The Chiefs are likely to win their final two games to secure the #5 seed, and I think Cincy has an even-money shot to win their first-round game. The Chiefs coming to Foxboro is imo the most likely scenario.

If the Steelers are so great, wouldn't the Pats just end up playing them in the AFCCG anyway? I don't count the Jets game in the win column easily, especially if Edelman isn't ready, and so the ability to lock up HFA by beating the Dolphins is a good thing.

Yeah this. All of it. I'd rather play the Steelers in the divisonal round coming off a bye than in the AFCCG if we have to play them one way or the other

It's quite simple. He thinks the Steelers are basically the equivalent of the 2007 Pats.
Of all the potential opponents in the divisional round, they are by far the most dangerous. Hell, they're the most dangerous of any other AFC team, period. I think we'd still beat them, but if not, the "clinching bye in week 15" trophy will be little solace.

It's not about clinching a bye this week. It is about next week being a really really hard game, having no clue how the AFC playoff field will shake out, having no idea what will happen in round one (Denver couldn't beat Pittsburgh at home? ok), and getting one step closer to home field advantage.

I'm more afraid of the Steelers than any other AFC team too. But they still could have made it even with a loss today and still might not even with a win. The Broncos losing was good for the Pats. So that's what I wanted to happen today.

The downside of a bye is you often end up playing a hot team in the divisional round, but I think the stats are still that one seeds have made the Super Bowl like 43 out of 80 times since the NFL switched from the pre-determined bracket in 1975.

That stupid "time to next play clock" is back. Not a play clock, but the timer until the ball is snapped. Hey, ESPN, about 15 teams are just as quick when they run the hurry up offense.

Hell the last play, there was single digits on the play clock.

I mean the Pats are 8-1 off a bye in the playoffs under BB. This isn't complicated. They are "only" 6-3 in AFC Championship Games (4-1 at home; 2-2 road)

Especially since every game we play this season seems to sideline 2 or 3 new guys the following week.

And face it -- any loss in any round would be disappointing. Expectations and hopes are higher than, let's win a playoff game or go one step further than last year. Those are other teams' gigs.

Finally, if the Steelers are so good, nobody is taking them out for us and there is no point delaying reckoning day.

Can the Eagles cut DeMarco without a big penalty in the offseason? Pretty clear that didn't work out.

Chris Johnson's injury may have been a good thing for Arizona.

The NFC playoffs are going to be something. Whichever team emerges and makes the Super Bowl will have earned it.

Jesus fuck. It shouldn't be this complicated. The Pats almost never lose at home. Two home playoff games should be the goal, no matter the opponents. Pats have an absurd home field advantage. Being willing to give that up to avoid a one dimensional Steeler team is super dumb.

Edit: sorry just catching up on the Moondog stupidity from earlier.

And it's not just one bye; Denver losing potentially opened the door for basically a 2-week bye, which avoids two games worth of injuries and allows more time for healing. It would sure be nice to save Edelman until the playoffs, for example, and to keep Brady away from Suh.

Yeah, exacting payback on KC in the Divisional Round while CIN/DEN/PIT beat each other up trying to get to Foxboro is fine route to Santa Clara.

Depending on how the season ends, you could have a 16-0 team as UNDERDOGS hosting the Divisional Round game. The top three teams in the NFC really are something (Seattle being the third).

I have serious doubts a week 4 loss during a championship season is on anyone''s radar at Gillette.

I get what you're saying but would Seattle really be favored there? I'd guess 4 or 5 point underdog.

Guys I'm scared to play this Eagles team in the Super Bowl. They're playing Arizona tough, and they match up with us so well. I'm scared their special teams advantages will lead to an upset if we play them in SB 50. I really hope the Redskins make the Super Bowl, or maybe the Falcons can sneak in.
