The best part of Mike's discussion of dynasties was when a caller brought up the Pats. He immediately got upset and defaulted to his they hadn't won in 10 years nonsense. The caller calmly said he was referring to the three in four years including back to back titles. Mike had to sheepishly concede that they qualify.

This is one of Mike's strengths as a talk show host: he ascribes arbitrary meaning to sports-related terminology (who really gives a shit what Mike thinks is a "dynasty" anyways), frequently contradicting what he's said in the past, and then screams at callers who don't agree with him. Might be his most charming quality.

Mike needs to work on his math skills.

He just proclaimed that Jose Reyes is a reason why the Blue Jays score so many runs. He's missed a month of the season. When in the lineup, he's got a .303 OBP/681 OPS and has scored 25 runs.

He also pronounces Correa as Korea.

Chris Russo said today he'd be open to re-uniting with Mike Francesa. Then Francesa said he'd be open to that, too! http://www.newsday.com/sports/media/mike-francesa-and-chris-russo-both-open-to-mike-and-the-mad-dog-reunion-1.10660864 …

Wow, thanks for posting that.

Chris must be disappointed with his 2nd satellite contract. He left Mike and the FAN in a huff wanting his own mic. Now that he's making less money with less power and fewer listeners maybe his thinking has changed.

God, that would be great to see them get back together. It's been a long time and both are probably past their prime, but they used to play perfectly together. Mike would offer the gravitas to Dog's occasionally thin on the ground sports knowledge, Dog would prick Mike's enormous ego and keep the show from turning into a Yankee lovefest. Also, they were freaking great at turning nothing into something - nobody before or since has made sports TV ratings discussion interesting radio, and they used to do stuff like go down lists on Baseball-Reference and argue about players. "Mike, is Ted Simmons a Hall of Famah? He's got 54.9 WAR Mike, I mean, that's close Mike, you gotta say that's close." Tuhriffic hittah, tuhriffic, not much of an arm but you never wanted tah see hum in a big spoht. I'm sayin' in."

He spoke about it to Stern in 2013. Steve Torre was still programming his station when I dropped Sirius last year. The show improved by going back to 3 hours. I thought it got back to being pretty good, but it's still a one man national sports radio show. The show never had the "juice" he got from Tank or the NY callers. They ended up replacing Dan Patrick with Steven A Smith. He claims the money from MLBN offsets the drop in pay from Sirius. He did a roundtable for MLBN this week and it's that format where he is at his best. He gets to play off opinions and get people going with what is coming out of his mouth.

Right around 3PM, he was unlistenable talking about Brady and DG.  Stopped just short of equating Brady to Michael Corleone calling for the hits on the heads of the five families
It's certainly one topic they share the same opinion on- they both hate the Pats and buy into DG 100%; despite the fact they're both smart enough to know better.

He made a big deal of pointing out "Wells has gone on record as saying he'll testify against Brady in FEDERAL court!!!"
When did Wells say that?  I'm just curious, I must have missed it.  If thats true Wells really is butt hurt about how his report has been perceived.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
A single call at 3:15 today Re: DG.  Wish I could print Mike's response verbatim, it was so many kinds of off-base:

Among the points:

the evidence that Brady ordered the Code Red is not even open to debate, it's right there in black and white in the Wells report;

Wells is a high profile/accomplished attorney, and he cant WAIT for this to get into a court room;

the LAST thing Brady wants is for this to go to court and have to testify under oath in court, as then he'll be forced to tell everything he knows;

if it goes to court, the NFL will look even better and Brady and the NFL PA will look even worse than they already do (so Brady will settle or cave in  to avoid court; may have said that Brady has no choice but give in).

EDIT:  FFF was spouting off as if Fordham Law is keeping a Chair warm for him, for when he finally leaves radio and can go John Houseman full time.

I heard this by accident as he is impossible to listen to anymore.

Used to get angry when he bloviated about these things, today just kind of shook my head with wonderment, as he clearly BELIEVES what he is saying, yet he is so totally wrong.
Actually left me speechless and feeling kind of sad for him.

Time to retire Mike, and go to that magic Diet Coke factory in the sky.

It's worth remembering how he performed when ARod walked into his studio 20 months ago and denied ever taking any sort of PED. (Other than the ones he had already been caught taking.)

The point is the Mike will believe anything you tell him without any critical thought if it fits with his bias.

I thought this was funny, with these two thoughts coming within about 45 seconds of each other on Tuesday (paraphrasing, just giving the gist of it):

RE a 4 game suspension:  Brady is RICH, and his wife is even richer, the money from the missed games means NOTHING to him, this has nothing to do with the money, he can afford it.

~then~

Brady wont possibly pursue the issue as hiring all those lawyers and investigators will run into LOTS of money,  The WR cost $5M, how can Brady expect to fight the NFL's resources, he's just one man.(now conveniently ignoring that Giselle is the highest paid model in the world, and Brady has the resources of the NFL PA behind him)

Anyone else besides me catch Francesa's opening monologue today?  He of course skewered the Patriots, but god it was so epically stupid.  This is saying something, but he knows less about this than I know about law.

But....he has a microphone and millions of listeners, and a lot more money.  So there's that.

It's better just to not listen when Mike talks about the Pats. He hates Belichick and Kraft. He consistently throws out false and thoroughly debunked stories as gospel to push his biased viewpoint of them. If this same story played out like this and it was Eli and the Giants, we would be hearing a very different take from him.

He so off base on so much Re DG, it's starting to sound like Drunk History.

In his defense, tho, he's far from alone on this.  It's amazing how many host, talking heads, analysts, former players, et al are experts on the inner workings of a federal court case/room.

Looks like it's going to be a lot sooner than that.

For the Mike Francesa fans, here's what I can tell you. Fox Sports will formally announce the Colin Cowherd hire in a release later today. In that release, I think they will note that Cowherd will have his show simulcast on Fox Sports 1 in the afternoom. That show is scheduled to start Sept. 8.

My guess: What will not be in the release is what that means for Mike Francesa. But what it likely means is that Francesa's show will be migrated to Fox Sports 2 on a near-term basis. I don't know how Mike will react to this or what that means for the longterm with his relationship with Fox Sports. I emailed Fox Sports with a specific question on Francesa and no response yet. If I get something formal, I will let you know.

The Yankees never liked when he would just start epically ripping on them for something dumb they would do - on their own network no less.
But the tipping point had to be when he was A-Rods lackey while he was suing everyone in baseball on his banned for life tour

Anyone know when he's back from vk?
First show back could have an epic opening
He will be back on Monday but spolier alert: He will be reporting from Giants camp so there will probably be a lower key opening. Usually on days when he is offsite, FF will go straight to guests. On Tuesday FF will be at Jets camp so that should be interesting.

Mike doesn't sound so cocksure about the NFL's case anymore...

"Wells said his evidence is very strong, but how strong is his evidence?"

"Goodell is as bad a PR commissioner as there has been."

Revis is on with Mike and talking about the final sequence of the SB.  He thought Russell Wilson was going to QB sneak it in.  Very important to come back here.  My heart has always been here and always will be.  I'm a different player this time around.  Smarter and understanding everything around me.  Very honored to do the Broadway Joe SI cover.  At this point, it's all about racking up wins.  I trust in Coach Bowles and his decision making.  Still competitive and playing the game I love.  We are stacked on defense and have a lot of depth and talent.  In the long haul, the depth will help us out.  We are shocked and surprised at the Geno Smith incident but have moved on.

It's really terrible that he's off until Tuesday. I heard a couple of Jets goons losing it right after the announcement, but Tank would have been wonderful today. I think he will focus on Goodell when he does talk about it.

Next host filling in for FFF:  Pats fans feel great now, but it's a false hope, as this case is just at halftime.  There's a whole lot of game left to play.....

edit:  OK, a bit more rational now.  Yes, NFLPA agreed to Article 46, but RG so pooched his responsibility as an adjudicator that Berman had no choice but to vacate.

Yup. His take will be, 'we all know the Pats cheat, it's just that Roger is so incompetent he can't even catch the Pats red handed when it's obvious they're cheating.' He will never give up the ship on slamming the Pats and BB, just kill Roger.

His mouthpiece Malusis (sic) spouting the same BS.

So ignorant and flat-out stupid, needs to be heard to get full breadth of the thorough and complete density of thought.

He "knew" Brady knew when Kraft agreed to the punishment.

A given that the balls were deflated. Of course he wouldn't want to say or believe in anything else - then he couldn't fill in for the Fat Fuck
