To be clear, the regular season matters for seeding but some teams feast at the trough of not just weaker opposition but also against squads who are resting players or versus guys who are coasting during the dog days of January and February.

Man, it would have been nice if Ray could've hit the 2 he needed to tie the record in game 7 in 2010.
The Cs would be three championships ahead of the Lakers instead of just one.  :smithicide:

Also, if he had hit all his threes in this game and missed that one with 5 seconds left in this game, LeBron would still have zero rings. (And Duncan would have one more).

Could we have 2 conference finals sweeps? Has that ever happened?
Followed by a finals sweep? LeBron doesn't stand a chance on his own against these guys. A fully healthy finals between these teams would have been awesome.

Say what you want about the NBA and MVP voting.  However, you should note that this evening, James Harden had 17 points on 3-16 shooting while Steph Curry had 40 points on 12-19 shooting.  Steph Curry is very good at sports.

I've watched minimal these playoffs, but has Thompson done much int the playoffs?
Dropping 20 a game while playing good sometimes great defense. I'd say he's doing ok.

The regular season matters. The Hawks won 60 games in the regular season but that was mostly because they got out to a huge lead off a great start. After the All-Star break they went just 16-11 against mostly bad competition. The Cavs went the other way, going 20-8 after the All-Star break. Even without Love these were two teams that were trending in different directions and the regular season indicated as much. The Hawks were awarded the number one seed because the league rewards team's who have success at all parts of the regular season, but if we were just going by the last 30 games of the regular season (and those are what really matter in the scope of the playoffs) than it is very unsurprising to see Cleveland well ahead of Atlanta.
I don't think anyone is saying that the regular season doesn't matter. Even so, for some teams, the regular season doesn't mean very much. For example - post 07 big three Celts, the late Duncan Spurs (champs in 07 as a 3rd seed) or to go way back the 6th seeded 95 Rockets

In this year's West, the regular season was very important because of the competitive depth.

Golden State is just on a different level than the remaining teams. Everyone talks about how great Curry and Thompson are and how awesome Kerr has been, but the front office deserves a lot more credit than I think it is getting. Yes Curry has been terrific, but the main reason GS has rolled through this playoffs is just that they are deeper than everybody else. They have been carefully constructed with only 2 top 10 picks the rest where picked up through good post-lottery drafting and savy trading. They have also avoided any significant injury, and now they are rolling through everyone.

The thing with Cleveland is I just see them as a similar team to Houston. LeBron is a better player than Harden, but Harden's performances in games 1 and 2 were about as good as anything LeBron could do and Houston still couldn't come up short. Houston also had a physical X factor in Howard that had the potential to change the series if he showed up. I think we learned last season that LeBron cannot take an underwhelming supporting cast and defeat a deeper team that moves the ball well. Golden State has a very similar formula to how you beat LeBron, with multiple defenders that can make James work for his baskets and a good rim protector that can challenge his shots.

Boston, MA
JR Smith is playing like a legitimate #2 right now and that underwhelming supporting cast is better than you think. Cleveland can absolutely make it a series.

LOL, JR Smith could miss his next 30 three pointers and nobody would be surprised. An Amtrak train is more reliable than him.

LeBron is 0-9 from the field and it's only a one possession game. Not the best of signs for Atlanta.

Ironic to hear Reggie Miller calling an unaware Dellanadova getting hammered on a legal screen "Acting." Oh Reggie.

Horford escaped a possible ACL by a whisker but you can't come down with an elbow like that. Flagrant 2 and ejection?

A Lost Time
The Hawks had made it a game with a good chance of winning it and making it a series and the refs gift the Cavs Horford's ejection. That's just infuriating.

Both Dellavadova and Korver dove together for the ball and Dellavadova came up with ball which clearly demonstrates he was going after the ball and not Korver's lower body. Tonight he didn't dive at all.....it was actually Horford's arm that got tied up that landed Dellavadova off balance to where he fell. The only thing intentional was Horford bringing an elbow and his body down on the opponents head/shoulder area which we all know isn't allowed anymore.

I think the flagarent 2 may have been technically the correct call, but I would much rather see the flagerent 1 in that situation (falling near knee/conference finals/mostly missed Della's head). That was a pretty nasty elbow that could have done a lot of damage. Real ugly scene if that connects.

I'm in agreement that it is technically the correct call. Having said that we always talk about officials and favoritism of stars.....if it were borderline I can see them cutting Horford the benefit of ANY doubt but that was pretty clearly an intentional elbow above the neck. You can't ignore that.

As I was writing response it's reported that Mauer told Bud that "I had to do that" which coincides what I felt too. They got it right.

You are probably right, as a fan its just tough to see a teams best player out in that situation.

Coming from one of the few pulling for Cleveland.

I also thought TNT broadcast did an awful job. I didn't think either play was dirty by dellavadova but they really painted him as the dirty player and let horford skate.

LeBron scored or assisted the final 27 points of the 3rd for the Cavs, amazing.

Hawks playing really physical. Might not have enough w/o Korver & Horford to take this.

4 second differential and the cavs not fouling somehow works out because the hawks were dumb enough to go fast just because Lebron was down
