So.... for important context....
2. He was asked if he would have gone back to NE if they had offerred more.... he dodged it.
I wouldn't expect him to say "Yes I would have", not sure how his current employers would have felt about that.

He was Mac's security blanket, so let's let him walk.

Meh.
He wasn't a clearly significant upgrade to Juju if at all based on past success, he cost more and it isn't clear if he would have come back for the same money as LV. Add in that the coaches had soured on Mac...
It probably slightly hurt the team, and was a mistake, but was generally not a significant move either way for the franchise. I would have hoped by this point people would have realized that one mediocre player at WR is not at all the reason last year went poorly or Mac failed. It's not one of the top 5 or even 10 biggest mistakes of the last few seasons.

yeah, he's probably 4th on the list of guys they salary dump, but if they cut Russ they probably need to move all of them (Patrick, Jones and Simmons being the other 3).
Broncos are one of the more fascinating teams to watch this offseason

Some rumors that Garett Bolles may be a trade/cut candidate in Denver. New England should be all over that.
Wow. That would go a long way toward helping out the Pats' tackle situation. Would help prioritise WR a little more. Let's hope he gets released & we're in the picture.

It’s definitely encouraging that the staff seems like it will be bigger under Mayo than under BB. Seems all that’s left is RB coach, WR coach if Troy doesn’t return and possibly TE coach as Will Lawing could easily follow Bill O’Brien to Boston College. Also need to figure out the status of Joe Judge (likely gone) and Evan Rothstein who was Patricia’s nerd that was brought in.

I was hoping for Stump Mitchell at RB coach.

One name I saw noted worth keeping and eye on.... LeGarette Blount was here last year as part of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship program, and has been posting about Mayo, so may be a potential option (other guy here under the Fellowship was Aaron Dobson).

I always loved Blount and that guy showed up in the playoffs. Plus he was an excellent sleeper agent in Pit. Sign me up. Dobson owes us big time for fraying Tommy's nerves.

I want Stump Mitchell for RB coach and ANYONE BUT TROY coaching the wide receivers. Maybe Troy can be retained as a PR/KR coach under the S/Ts guys.

I'm somewhat undecided about Troy Brown (mostly because I loved him as a player) but think they need a new voice. The WRs beyond Bourne and Pop have done nothing (though I'm not sure it's possible to teach guys how to get separation), and the route running hasn't exactly been crisp under his leadership. Guys bumped into each other less often last year than in '22--but that's hardly an endorsement.

Troy's WR group is fairly limited, but their collective performance on even just fundamentals of route spacing has been terrible for two years. Please get someone else to tutor Tiquan til he and his hair are ready to take the reins.

Isn't O'Shea looking for work? He'd make sense as an offensive assistant, not assigned a specific position group, but working closely with Troy and the WRs. I am sure Troy has a ton of knowledge. He probably just needs a little direction and support on the messaging and overall management part of the job.

Is T.C. McCartney officially the QB coach? That's the one hire that doesn't make a ton of sense (hasn't been a QB coach since 2019). The TE coach hasn't been hired yet and that's what McCartney's coached the last 4 years.

2 years.

He was TE coach in CLE for 2022 and 2023, before that he was an offensive assistant for 2 years after being QB coach for the Broncos.

Overall though, he was likely not QB coach because in 2020 and 2021 they didn't have one, with AVP serving as defacto QB coach, in 2022 they gave the title to Drew Petzing to keep him on the staff (he had been the TE coach) with McCartney getting the TE coach title, Petzing then got an OC job the next year so they couldn't hold him and they went back to AVP as defacto QB coach.

McCartney was a college QB and spent the bulk of his career as a generalized offensive assistant. TE coach is a role you use for guys you think are rising OC potential candidates because it gets them work on everything. Stefanski took a similar route, he was an offensive assistant, then a TE coach, then RB for a year then QB coach. Stefanski worked for Turner who started in the NFL as a TEs coach, then rose to OC/QB coach, it seems to be a common path, particularly in the Turner/Shannahan trees.

Basically Offensive coaches regardless of position touch a lot of things and there is a lot of movement between positions.
