One way to think about things: Chelsea have the highest number of remaining fixtures in English football, since they're in all four competitions plus the club world cup.
If the PL pauses until the weekend of January 8/9 as reportedly being discussed, there will be 17 weeks left before the scheduled end date of the season (May 22), accounting for two international breaks.
Chelsea have the following remaining fixtures: 22 league, 2-7 Champions League, 1-4 League Cup, 1-6 FA Cup, 1-2 Club World Cup.
So that is 27-41 fixtures to fit into 17 weeks. Even if they intentionally crash out of the domestic cups at the first available opportunity, you're probably talking about 30-32 fixtures, essentially playing twice a week almost every week for five months.
There is probably 2-3 weeks slack to potentially extend the season into early/mid June. On the other hand, there is no guarantee that the Covid situation will be better by the weekend of January 8/9.
