His two ABs at the end of Sunday night's game were exactly what I think of when I hear the term "professional hitter." Tie game, one out, man on third - if you can get a hit sure, but what matters is that you just put the ball in the air, deeper the better, and he did just that. Extras, two on two out so now you need a hit to score? Line drive to left center, ballgame.

I mean, in nearly every situation of an opt out, it's in order to find a more lucrative deal. So, I do think there's a chance he'd go that route. However, if the Sox made a competitive offer while not being the highest, he'd return imo. I think both he and the Sox have done right by each other and have seen tremendous success together. That counts for a lot.

The question is what does Bloom envision as his left side of the infield going forward three, four, five years. Is X his guy at SS? Is Devers his guy at third (given his recent play, he's been awesome, so maybe he is). We'll see. This ultimately is one of those good problems to have. The Sox have the money to decide where they go from here. Obviously, I hope X is going with them wherever they go.

I guess my question is about what team did he dream about playing for when he was growing up. I mean everyone is different. How much money is enough? I hope he stays in all honesty and something can be worked out. I agree with no 10 year deals for anyone.

We need to see who lands where, but it could be that the top half dozen or so markets have their SS when X can opt out. I’m cautiously optimistic that the Sox can add a little to X’s current deal and keep him.

I would doubt that a megabucks Bogaerts is or will be in NY’s plans. If they want to spend big money at SS (possible), Story and Correa will be available this winter, and also NY has shortstops killing it at every minor league level right now, so much so that I wrote a lengthy post about it recently.

Peraza and Volpe and Vargas are all on various top 100 lists already.
It's obviously a theoretical since Cashman would rather murder his family that trade prospects. Boston should definitely be scouting those shortstops to figure out which one they're going to pick up in the Rule 5 draft. ;)
