Kirk and Callahan: Done

The little that I head this morning was nothing but screaming by Mad Dog Russo.  He was incensed that D&C and Kirk even suggested that Brady was innocent in this matter. Then he admitted that he hadn't read the Wells Report, but it was obvious that something was going on.  He had the same useless retorts that the others have.  Why did the Patriots fire these two guys, then defend them?  How come Brady hasn't been screaming from the roof tops about his innocence? Why would the Pats not allow another interview with dorito dink/why wouldn't Brady give up his cell phone?  They must have something to hide.

Edit......Hendu knows what's up.

Mike and the Mad Dog was the best sports talk show ever aired (which might be damning them with faint praise). The key was that both guys have huge egos that they had to rein in for the show. And each of them served as an antidote to the others' worst tendencies. On their own, they've each gotten progressively worse over time with no one to call them out when they're being stupid.

I have never found Mad Dog listenable without Mike, and Mike is a tough listen without Dog.

anyone listen w/ Dennis back? seemed like nothing changed in the brief moments I tuned in

i listened for a bit, he thanked a ton of people, including one good sir named rich from the toucher & rich program
he said rich sent him a heartfelt email wishing him well, JD seemed genuinely touched

then gerry immediately chimes in, "BET YOU DIDN'T GET ANYTHING FROM FRED, BECAUSE IF YOU DID IT WOULD BE HYPOCRITICAL!!!"

ahh, gerry.  never miss an opportunity to cast dispersion

Not surprisingly, Gerry is not too happy with all the coverage "Caitlyn" Jenner is getting. He is outraged that Jenner will be presented with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the next Espys.

Gerry just keeps digging himself a deeper hole.

I heard some of this today and was pleasantly surprised at the resistance Kirk and JD gave him.  Apparently, it seems like Gerry thinks the only way to show courage is to become a soldier and jump on a grenade.  Kirk and JD said that there are obviously different types of courage and that the ESPYs really mean nothing but it is nice and he is deserving (but maybe no the most deserving) of the award.

It did strike that they not once refereed to Caitlyn as a she of used female pronouns for her.

i listened for a bit this morning and callahan was talking about the united states is the last country on earth attempting to hold on to our identity

and then he went on about sharia law being in open action in places like paris
he was going about this months ago, and fox news even had to come out and apologize for a fake news story claiming this
and yet he still pushes it forward as if it's accurate

I heard a very brief exchange and Callahan brought up the woman that Jenner killed in February as a reason why not to honor her (which is a fair point, I think). Minnihane said, "I took you three hours to come up with this reason and I don't believe that you actually believe in either. You dislike her for other reasons."

I was actually pretty surprised to hear Callahan called out like that.

Have you heard the rumor that Sgt. Noah Galloway, a wounded Army vet who competes in fitness competitions, was the runner-up to win the Arthur Ashe Courage ESPY that will go to Caitlyn Jenner?

If you haven’t, many others have, and are spreading it over social media. Angrily.
...

An ESPN spokesperson told Boston.com that the Arthur Ashe Courage Award has no runners-up. In a statement, the channel said: “At all times, there are many worthy candidates. This year, we are proud to honor Caitlyn Jenner embracing her identity and doing so in a public way to help move forward a constructive dialogue about progress and acceptance.”
Snopes tracked the rumor back to one person, whose name should be familiar to Boston sports radio listeners: Gerry Callahan, host of WEEI’s “Dennis and Callahan.”

Can't decide what's more sad...Callahan's blatant idiocy, or the fact that his single tweet, which contained no claims of being anything other than his own opinion, was taken by so many fools on social media as gospel and got spread around so quickly.  It never ceases to amaze me how eroded the ability to think critically and discern truth from fiction has become in this world.

I think most sad is that there are people who actually know how to use Twitter (e.g. under 60) that give a fuck what Callahan thinks.

That Callahan ( who once said that gay people should want there to be a cure for homosexuality) said it is unsurprising.

There are probably 2 reasons. Those who agree with them listen to them. Those who want to help ensure that their idiocy/bigotry/ignorance remains in the sunlight (the "best disinfectant," as they say). I suppose some people also think they are informative and/or entertaining, but there's probably a substantial overlap between that group and the "agrees with them" crowd.

I can't tell if you're referring to avid Twitter users or Dennis and Callahan.

I love this side of social media.  It gives every idiot in the world a platform to expose themselves as such.

In arguably more deplorable "D and C" news, it appears that Gary Tanguay has become a regular part of the show. (Click).

Callahan vehemently agreeing with a caller today saying that the word to describe Jenner should not be "courageous".  It should be "selfish".

He called Jenner a 65 year old narcissist and said that it's time to start thinking of other people and the effect this will have on them.

Gah. Much worse today was their fun "game" of naming the big fat whale of a terrorist the Boston cops shot (or something - I heard maybe three minute before plugging in the podcast). I believe the "winner" was Jihadappotomous. Or some shit. Other candidates were fun takes on Allah Akbar, etc. Incredibly racist and offensive.

Although, upon further contemplation, that's a nickname Peter King could probably get on board with.

This just in: Gerry Callahan is a terrible person.
What's scary is how little he has changed in 11+ years.

I remember after the Sox won the World Series in 2004 that some of the team (Millar was one I think?) were going to be on Queer Eye for an episode or two.  You would have thought the world was going to end, "WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS LOOKING UP TO THESE GUYS??!?!?!?!" or something like that and he went on and on and on for days about it.  Dennis was more than happy to poke and prod the bear because it meant he didn't have to do anything, but I just remember thinking about how much of a homophobe that he was.

I definitely got that drift when they were beating the Sandusky situation to death a few years ago (not that sex changes have anything to do with child molestation, just that he and Dennis seemed to enjoy reading the gory details a bit too much).

It was Millar, Wake, Tek, and I think a fourth. The fact that Tek, THE CAPTAIN of all people, would participate was about as bad as it could be for Gerry. He was very proud that Timlin declined to participate IIRC.

They brought this up last year with the 10 year anniversary. Minihane was genuinely surprised to hear the Gerry cared, asking about a dozen times "Why did it bother you?" and Gerry tried to get out of it with boilerplate "the past is the past."

I think Damon was the fourth on that show. Hate to say it but it would do Callahan good if one of his kids turned out to be gay.

He was. But there were five Sox players in the episode. Doug Mirabelli was the fifth.

He drinks too much and then drives, has tattoos,  has a sex tape and he's black. Of course he's in a gang. After the Headlines, we talk about the gays, it's Gay Pride Week in Boston, but it's not a week it's 10 days! Just like the gays, 7 days isn't enough for their week, they need to be queer about it. And at 9 we'll have Patriot Monday interview with Coach Bill Belichick.

On tomorrow's show, we will mock the Women's World Cup and remind our listeners that "no one" watches soccer. Then we will criticize a sports network for shoving the games down our throats even though said tournament is being broadcast by a rival.

Minihane and Christian Fauria are yelling at each other over I don't know what.
Minihane has been taking shots at Fauria for weeks, mainly aimed at him only being on radio because he played for the Pats and that Fauria walks around WEEI with a superiority complex. Fauria confronted him on the crossover between the two shows and started off honestly asking him why he would say that stuff on air about him, and Minihane lost it and began accusing Fauria of complaining to management about him, which led to Fauria trotting out the director and asking him if Fauria had ever complained about Minihane and the guy said "absolutely not" and it just went on from there. It was probably partly staged but it was pretty great. Fauria doesn't provide anything groundbreaking but he can be funny occasionally and his football insight is decent. Minihane is just a miserable human being.

Minihane likes radio wars. I remember him going after Mike Salk. Doing it with a guy at your own station is smart. Doesn't give listener incentive to change channel, but their argument was sloppy. I could jump into any Stern staff argument and pretty quickly figure out what they were screaming about, but these two were just yelling at the same time.

On one morning this week D&c&m spent a whole segment on telling Middays with MFB not to suck. I had no idea why.

Didn't he go after Mike Adams earlier this year as well, and then called in to one of Adams' shows to "clear the air?"

EEI played the latest tough guy radio stunt by Minihan as part of the Friday drivetime show (D&H), where the hosts were clearly told to laugh about how "OUTRAGEOUS!" the other shows are. Then, EEI tells Chad Finn that they are "suspending" Minihan, thus extending the "story" and giving them more to "talk about". Those crazy EEI hosts. What will they do next?

on CSNNE's Sports Tonight last week, one of the topics of discussion was "which Boston media personality hates Minihan the most" - funny to see this happen so soon after that

I guess Tanguay and Minihan switched spots yesterday (Minihan was on CSNNE filling in for Gary)

The program director has great ideas to win the ratings book for 1995.
