No this isn’t the onion, and yes it’s that Bill Walton the broadcaster that people either love or despise depending on who you ask.

Though I think they may need a longer dump button, as there is a lot more stoppage time in baseball than college basketball.

So baseball is basically just doing publicity stunts now to vainly try to cover up the tanking, the shitty baseball being played, and the declining crowds and TV ratings. Nobody thinks the product is actually good and it shows.

But, as Bill Veeck once said, bread and circuses beat a long still silence.

I guess, but at the same time, what do you want MLB to do? It's a really long season and a dreadful team can be boring. I think that it's okay to spice things up once in awhile, play a game in London or in Iowa. Have Bill Walton provide color for a game. I like Bill Walton, he might be a space shot some times, but he genuinely seems to enjoy life and be present for what he's doing. I'll take that, any day, over someone like John Smoltz.

The way that I look at it, baseball shouldn't be an exclusive club. I don't think that Bill Walton will bring in "the kids" but it's fine for a one-game thing to do. And I don't think that it will do any damage to the sport.

And you know well that baseball history is littered with publicity stunts way worse than this. That's part of the game's colorful history. Honestly, I say bring on more fun stuff. I'd much rather have baseball be fun than turn into the NFL that is so tight and repressed that it was a big story that players were able to wear whatever cleat they wanted to for one game.

Yeah but I'm having a bad day today versus a good day.

The reality is both things are true, and I will probably at worst watch some highlights of the crazy stuff Bill Walton says, which means that's one White Sox game I've watched in the last 3 months. I just wish a little that baseball was doing fun, wacky stuff while also trying to make the product better. There's usually a pretty good correlation in baseball history between "Let's get wild and silly!!!" and "Nobody likes our sport right now." I don't think anybody's really got confidence in the game's structural issues being fixed anytime soon.

"Bill Walton wants a triple play with one out, and pushing for the out to be carried over"
