So if Oakland hangs on today, next week actually has potentially huge wild card implications. An Oakland win would vault them past the Jets in the standings.

Pats won fair and square. Our punter was garbage but not as bad as your wrs so I can't gripe. The biggest laugh I got all day was when some poster in your game thread said "Belichick looked confused" that was good stuff. There is no way I could have said anything more troll-y but I think he was serious.
He is WR3 on the jets. I wouldn't be too fired up. He does have the greatest QB ever throwing to him and the best TE ever having defenses all screwed up trying to defend. Pats are the best of the AFC but this might not be a top 10 Pats team of the past 15 years. Still might be enough to win it all.RedOctober3829 said:Amendola says hi.

They also had 3 offensive linemen and their best RB missing. Again, they had 18 offensive players active, had 10 drops, ran the ball 5 times , and scored 30 on a good defense. Jets played about as good in the passing game as possible and still couldn't win.luckiestman said:He is WR3 on the jets. I wouldn't be too fired up. I'm very down on the league this year. You got the 6 SB teams(4-2). The 02 team and Cassell team are worse. The team that had the flu in Indy was better I thought. That's 7. It's close isn't it? I thought the team that lost the Saturday night playoff game in Denver was really good in the second half of the season.Ed Hillel said:

So what you're saying is "We're on to the 2006 Pats"?amarshal2 said:He'll be a WR3 on the Pats too.
I generally disagree with this post. Banged up team today but in general they have a good chance to be a top 5 Pats team of the past 15 years which is a big compliment.
The 2011 Pats team was extremely flawed as well. It's still early as hell in the season but I don't think it's an automatic that they're a better team simply because they went to the Super Bowl.Ed Hillel said:
Isn't the league usually some variation of this, though? Granted, the Pats have had a lot of good teams over the years, but Brady is playing as well as ever--it may be the best offense he's ever commanded--and the defense is still ok. This is the first time they've had issues with 3rd and long this year; I'm not really sure what it was. I personally thought they were far too timid with the pressure, but what do I know? I wouldn't expect them to continue to have such problems, at least not at the rate it happened today.
No way this team comes close to the 2006 team btw. That defense was certainly better, but Brady had absolutely dreadful talent at the skill positions. I'm not sure I would say the 2001 team was better, even though they won the SB. Winning the SB is hard, and takes a combination of depth, consistency, and luck. Without the Tuck Rule, would you say that 2001 team was better? It was the right call, but just making a point. The 2003 and 2004 teams were among the best ever assembled, though. We all know about 2007...
The front 4 did a great job of stuffing the offensive linemen and kept them off 54 and 91. It allowed them to roam free and make a combined 22 tackles. Branch, Brown, and Hicks did a great job.dbn said:There is some truth to the cliche that good teams find a way to win even on days they play poorly. I'm happy with this win. They just seemed off for most of the day, but also seemed to keep confident and, well, do their job. It's an important division win.
Can somebody with better Xs and Os skills than I speak to why the Patriots were successful at stopping the Jets running backs? It seemed more than just the fact that Ivory was a bit tweaked.
Honestly it reminds me of the 2010 team.kenneycb said:The 2011 Pats team was extremely flawed as well. It's still early as hell in the season but I don't think it's an automatic that they're a better team simply because they went to the Super Bowl.

Brady kicking ass, defense good enough not to let games get away, but there are some cracks showing.

That's past - well, anything except sad

the Patriots are 4-0 over the last 10 years when throwing at least 80 percent of the time.
The rest of the league is 3-109.
I actually agree with him that the league feels weak this season.Ed Hillel said:

Didnt a very similar stat come out just a few weeks ago as well? Or was that some completely different "Brady succeeding at close to 100% of the time, while the rest of league cant even tread water at under 20%"?JohnnyK said:

There was something about how Brady has something like a 13-4 record when passing X number of times, while the rest of the NFL is like 15-75 or something.
PFF's game finder is the best tool for this sort of thing.djbayko said:Three weeks ago, the stat was:
There have been 11 games this season, so far, with 49+ pass attempts by a QB going a combined 1-10. Brady was the lone win (Bills).
Since then, Brady has won again with 54 attempts (Jets), but I don't know about the rest of the league.
I do recall there being a similarly crazy stat for career, but I can't find it.
The Patriots are 15-7 (.682) when Brady passes the ball 50 or more times, including the postseason. Every other team in modern NFL history (since 1960) has combined to go 100-386-6 (.209) in this situation. The Brady Patriots have singularly won 13 percent of all the 50-attempt victories during the past 55 years of professional football...
Brady and the Patriots, however, are utterly unique in their ability to win these games: Brady is the career leader in 50-attempt games (22), 50-attempt wins (15) and 50-attempt winning percentage (.682).
Nobody else is close.
Peyton Manning is second with 17 50-attempt games, and hes just 4-13 (.235) in those contests.
The announcers said he moved amendola to the line so gronk could go in motion and that there was some confusion, but they were wrong [in hindsight].
Brady wasn't spelling it out because Gronk/Amendola didn't know the play or lined up wrong, it's because Brady recognized a 7-man blitz and knew he only had 6 guys to block. He also knew he needed more time to let chandler get down the field.
So he brought Gronk in to block (notice Brady tells gronk the snap count, "Gold 80", and Flemming (right tackle), points out Gronk's assignment). Then, he tells Amendola to get on the line to make the sure the formation is legal.
The fact that Brady can do all that at the line (without needing a timeout) is what makes him so good.
Understand what just happened. The Jets had the correct personnel and called the correct play/blitz (but for BRady's adjustment, they would have had a free rusher). Brady diagnoses the play, who will be open/mismatched and makes all those adjustments at the line within the span of about 10-15 seconds.
Goodness yes. Basically I totally butchered that post didn't I? Meant to say Denver in the first group and totally forgot to put Indy in there where I meant to.amarshal2 said:Wrong horse. You meant Broncos not Colts.
