where the darn libs live
Can someone explain what's going on with Dalvin Cook? I know he's 28, which is elderly for RBs, but he had over 1300 combined yards last year and 10 TD. He made the Pro Bowl.

He's still a decent RB but it seems like the Jets are hellbent on not using him at all.

I live in NJ and, unfortunately, get subjected to Jets games. He looks completely cooked to me, pun not intended. No explosiveness anymore. It’s amazing how RBs just go from dynamic to JAGs seemingly overnight.

He sucked to start the year (no pop, looked slow). He looked pretty good in the Raider game for the first time but the offense is a mess. Breece is better and the starter. Cook is the backup. If we could put together long drives he would get more work, but we can’t and we suck right now.

They have a much better RB on the roster is part of it.... also Cook hasn't looked that good. Honestly in 2022 a lot of his success was just volume.

Schefter:

The NFL is investigating why the Bengals did not list QB Joe Burrow on their injury report when the team posted a picture of him wearing a device on his wrist Wednesday night and he appeared to be hampered by the injury early in the Thursday night game that he later left, the league confirmed today.

The initial picture of Burrow wearing a device that looked like a soft cast on his thumb was posted by the Bengals, only to be deleted later.

The NFL routinely looks into matters of compliance with the Injury Report policy, and will do so in this instance as well. Teams can be fined or even potentially lose a draft pick.

In a couple of days, Deshuan and Burrow done for the year. And the Steelers don't have an actual QB.

It only comes up Baltimore right now. Even with Andrews.

That's seriously a drag. With the Pats out of the picture, the Bengals were my AFC adoptee.

I just hope Burrow comes back 100% healthy next year.

(And it's kind of a pisser that the trade deadline is passed. With half the AFC North QBs going down, maybe we could've gotten something for Mac. Or maybe not.)

It's why they should move the trading deadline, honestly. So many injuries. Why not make it after Week 12? By that point the bad teams also truly know they're out of it.

You knew it was serious when you saw the replay. Threw the short pass to Mixon and then immediately hunched over in pain. Really sucks for a talented guy like this to have so many missed games.

Browns sold their souls and didn’t even get to have fun before getting dragged to hell.

What an absolute piece of shit.

He knows they're going to get rolled against the Dolphins on the 24th. They'll be out of the playoff hunt. He wants to "return to practice" on a Saturday (waltkthrough), one day before their game against the Falcons. He'll be in all the headlines (he'll love it), will be out of the playoff picture, and can say "I told you all! I was ready to return, but the team just couldn't stay afloat without me so they want me to shut it down until next season."

Hes not coming back and I dont believe for one second this is about anything but staying in the headlines.

What's the point really in doing this now? Seems several weeks too late. And the move should have been to bring in Flacco and hope he could steal a few wins. Are you buying any Rodgers returns in December hype?
I don’t want Rodgers behind this oline unless we get guys back. We are likely out of it leaving him no choice anyway.

So Zach Wilson is Ryan Leaf redux (except when Manning and Leaf were up in the draft there was actual debate on who should be the # 1 pick). So very sad.

Without Andrews, the Chiefs defense should be able to easily stop the Ravens. Picking between the two of them in the AFCCG makes me want to vomit, and I don't think Miami can beat either of them in the cold in January.

I'm actually going to the well of rooting for the Bills to turn things around.

Zach was better this year in how he looked to me (footwork and accuracy on easy throws). The oline this year is a mess. I hope Zach goes somewhere that allows him a chance. It’s so over for him here. Zach threw a ball yesterday that hit a guy in the hands and Nantz said it was a bad throw. Romo criticized Zach all game and then Boyle comes in and the truth comes out, no one open, no time to throw. Funny how that worked. Barr Scott who is no Zach fan even killed the oline last week. Zach should go try to be 2nd or 3rd string where there is great coaching.

Also, if you look up Boyles stats, they’re very bad. But, more impressively, his college stats are even worse. I’ll admit, it’s a small sample. But to underperform the starting qb at a non-power 5 school is impressive.

Link for this interested:

For some reason, Boyles's stats from his "redshirt senior" year at Eastern Kentucky are missing. They're not much better:

I was half-paying attention to the end of the dull Bills/Jets game, but I thought I heard Jim Nantz try to tout Boyle as another NFL QB from Eastern Illinois (like Romo), when he went to a different school, and was generally mediocre.

You did, and he said Garoppolo was from Boyle's school too. Romo just rolled with it, "we played in the SEC of the midwest", or couldn't remember himself.

Tim Boyle's college career saw him throw 12 TDs to 26 Ints. He was 8-22 (and even then in looks like in a bunch of wins he threw 1-4 times...garbage time?). How the hell did this guy get on an NFL team? It looks like he was a legitimate horrible college QB.

Matt Cassel too.

Boyle's pro stats: 73-120 (60.8%), 607 yds, 5.1 y/a, 3 td, 9 int, 50.9 rating

So yeah, no idea how he's got an NFL job.

Cassel basically just didn't play, he wasn't terrible on the 33 attempts over 4 years. You could at least argue with him that he was stuck behind 2 different Heisman winners and top 10 NFL draft picks, so no way to know if he was any good.
Boyle was terrible in a decent sample for a bad FBS school to the point he had to drop down a level.... and still sucked.

Some of the story, and I’m not defending this, is that Hackett recruited him out of high school when Hackett was at Syracuse. I’m not sure if Hackett was with Packers starting in 2019 and I think that is when Boyle hooks up with them as an UDFA.

This rah rah piece from when he joined the Packers goes into his history:
