Is there some forthcoming off field news coming? This is hard to understand. It was one thing when the Pats traded Jamie Collins in 2014. There were valid reasons. This feels different.

Anecdotal but my Cowboys fan friends have been telling me how bad he’s been prior to this. Wonder if the long-term effects of the major knee injury are starting to impact him.

Seems like he has decided he is done--and really, as others have pointed out, is there enough need for money to deal with Khan and that overall situation? For some guys they need the competition, but Cowher has made it 14 years without it so don't think he falls into that bucket.

Parcells is too old, but he's a guy who I think loves the challenge and typically is up for the payday.
I saw Parcells at the golf course a bunch this summer. He has really aged the last few years. I doubt he has another NFL job.

He's falling in their LB rotation and he has 9.2M in injury guarantees next year:

Basically he's good enough to be in their rotation, but not that important to it, and they don't want to take the chance he gets hurt and they have to pay him next year. So they pay off the rest of this year and open up cap space next year.

Quite the line from the AP story on the 49ers and JimmyG's latest injury:

Garoppolo has began the season as a starting quarterback five times in his career and has now gotten hurt before the end of the fourth game in four of those.

He’s 80 now. Definitely done.
Lol. Imagine someone suggesting Bill Parcells take a coaching job in the NFL at 80 years old, 15 full years after he last coached in the NFL? That is an amazing suggestion.

And in his tenure at Dallas, Parcells was 34-30 with 0 playoff wins. Billy P went out with a whimper.

Thanks - this makes sense.

The suggestion isn't to coach, it's to be 'head football guy' obviously, given his age. And he's too old for that as well, as noted originally.

As noted in various threads over time, Bill Parcells is basically a .500 coach with no playoff success absent Bill Belichick on his staff so I personally think this story has always been more hype than reality anyway.

People think Belichick is a jerk, but Parcells was a world class cock. Overrated, (he was very good but not the world class coach many think he is) mean, and thin skinned.

I am not a fan of him in any way.

Parcells is one of the greatest coaching talent spotters in the league history, probably the best. If you can get his input on that without letting his big swinging cock persona take over the entire operation…

It’s interesting when you listen to Lynch and Shanahan’s interviews on Jimmy they all said the same thing publicly: we love jimmy but can’t count on him for a full season.

Reporters kept looking for other reasons to go grab Lance, and I’m sure there were some, but the injury history was the stated reason from the Niners brass. And it’s happening again.

He was a world class coach, c’mon man. 2 SBs and took a shit franchise at the time (Pats) to the SB and then took the Jesters to an AFC championship game a few years after a 1-15 season. If that’s not world class, what is?

The suggestion to get him involved now is silly but let’s not go in on historical revisionism.

You might be right. I just hate him for the way he bullied everyone and was obnoxious about it and it's hard to give him credit because of that.

That said, he never won a SB without Belichick on his staff.

He was smart enough to keep hiring BB, that’s not a negative.

Physically he looks fine to me. He's just constantly out of position and has regressed majorly from his first couple of years.

I think he looks better this year than last year. He'll end up somewhere and be solid, he's just probably not worth 9M a year, particularly not to the Cowboys.

FOX's Jay Glazer "one million percent" expects Russell Wilson to seek a trade again in the offseason.
Glazer's exact quote on FOX's Thursday night pre-game show was "a million percent I see Russell trying to do this again. Glazer has seemed extremely plugged into this situation all along, and again confirmed Thursday that things were "very dicey" between the sides last season, if a little better now. Ex-teammate Greg Olsen also openly speculated Wilson could try to force his way out again after 2021. It would seem Wilson is letting it be known he still isn't satisfied with a Seahawks offense that plays conservatively for three quarters before thrusting the game on his shoulders in the fourth. It would seem Wilson and coach Pete Carroll have simply been together too long at this point. Stay tuned.
Mac seems to have a bright future, but...

Dude, Mac for Russell straight up. Who says no? If they need to sweeten the pot they can toss in Harry. /s

I don't think they'll target him tbh, but it's an interesting one to consider since QBs of his quality don't come on the market every day. Whether he and Bill would mesh, I have no idea, but I think he'd certainly look at the cast of receivers here and hard pass.

What are the likely landing spots? GB if Rogers retires/gets moved? Miami? Vegas? How about the Giants? Philly? Russell to McLaurin would be a crazy good combo and he has ties to the area.

The 2022 Week 1 starters for Pittsburgh, Houston, Denver, and Washington almost certainly aren’t on their current rosters. Detroit, Minnesota, and the Giants could (and probably should) join that group. Rodgers will be playing elsewhere next season, and Wilson might be too. A couple of those teams will draft QBs, but that still leaves a lot of action on the carousel.

Other teams that don't really have long term solutions at QB include: Saints, Colts, Falcons.

Don't laugh, I am wondering about Bill's approach with Mac given how old he is. He's almost 70. Too old for a rebuild. I don't know what they would have to give up to get Wilson but it doesn't seem like a crazy idea Bill would do that.

Their season was already wrecked by that defense. Geno is a solid enough backup, they could survive if they had a defense,
The schedule is favorable for them, well it was favorable assuming they had Russ. The D scheme is confusing

I think they win: JAX, PIT, HOU and likely CHI and DET. I think they lose out in division plus Saints and Packers.

The defense is just so bad
I’d pick them to finish 7-10 or 8-9. Beat Jacksonville and Detroit at home, lose at Green Bay and the Rams (and the Cards if Week 17 matters to them), and go somewhere around .500 against the rest of the slate. That might be too optimistic once the league gets tape on Smith, but like you, I think he’s a solid backup who will give his team a chance to win most weeks.

Geno going on a torrid run to deny the Jets a top half draft pick would be pretty Jetsy though
I don’t even know what the Jets should do with all the picks they have (trade up/down/move some to next year etc). Might make a thread about general draft strategy given the circumstances.
They have (last I saw):

2 ones
2 twos
1 three
2 fours
1 five
2 six
0 sevens
