I’m at the Dbacks game right now, and Carroll hit a three run bomb in his first ab. This is probably the 6th game I’ve come to this year, they’re a really fun team right now

Gavin Williams has allowed 1 hit through 7 innings in his second MLB start.

The Guardians are tied with his opponent, the Royals, at 0-0.

And Trevor Stephan makes one of the worst errors I have ever seen to give KC the lead in the 8th.

Runner on third, ground ball back the Stephan. Runners gets halfway home and basically stops, and Stephan throws, missing the catcher by about 40 feet. Runner falls, Stephan forgets to cover home, and the runner beats him there even after falling.

Acuna with two more homers tonight, up to 19 on the season. 35 steals. At the very least, a 30-30 season seems imminent.

Will Brennan grew up about a half-hour drive from KC and was playing his first MLB game there. Fortunately, two Guardians had a good game tonight and that's all you need to beat the Royals. Stephan was the worst player in a Cleveland uniform tonight and vultures the win.

Gavin Williams was painting the corners all night and when he got strike one the Royals didn't have a chance. The only hit he allowed was a single off a slider above the strike zone. Granted, the KC lineup without Perez or Pasquantino is pretty similar to the AAA lineups Williams is accustomed to facing.

The last Cleveland pitcher to throw 7+ innings and allow no more than 1 hit in one of his first two MLB starts was Addie Joss (1902).

Ohtani came out of the game in the 7th because he had a cracked fingernail. Then he came up to bat and went opposite field ‘404 for the homerun. Absurd.

How many WAR is this game worth for Ohtani? Seems like it should be approaching 1 :)

Batting 3/3 2 HR 2 RBI 1 BB

Pitching 6.1 IP 1 ER 10 Ks

The older I get, the more I appreciate the phenoms over longevity. Amorphous definition, but Ohtani has to be the best or most talented baseball player of all time. So far as I know, anyone ever doing close to what he did, did it long before integration and this level of competition.

Also, I’m loving how fucking athletic this next generation of stars is. Baseball players can look a bit like golfers, and as great as Ortíz and Manny and Pujols were, it’s nice not feeling like you can maybe beat the best player in the game in a foot race.

I truly believe that baseball is about to enter a new Golden Age. I am glad I am still here for it.

I think it’s one of the best things to come out of social media. Not only is training and nutrition and technique advice so widely available, but everyone is just pushing the shit out of everyone world wide. Being the best in your school or your gym doesn’t matter if some kid on the other side of the world is doing it better.

It’s like Roger Bannister breaking the 4:00 mile all over the world all at once. Even just with lifting. Fucking teenagers are hitting weights that were world records ten years ago. It’s astonishing.

Estevez trying to blow Ohtani's win right now, allowing 3 absolute rockets on his first 5 pitches.

Edit: Gets a ground ball, but an error on Fletcher loads the bases with the tying run on second an nobody out yet.

This is a good point.

I also think we are getting further away from all the "old school unwritten rules" crap and allowing players to have a lot more fun, too.

Has anyone fallen this hard, this fast? I mean other than a Daniel Bard/yips situation.
Mark Fidrych was 2nd in the Cy Young in his rookie year at 21 and only pitched 160 more innings in his whole career. But Manoah I'm pretty sure hasn't been hurt, don't remember someone falling off that quickly without an injury involved.

Roy Halladay is the obvious answer and the same team is trying the same thing 20 years later. Maybe it won't work this time. It couldn't be happening to a better guy.

Ohtrout with back to back triples. I guess that probably gives them a career back to back cycle, as it were, if they didn't have one already. In fact they may have one on the season now?

Alonso has 24 home runs and only 6 doubles. That's pretty impressive. I wonder how many players have ever hit 40+ home runs with less than 20 doubles. So far I've seen Thome (2002) and Dunn (2012) with 19.

Rays with a 3 run 9th inning rally last night to beat AZ 3-2. They feel like they’re sucking wind heading into the all-star break, but managing to scrap along around .500 for the last couple of weeks.

Randy and Yandy need your all-star votes!

Great teams manage to be .500 in their worst streaks.

Again I'm not sure this roster does much in the playoffs, but they're more than fine until then.

You’re welcome. My ex-Tokyo Yakult Swallows closer Scott McGough was completely dominant in his last ~20 appearances, so I picked him up for fantasy and in his first outing for me…

Somehow Cleveland has only plated 2 of their 13 base runners today, but Zack Greinke has certainly entered the embarrassing phase of his career. It looks like he's participating in an old-timers game. 11 hits allowed and 0 strikeouts in 6 innings. Barring a Royals comeback – unlikely considering Bieber is dealing today against an anemic lineup – Greinke will drop to 1-9.

Shut up Sad Sam Jones.

Trevor Stephan has become an instant rally maker.

Jose Ramirez just stole home in the 10th inning. He was initially called out, but it was overturned on replay (and it wasn't particularly close).

...and then lost anyway. A little squibber between the mound and first sets up a Freddy Fermin pinch-hit walk-off double.

Rays beat AZ 6-1 to take 2 of 3. On to Seattle to finish this crazy 2 west coast trips in 3 weeks stretch.

Has anyone used the MLB app 3-D Gameday feature? I think watching the animation may be better than watching the actual game.

Didn't know it was there until now. That's pretty impressive. Guessing an updated version of it will eventually be the default Gameday experience.

Some fancy town in CT
Three straight series wins since the scribes of SOSH declared the MFY season over with the Judge injury news. Some lessons are just never learned.
