in the league at the time and it would distinguish them from the nearby Giants.
Nobody else gives a shit about color appropriateness. There are no Rams in LA and rams are not yellow or blue. Buffalo Bill was not a bison, which are not red or blue, etc…
The Broncos are a pretty iconic franchise despite having changed their logo/unis for the worse around 25 years ago, I don't think it has the kind of impact you're hypothesizing.
That used to be enough, and was true of every team's uniform. The only logo on any of them was the NFL shield.
I'd love to see a full-time return to the old Pat the Patriot red uniforms, with a blue top based on the reds mixed in as the alternative, and the Brady era (either the 2001 or 2016 version) as the throwbacks.
Same. My 19 and 15 year olds love the old logo. I don't mind the Flying Elvis at all, and obviously it's associated with our unreal run of success. But Pat Patriot is so damn unique and iconic. I also love the old wordmark as well.
Pat Patriot is a "good shit" who you'd love to have a beer with. Flying Elvis is a hipster douche.
He just went along for the ride! The groundwork was laid through years of Pat Patriot's hard work.
I don't think Tom Brady's career would have mirrored Tommy Hodson's if Brady had worn Pat Patriot instead of Flying Elvis.

Of course the success wasn't because of Flying Elvis, but I personally associate Flying Elvis with 6 Super Bowls and Pat Patriot with a sad franchise that played in a glorified high school stadium. So Flying Elvis is my preference, although obviously I'll be a fan regardless.

I am super close with my boys and we do a lot of stuff together but I am envious that so many of your kids here on the forum like football. I couldn't get mine to watch even if it involved me bribing them with DND loot. That being said I too asked them which uniforms looked the most bad-ass and they all without hesitating selected the red Pat Patriot uniforms. I am also in that bucket. I wish these were the full-time unis.
My son loves going to games in person (college-WVU) but will never sit and watch college or pro ball when I’m doing so on the weekend. He’s only 6 so there is still time, but I don’t see him ever loving sports the way I did when I was little.
I promise this changes. My son is now 10, he didn't show much interest in sports for a while but over the last 1-2 years he will sit down and watch entire games with me - Pats, college, baseball, Bruins, Celts - everything.
I mean, all kids are different. My oldest daughter loves going to Sox games, but wouldn’t watch one on TV if her life depended on it. She kind of casually likes the Pats, but I can see her interest dwindling now that they aren’t winning and playing in Super Bowls every year. My son (17) loves the NBA and the NFL, but has no use for any other sports. My two youngest daughters actively hate sports. Kids have their own personalities and there is more stuff for them to do now then when we were growing up. There’s no guarantee a kid will come around to watching and liking sports just because Dad does, and that’s OK.

Weren't there rumors of this in the offseason? Kind of surprising this wasn't official news during the spring / summer though. I wonder if it qualifies as a uniform change under league rules.
Think they were undefeated under Brady once they brought them back, though (in 2017, IIRC)

That’s very cool. I recall that a big reason why they scuttled the old logo was because atbrheit was very difficult to replicate its very intricate design on merch. This design solves that problem.
Whatever they do, just stop with the blue jerseys with blue pants combo.

One of the better attempts at something like this I've seen, but I'd love to see it with the old colors rather than the navy - the blue of the Pat Patriot uniforms is just so, so sweet.
