I'm thinking more of a 6-4-1. Apparently, Bill's new scheme does not require cornerbacks...MarcSullivaFan said:What? Are they going to a 6-3-2?
Stitch01 said:Man I nailed that Kyle Arrington as the number one corner by snaps prediction last week.

Patriots created $790,000 in cap space by releasing Arrington

Yes, I realize this. Just don't get why releasing him and freeing up less than $800k. According to Miguel's salary page on him, they save $3.5 million on the cap next year however. If they get him back, that's great. But, it's a big risk exposing him to the market.DrewDawg said:
There's every chance he's back.

If designated as a 6/2 release Arrington's 3M salary will remain on Patriots cap until 6/2. 2015 Cap savings would then be $2.415m.
McClain and Fletcher as well.Stevie1der said:Wow, so who's left with game experience at CB (discounting McCourty who will presumably stay at safety)? Butler, Ryan...They must LOVE the tape on Darryl Roberts.
They signed Bradley Fletcher and Robert McClain, who have a lot of experience.Stevie1der said:Wow, so who's left with game experience at CB (discounting McCourty who will presumably stay at safety)? Butler, Ryan...They must LOVE the tape on Darryl Roberts.
They save his $3 MM in 2015 salary by cutting him now (dead money is dead money; it has to be paid whether he's kept or cut). Maybe they think they can sign him for less than that.RedOctober3829 said:Yes, I realize this. Just don't get why releasing him and freeing up less than $800k. Then there's this. Patriots making Monday headlines. And the biggest one is yet to come here in next 24 or so hours.

@patscap As a released player Arrington would not count in 2016 comp pick calculations
SeoulSoxFan said:Per PFF, Arrington was indeed one of the better slot corners last year:
I could see this (mostly in light of drafting Richards to go with Harmon and Chung), but I don't think Arrington's release moves the needle much on DMC to CB. McCourty was outside-only when he was last at CB. He's spent a little time in the slot since moving to S (in obvious passing or goal line situations) but I think Logan Ryan (probably already slated to play extensively) or Robert McClain would be the PT beneficiaries with Arrington gone.JBJ_HOF said:Reiss on ESPN says the attention turns to McCourty, and initial thoughts are he may be heading to CB.

It's hard to be rational on either side of this issue right now.BigSoxFan said:Anyone else really concerned about our current depth chart? I mean, the last we saw of Logan Ryan he was getting absolutely abused by mediocre Seahawks receivers. Bradley Fletcher was a human turnstile for Philly last year. Malcolm Butler made the bestest play in the history of ever but is still largely unproven. And the rest of the guys are new/young. If the front 7 doesn't improve like we hope/expect, things could get really ugly unless Belichick can work more magic. There is some cap space to play with so hopefully a solid vet is added to this group in the summer and isn't in the Duane Starks mold.
