NBC will televise a divisional round playoff game in the 2014 postseason, the network announced on Tuesday.
NBC, which will also televise one wild-card game on the weekend of January 3, 2015 and Super Bowl XLIX on February 1, 2015, has the right to broadcast one divisional-round playoff game from the 2014 season through the 2022 season, the network said.
That’s not all for changes to the NFL’s playoff broadcast schedule.
ESPN announced Tuesday it would televise a wild-card game this January. The network has never broadcast an NFL playoff contest.

Well previously NBC aired two Wild Card games - both Saturday games - so one of those will go to ESPN. You are right though - in the divisional round, CBS or Fox will lose one of its two games.

Cord cutters can get the broadcast network games (NBC, CBS, FOX), we can't get ESPN games.

Previously all playoff games were on the broadcast networks, only MNF (previously SNF) was not broadcast.

Doing everything they can to combat cord cutters.

I think it's just a way to keep ESPN happy with the billions of dollars they pay to the league. It's one playoff game, I don't think anyone who was going to cut the cord will change their mind over it.

And, as with pretty much all ESPN NFL broadcasts, over-the-air stations in the local markets of the teams involved will get to air the ESPN broadcast.  And you gotta figure cord-cutters outside the local markets will still find a way to watch the game, legally or illegally.  If they don't, that's probably a segment of the population that wasn't going to watch the game even if it was on an over-the-air broadcast.

ESPN is paying 100 million dollars for the rights to the game. That's why.

And, Eagle and Fouts are the new #2 team.

They're actually going to be the #1 team a lot of weeks since Nantz and Simms are not doing games every sunday due to the Thursday night scheduling.
