Well, couldn't be a worse possible scenario.

Need one, preferably two of Henderson/Gerrard/Lucas/Coutinho at least to be fit for City, assume that Borini will be one of the strikers up top. Back-line probably unchanged from today, Can needs a rest.

----------------- Mignolet -----------------
------ Lovren --- Škrtel --- Touré ------
Marković --- Allen --- Henderson ----- Moreno
----------- Lallana ------ Coutinho -----------
------------------- Borini ----------------

Agreed. Sturridge, Can and Sterling need rest.

For some reason or another, Borini always seems to give City all kinds of headaches.  I can't stand playing against him, he turns into a menace.  Big question for me is what you do if Henderson can't make it?

I loved the lineup. I own that.

I didn't expect to be cooked an extra crisp 30 minutes against City.

Worst. Outcome. Ever.

The back-to-back against Man U and Arsenal at the end of the month looms large.

Can't be much harder than Tottenham, @Southampton, City all in a row.  Liverpool is rounding into form at exactly the right time.

I meant looms as in the results will likely determine which one of these three teams gets left out of the top four. I like the team's chances against anybody with its current form.

I was just reading the Guardian's coverage of the Johnson arrest.  They could use an editor:

Johnson, who came through the youth ranks with Middlesbrough before joining Manchester City in 2010, moved to Sunderland in 2012 for £10m. He has won 12 caps for England, although “All the main activity was between 9.15am and 9.35am,” a neighbour was quoting as saying by The Sun.

Looks like the lineup is: Mignolet, Can, Škrtel, Lovren, Allen, Henderson, Moreno, Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling, Sturridge

Bench: Ward, Johnson, Touré, Williams, Marković, Balotelli, Lambert

Imagine they'll lineup something as normal, with the wrinkle of Lallana down the right instead of one of Ibe/Marković

I don't understand what's going on with the Anfield pitch. It seems like once they announced they were going to dig it up after the season, they've just let it go. It looks like my public high school's field.

It's hard not to play "what-if" with this season were it not for the home draws against Hull, Everton, and especially Leicester.

That's a really good article and obviously Neuer immediately jumps to mind but what keepers are out there that might fit this style that might also be available?  It would seem to be a fairly small subset of players.
In a perfect world (maybe even a realistic one) they could bring Reina back as a backup/mentor for Mignolet.

I'm not nearly as savvy at European football, but that article seems a little Eric Van-ish. As in, he's pre-disposed to blame LFC's problems on Mignolet, and he's reverse-engineered a specific weakness of his game and how it relates to LFC's strategy.

I tend to agree.

I love the idea of a goalkeeper as an additional outfield player. That's certainly where the game is headed. My training growing up as a goalkeeper spent very little time on footskills, passing, and handling. There's been a big shift in that direction, and it's understandable why. If the keepers can't pick up back passes and throw-ins, then they certainly need a competency with their feet. Search Google for video of the first years keepers couldn't pick up back passes. It's high comedy.

With that in mind, what do you want your keeper to excel in? One thing nobody could ever knock Mignolet for is his shot stopping ability. I'd stake him against the best in set and reaction saves. His main concern has been in command of the box. In that he's grown beyond expectation in the past few months. Credit where credit's due.

I don't know that there's a metric that can measure a keeper's shot stopping against his handling. What is most critical? For me, the keeper is out there as the last line of defense. He needs to make above average saves to give confidence to the back line and sweep up any mistakes made. Is that more or less valuable than the ability to take a back pass and make a precise connection? In my mind, no. In the article's view- yes.

Yeah he move his arms and legs while on the ground, looked like a bad concussion. Thankfully Sakho's coming back to fitness

The commentary during the injury break showed a comical lack of awareness. Maybe we just see too many head injuries over here in the NFL and NHL and have a better grasp of the symptoms?

That was ugly.  From ESPN "According to BT Sport, Skrtel looks OK in the dressing room and Liverpool are not particularly worried by the injury."

So yeah I think they might not fully get concussions yet, I agreed on the fencing reflex. That's what it looked like to me.

Fox sports 1 not having its best day with the video feed.

Glad they are able to seamlessly pick up the UK feed.

I understand and agree with the Can yellow, but nothing when Conway tackles Sterling a moment later? Not even a foul?

California. Duh.
At least in the replay Blackburn will probably feel like they have to take some chances going forward at home. Will hopefully open up the game a bit more.

The Hillsborough police match commander has agreed his failure to close a tunnel "was the direct cause of the deaths of 96 people".
David Duckenfield also accepted he "froze" during the afternoon of the 1989 football disaster.
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/mar/17/hillsborough-duckenfield-admits-not-closing-tunnel-directly-caused-96-deaths

He accepted that he failed to recognise the need to close the central tunnel, so he failed to take any steps to do so. Greaney then asked him if he agreed that “that failure was the direct cause of the deaths of 96 persons in the Hillsborough tragedy”. Duckenfield replied: “Yes, sir.”

This feels like a big breakthrough.
