This topic was pretty hot on MLB radio. I can't think of any position progression like LF for the Sox. Teddy Ballgame to Yaz to Rice (even Greenwell), but what does SOSH think. Any better out there?

Manny would have been the HoF tiebreaker, but...
I felt like Bernie Williams got screwed; I would have put him on my HOF ballot.

When they were talking about this on MLB radio, they didn't even mention O'Leary. They were like, "Yeah too bad Greenwell got between Rice and Manny, or Boston would have 4 in a row."

They were also doing football, with the discussion centering around Farve-Rodgers and Manning-Luck. Boo.

Bernie was HoPretty Good.

Brodie-Montana-Young

I'd also tack on Starr to Favre-Rodgers

Depends what you think of his defense. He won a few Gold Gloves and had an excellent defensive reputation (and not just among the Luddites who thought CI was a slick fielder), but B-ref's metric scores him at -8/yr for his career in CF.

Even Bernie's proponents (at least the sane ones) wouldn't argue he had great instincts; they'd argue that his speed more than compensated for his reads, which were pedestrian at best. No reasonable person disputes that Bernie's defense fell off a cliff somewhere around 2004 when he lost that speed. But if you think he was an excellent defender for the decade prior to that (not Andruw Jones-level, but much better than average), then I agree that that and his hitting should get him into the Hall. On the other hand, if you believe he was a sub-average defender, or even merely an average one, then I don't think his bat carries his glove all the way to Cooperstown.

For a team with short history rf for the Expos was impressive
Staub
Singleton
Valentine
Dawson
Hubie Brooks
Walker
Guerrero

You have to throw in bridge seasons of Mitch Webster, Tim Wallach, and Moises Alou, but that is an impressive run.

Don't even know who Mitch Webster was but Wallach and Alou were both good players.
