Came in on it late, but Tim Hassleback was on this morning re-bloviating his absolute certainty that the Pats deflated the footballs, and are paying the 2 equipment guys to keep quiet/cover it up. Which that bizarre little troll Tanguay took as vindication of his rantings about this of late. Jesus, I know it's all show biz, but do these fuck-wits ever apply an ounce of critical thinking to their drivel? Would Brady really take this as far as he has, and would the Pats stand as firm in their denials, if they knew they were guilty, and were relying on something as tenuous as paying off 2 low level employees to keep quiet? Defies all basic logic. Also, is there some Back-story to the hair Hasslback seems to have across his ass about Brady/the Pats? Did they cut him once, or something like that?

I didn't get that at all from Hasselback. He's a lifetime patriots fan who used to be a ballboy for the team and worked for/was friends Jastremski (or however the fuck you spell it) back in the day.

He didn't say he thought they were paying him off at all. He just said he thinks they were deflating the balls, judging by his history with the team, and thinks it's not an especially big deal, but if you were to ask him if they did it, he would say yes. He thought the idea of paying them off was ludicrous. He said it was all out of proportion, etc., etc., but that he thinks "the deflator" is actually the deflator.

Just piling-on at this point, but D+C+M have really been killing it on Deflategate throughout. They seem to actually have read some of the source material, and they are doing a great job of picking apart those who have not, without turning into a shouting match.

Fred Toucher put a moratorium on deflategate stuff because he thinks it's bad radio. It is, if it is handled like most of the talking heads have been handling it. But D+C are giving a master class in how to spin good radio out of a complex, technical, and disputed set of facts. (Never thought I would type that).

Thanks for the clarification. I did come in on the middle of it, and may have been conflating his comments with that dork Tanguays response to them. But his comments about his experiences with the team leading to him believe they knowingly deflated the balls does make me curious. His being a ball boy had to have been when his father played for them, long before the BB regime. And I do think it defies logic to think all parties would continue to fight/deny this, if they knew the equipment guys had the goods on them. Wouldn't they have just taken their medicine long ago, ala spygate, if they knew they were guilty?

Yep, I agree with you.  WEEI has been much better on the disputed PSI story than the Sports Hub.  Gary Tanguay, however, is a deal-breaker.  I had to turn the channel this morning the moment I heard his obnoxious voice bellowing through my speakers.  Tanguay offers nothing, in an annoying fashion.  Please put that hack out to pasture, and stop torturing your listeners.  If WEEI insists on employing a retread, they'd be better off with Glenn Ordway.  At least he has some actual talent.

I hate Tanguay as much as anyone but Kirk is more than a match for him and it is interesting hearing him sputter and try to figure out his hot next sportz take. I guess what I'm saying is though I'd prefer no Tanguay I can deal with him on the morning show since they put him in his place pretty easily.

I heard the Hasslebeck interview and it was awful at first with Tanguay talking over everyone but a minute or two in they reeled him in and he said next to nothing the rest of the way.
I thought the Hasslebeck interview was good in general, it was refreshing to hear someone argue a against C & M who had actually read the reports and was smart enough to process them unlike most of the other guests they've had.

His take on Mort and that he did nothing wrong was pretty awful though, EEI has been using that as a promo all day.

Tanguay and Volin on at the same time, ugh.
I tune in just in time to hear Volin agree that it is reasonable to suspect the Pats and/or Brady are paying off McNally or JJ. Callahan is trying to break through the veil of stupid but he isn't really equipped. If it were Minehane and these two it might be interesting but not just Gerry.

Edit:I just saw this tweet from Minehane that sums it up:

Kirk Minihane ‏@kirkmin  5m5 minutes ago
Tanguay and Volin having a Bird vs. Dominique duel in stupidity and half-assed conspiracies. Thinking @GerryCallahan kills himself by 8:30.

Volin's whole theory is predicated on the idea that the league wants to protect Belichick but is willing to sully Brady's reputation in the process.

Makes. No. Sense.

The tortured logic in this entire matter can only be explained as insanity or straight up trolling.

What's the more logical conclusion at play? A vast and complicated conspiracy or RG being an incompetent idiot? And even when you go with the conspiracy theory, what was being gained? In the AFCCG in question, the alleged tainted balls produced 17 points while the alleged fixed balls produced 28 points. And the bulk of the damage was done by Blount on the ground. I can't even anymore.

Yes. Yes they are. It's the single biggest issue the show has (other than, well, the homophobia and racism, but Kirk has mitigated that quite a bit, and Dennis has even largely put a stop to it).

Their sensibilities have evolved to right around here:

Tanguay talking about how many women Gronk has slept with. This is creepy radio.

Yesterday, during Gronk's interview appearance, Tanguay began asking: "Gronk, Christian Fauria claims to have sex everyday. Wilt Chamberlain famously claimed to have slept with 20,000 women. You're not just a hero..."

I tuned out there. Tanguay is the fucking worst.

Gerry is in his glory. Great chance to throw some thinly veiled Muslim hate around.

Holy hell is Tanguay bad. I haven't heard him in a real radio role in a long time, but he's brutal, worse than i remembered. I AM JUST GOING  TO YELL AND TALK OVER EVERYONE!

Wait until you hear him talk about a relatively attractive woman.   :barf:

Mike McCann must be thrilled to be thrown into this. And besides the Schilling stuff Tanquay is all excited about reports that a bunch of female employees at ESPN have Ashley Madison accounts he asks McCann if the women at SI are horny too.

I tried listening, because I really wanted to hear what McCann had to say in a more open forum.  But every time he'd get going a little bit, Gary would cut him off and start rambling about inconsequential bullshit that points to the Patriots being guilty.  I had to shut it off.  What a waste of a good get.

McCann is on CSNNE quite a bit recently, little better listen that this morning...tuned in for a few minutes in the car and got nothing with Tanger in the way

Tanguay is like that creepy HR guy who spends too much time at women's cubicles that no one wants to talk to one on one.
Callahan and other callers at least handed him his lunch this morning.

Can you imagine having a teenage daughter like he has, knowing she may be listening?

I only heard about 5 minutes this morning on the way into work, but the crazy thing was their positions were:

Tanguay: HE SHOULDN'T COMMENT ON POLITICS, ESPN PAYS HIM TO BE A BASEBALL ANALYST!!!! ESPN SHOULD FIRE HIM FOR POLITICAL COMMENTARY.
Gerry: Can anyone tell me how it's controversial to compare ISIS to Nazis?

Both completely missing the point. Gerry starting to ask about homophobia or religious beliefs if they're allowed to have those and say it, not that he compared Muslims to Nazis.

Flipping back to T&R.

Fred: So, Schilling once again proved he's an idiot, every knows he's an idiot, ESPN shouldn't have suspended him for being an idiot. You get what you pay for, they've known what he is for awhile. This is nothing new with Curt. I'm glad he didn't apologize and just said he understands the rules of the road. Maybe he should go back to his main hobby of blocking people on Twitter.

Conversation over.

Gary Tanguay is simply turn off radio.  Minnehane and callahan have been great on DFG and I've been listening to them for the first time in 2+ years.  But with GT in studio....nomore

I feel like between Tanguay and all the "Schilling is a victim" talk, D&C has undone all the progress that they've made (in my mind) over the past couple of months.

I now remember very clearly why I hated them before.

To be fair, a lot of the "progress" seems to have been driven by Minihane and sober Dennis, both of whom have been out this week.

was thinking the same thing this morning.  they had been so good breaking down the deflategate stuff, but it's just awful right now

D&C never changed their social commentary. You guys were just roped into their pro-Patriot take vs. Felger and Mazz or the national media. That stance didn't change John, Jerry, or Kirk from being who they are. It was a little more than a year ago that Kirk was suspended for deeming Erin Andrews a "gutless bitch" over an All-Star game interview. I think he's good at radio, but as a man he's a horse's ass.

And I agree with VInho that my agreement with D/C and Minihane on the Goodell/Brady case sometimes makes me forget how contemptible they are when talking about anything besides deflategate. Callahan really dislikes gays and trans people -- its like an obsession with him. I am sure he will agree with Shilling that Muslims are like Nazis, too.

EDIT: addition

Well Goodell doubled and quadrupled down on the bullshit, Mort is simply following the NFL's lead again.   May have to get up early

I hope they give out Mort's cell phone number on the air. That's probably the most damaging thing they could do to him that doesn't involve physical violence.

D&C saying that the Patriots told them that the Krafts did reach out to Mort.  Told him that their issue was with the source, not Mort.

Tanguay saying, "Technically, they didn't apologize.  But they kinda did."  Tanguay thinks the issue is with the NFL, not Mort.  And the NFL is more to blame.

Gary:  I have no reason not to believe him.

I wonder how Lokyo really feels.

@NEPD_Loyko: .@GaryTanguay is a terrible actor. His little schtick is so transparent. Having him on this this morning after hyping the show is moronic.

@NEPD_Loyko: For once in my life I hope @RonBorges is right and Ordway got the midday job. Just so I can watch all of Tanguay's hopes and dreams smashed.

It is true that Minehane tweeted it but I can't imagine even EEI management being stupid enough to think a week of solo Tanguay would be a good idea.
Just Minehane trolling it seems.
