For basically standing pat on the rotation problems and the power outage, and for fielding a AAAA team the last month or so. But that's neither here nor there - I'm just curious as to how Mike handled him.

And now a caller is getting on Mike for being too soft on Omar, so my question has been answered.

Francesa is always soft with Omar...Omar did say that teams he had been dealing with are no longer sellers...and teams that will trade are asking for way too much because they know the Mets are hurting.

he just had Bruce Pearl on...at end of interview Pearl said ""Alright Mad dog you're the best."...WFAN has already edited it out of the podcast on their site...

I wonder if Mike has another frustrated anti-Yankee rant in him today after being shut down by the Bravos. I'm guessing he does.

It was probably a brain fart, but I'd like to think it's a subtle dig at Mike. Tank loves to describe Pearl as dressing like the team mascot.

I agree with HB. Right now he has nothing to get worked up on. The Yankees haven't been using Luis Castillo style and it's not like their bullpen has been blowing games either. The entire offense is flat. I think he'll go after management.

How can you not go after Cashman? He really has done less with so much more than most everyone else. You could throw Omar into that discussion, as well. The NY teams are a joke, the Yankees have an old, slow and boring team and the Mets are a glorified AAA team of players who were all apparently using PED's and now can't stay healthy without them.

Probably, though the callers should be able to provide most of the entertainment value.

Lisa from Whitestone whining or Joe D from Brooklyn in anguish is sweet, sweet music. Come on in boys, the schadenfreude's fine!

Joe D called into WFAN after the game last night....killing Arod...killing Girardi...and of course had to take a shot at Krod and the Mets...

I doubt it, at this point it's beating a dead horse. I think it will take more of a funeral disappointed tone.

If he hasn't gone there already, it may be time for clinical discussion of how the Yanks are on the cusp of being blown out of the division race, which would leave them in a desperate fight to make the postseason. After the off season acquisitions and all that money.

This leads beyond Girardi to Cashman. Setting the table.

"Yankees looked asleep. Since those 3 games in Boston this team has done absolutely nothing. They are 4-9 in their last 13, the offense has completely fallen apart."

"The Yankees are starting to look incredibly old in spots."

What does he mean with "Damon can't see in the OF"? Did something more come of that squinting session he did in Boston after dropping a fly ball?

Yeah, he missed a ball in Florida as well, and he complained about having sight issues in the past few days.

Just closed out his opening monologue by saying Torre got the 'last laugh'.

He took some delight in that little dig.

Also wondering aloud about who's in charge and who's holding the team accountable for the past 2 weeks of "sleepwalking." Seems like Mike misses George more than he thought he would.

I think Mike basically just summed up the Yankees, they have 3 4th outfielders and 3 DHs.

To me that's the real issue, the Yankees are built by throwing money around big names and stats with no plan on how they fit. If it were the NFL they'd have Tom Brady and Peyton Manning on the same team

Must be tough for Yankee fans right now. Two best teams are Joe Torre's club and the Red Sox.

If they do miss the playoffs again, and I think they will, the only solution is to tell everyone involved in the baseball ops to go screw. That means Cashman, all his advisors, and Girardi. They need to clean house and get someone in there with some kind of long term plan. They should look at what the M's did this off-season and take major notes.

(I hope they don't do this because I enjoy watching the franchise with the most available resources fail each year.)

Finally a caller rips into St. Derek. And of course Mike dutifully deflects away a lot of the blame.

Well, Jeter is hardly the issue--.301/.371/.449, 15/16 SB. We all know about his defense, but if the team is going to run him out there at SS that's on them. He's playing good ball.

anyone catch the rant about 'stars'?

Some caller starts by asking 'what do you think it'll take to get Cliff Lee..." and Mike cut him off immediately with this:

"I don't think they need pitching or a star... see, that's the usual response from Yankee fans... add another star... let's get Brad Pitt... throw him on there... it's always the same thing... this movie is in trouble, get me Brad Pitt, and how about George Clooney, add him too... it's always about adding stars and it never works!"

awesome stuff

He's very pissed off and the callers are winding him up.

Between McCoy and Hadlock
Someday we should organize an annoy-athon and just flood the board with the most annoying calls we can muster. See if we can get him to have some sort of on-air episode. I volunteer to call up and go into great details about the Yankees current problems but occasionally interject football terms. "The refs were awful", "Why didn't Girardi have Jeter go for the extra point?"

Mike is wrong about that, Troy is a little slice of celluloid heaven.

Mike is pointing out that the callers are dead wrong in blaming A-Rod for all of the failures. He points out that he was doing so well in the '04 playoffs (.400 in ALDS and doing very well up until Game 5 of ALCS.) He is right IMO. A-Rod had the best season of any right handed hitting Yankee ever in 2007 so anyone that says he hasn't done anything in a Yankee uniform is wrong.

But this is where circumstantial evidence fuels selective memory. A few costly mistakes, some unclutch moments, steroids admissions, dropping his wife as she gives birth all add up to reasons to pile on, despite the actual performance

Can we expect some good stuff from the big fella today, or is he on vacation?

He loves the "team x OWNS team y" theme, and the weekend will feed his season rant about the Yankees coming up short against good clubs, the bully theme.

Combine this will Halladay being dangled and we could have something special.

He's not on today. Benigno and Roberts are on in his slot.

Yes. Add to that the whole Yankees can't beat good teams angle and another round of ripping into Joba the sucky starter. Would've been nice. We'll have to wait another week.

Mike back in the chair today, spent the 1st hour talking Mets baseball. 'zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

If he mentions the Russo meltdown I'll post it here. I doubt he will.

UPDATE: No Russo mention. He did get me angry, though...

Mike on Roy Halladay today:
"Let someone else get him, I'm tired of the Yankees always getting the biggest star."

Mike on Teixeira 5 minutes earlier:
"Red Sox made a big mistake on Teixeira- Cashman staked his reputation on going after him and he won that. Yankees got the best talent on the FA market for the next 3 years."

And yet an hour earlier Mike was lecturing the class about how the Yanks shouldn't have an overwhelming salary advantage, despite the fact that they clearly do. "They have something that resembles a budget," he later admitted. Sometimes I think he forgets how wide the discrepancy is over the rest of MLB. Mike, like many Yankee fans i know, like to live in this fantasy world where they believe there is an even financial playing field except for the part where the MFY were able to go millions over even the RS contract offer for Tex. So, in his charity to the league, he and the elite Stratos cloud dwellers are willing to throw Doc Halladay to the rest of the cave mining Troglytes of the league. Gee, thx Mike! Hey, you gonna finish those all those fries?

I almost threw my shoe at the tv when he brought up " I'm tired of the Yankees always getting the biggest star." He followed that by saying something to the effect that they had a group of real baseball players right now (not superstars) and didn't want to add Halliday-- is he kidding? and praising Cashman because he put his rep on the line with Tex while the Red Sox blew it. Are you kidding me - HIS WIFE WANTED NEW YORK AND TEX WANTED THE MONEY PERIOD
