You have got to be kidding. Holy shit.

I’d be fine with him not being brought back after that trip.Wow and the dude has a GOLDEN opportunity to seize a regular starting OF position, even for when Kiké comes back.
Goodness.
Great opportunity to audition for next year as well. I hope the Sox find an NL trading partner who's interested in a young, cost controlled, LH OF with speed.Wow and the dude has a GOLDEN opportunity to seize a regular starting OF position, even for when Kiké comes back.

I have to believe (or at the very least hope) that the team has had discussions with every one on the 40 man roster expressing the need to be vaxxed if they hope to travel to Toronto as a member of the Red Sox. IMO it's clearly a personal choice that was made regardless to the circumstances and consequences. On the one hand, there's no international travel required playing in AAA, so maybe one could find that a convenient reason to not get a shot.
On the other, the goal is to play in the big leagues and that does require international travel, so you'd think an aspiring big leaguer would want to be as ready as he could be for when he gets there. Sadly, he's not the first or the only one to not be as ready as he could be.
Yeah, I think it's fair to be doing your research on a vaccine that has only been available for <checks notes> 18 months and has been administered to <checks notes again> several billion people. You don't want to take a vaccine willy billy that is so new and unproven as that.More from Duran:

Duran: "I feel like everybody has had their time to make their personal decisions, talk to their families and stuff like that. Since I’m up here, I’m still doing my research, talking to my family and doing what’s best for me."
Just doing his due diligence. The info available "up here" must be vastly different than what's available down there.More from Duran:

He’ll get sent down
RFsnyder is on the team as well.So it looks like Hernandez hasn't begun a rehab assignment yet, although he's "eligible to come off the injured list at any time and could rejoin the team by the end of the week."
So if he's not ready for the Toronto series, they've got Verdugo/Cordero/Bradley in the OF, with JD as backup? Bring back Jaylin Davis for depth? The team doesn't have a ton of depth in the outfield, and this just makes it worse.
Arroyo has also started a rehab assignment and will provide another potential option in the next few days: https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/red-soxs-christian-arroyo-starting-up-rehab-assignment/RFsnyder is on the team as well.
It'll be Downs who goes first. The team still has a series in Cleveland this weekend before they go to Toronto, so Duran can play there (and from a purely baseball perspective, you want Duran over Downs). That (hopefully) gives Kike the weekend to do his rehab so he can join the team in Toronto in Duran's place.Arroyo has also started a rehab assignment and will provide another potential option in the next few days: https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/red-soxs-christian-arroyo-starting-up-rehab-assignment/
I had assumed Downs being sent back to AAA would be the corresponding roster move when Arroyo is ready to be activated but now it may well be Duran.
Annnnnnd I no longer like him. Shithead indeed. He and Houck can stay in Boston and have a glue-eating party. What a fucking shit head! WTF is wrong with these guys?!?!??
Hey, in all fairness, it takes a long time to get through ALL the Google results.Dat research doe
Yeah forget about the team and the greater good -- just do the selfish thing for you and your potential career.Theoretically, how much money is Duran burning by not having the shot? Not earning the MLB minimum for even a handful of games is real money, not to speak of future earnings for an unproven prospect that is still trying to break into the majors.
Duran's major league salary is $700,000 (league minimum), pro-rated for whatever time he actually spends on the big league roster. That works out to roughly $3900 a day (180 days in a season). He's making a pro-rated $114,100 for his minor league time, or a bit over $600 a day by the same 180 day formula (I think it's probably a bit more per day when you figure the minor league season is shorter).Theoretically, how much money is Duran burning by not having the shot? He was born in Corona, CA. Maybe his research tells him that he's immune.I can’t imagine someone that put in all of the work over their entire lives that it takes to be a major league player voluntarily putting themselves into a position where they are going to get sent down to the minors, and possibly never get a chance to establish themselves as a major league player again, because they didn’t want to get a vaccine.
I think I may have actually been underestimating the effect of social media propaganda. I didn’t think that was possible.
What do you think the odds are that Ryan Fitzgerald has been feeding him anti-vax articles, figuring there's an outside chance it'll get him a shot (pun intended) in the Bigs?Yeah forget about the team and the greater good -- just do the selfish thing for you and your potential career.
DoneCan we change the thread title? He most certainly isn’t a big thing now.
You are now my favorite poster till somebody else says something equally as cool.Done
He would go on the restricted list and a replacement could be called up from off the 40-man. But more likely than not, he'll simply be optioned because Kike and Arroyo will be back and ready to be activated from the IL.Wouldn't Duran go on the restricted list for duration of Toronto series? I thought a replacement could be called up and didn't even need to be on the 40 man roster. Maybe a chance for Ryan Fitzgerald to get a cup of coffee in the bigs.
You're right, the free world truly weeps at the descent into tyranny on display in... Canada?I know it is an unpopular opinion here in the MSSR but maybe the 4 or 5 sox who are not vaccinated have done the math and seen how many vaccinated players have gotten Covid versus the number of unvaccinated. Checking back on news articles on who has actually tested positive it looks like those who have been vaxxed have gotten covid at a higher rate than the unvaxxed or at least it is almost the same. Personally I made the decision to get vaxxed and boosted, yet I have tested positive twice - 8 months apart. Looking back and reading of the number of deaths attributed to the vaccine, I'm not sure I made the right decision. I respect the right of the ballplayers to choose whether or not to get the vaccine. It's unfortunate that baseball has a team in Canada which used to be a free country but is gradually taking away so many rights that free people in the USA take for granted. Heck they have even sent ministers to jail for reading passages from the bible in their own churches. (I am putting on my flak vest now because I am sure there are lots of bullets coming my way from the many of you who do respect the players rights.)
You are aware that A MILLION PEOPLE PLUS have died from the virus, not the vaccine, right? Yes, the vaccine doesn't prevent everyone getting sick, but there is a consensus that those who have been vaccinated generally avoid hospitalization AND DEATH.reading of the number of deaths attributed to the vaccine,
There’s zero excuse for it. He’s a selfish idiot, end of story.Yeah, I think it's fair to be doing your research on a vaccine that has only been available for <checks notes> 18 months and has been administered to <checks notes again> several billion people. You don't want to take a vaccine willy billy that is so new and unproven as that.
Can we delete the post and the troll, then?View attachment 52613
The account was apparently created to make that trolling post. Let’s not feed the troll.
I saw that and thought "Who the hell would bother to make an account just to troll SOSH about Covid?" And my first guess is I think incorrect, since "MiguelDeLosSantos" is not an anagram for "Curt Schilling."View attachment 52613

I think you might be surprised how many people fall into the "I'd prefer not to get the shot, but I will if I have to" group. An acquaintance of mine works commercial fishing and just got an offer with a new company...it's a big raise and the new boat has a vaccine mandate (the old one did not), so he got his first dose last week."Doing my research" = finding a new YouTube conspiracy channel video that "refutes" everything his doctors are telling him.
It means he's never going to get it, unless it becomes a requirement to play in the Big Leagues moving forward, something I can't see the MLBPA ever allowing, even if it might be for the betterment of the league, simply because there are a LOT of members who will scream bloody murder, especially those who might have a legitimate reason to not get it (Guillain-Barré syndrome, religious belief, or have some other medical issue that a personal doctor doesn't feel is compatible with the vaccine, etc.).
Houck probably isn't either. Whether politically-driven, or because they are staunchly anti-vax (which is the same as saying poorly educated on the subject and unwilling to challenge their beliefs), or other, I think the ship has probably sailed for just about anyone who is still unvaccinated after all this time. We've basically been told we're stuck with the virus now, so they probably figure they'll just keep taking their chances. Losing the money sucks, but they're still making pretty good scratch to have built-in off-days.
We probably just have to hope Canada changes the rule rather than hoping for a sudden change of heart almost two years since the first vaccine was introduced. As someone who worked retail pharmacy for years, I can tell you with certainty that there will ALWAYS be a portion of the populace that will just never get a vaccine, even a pretty safe one like the flu shot, and the reasons will vary, though most are just because they've made up their minds about the science (or "science" in most cases) and are not going to change their minds for anything.
Hell, look at Meat Loaf: the dude refused to get vaccinated, because freedom, and died from the same virus he said he was willing to die from of it meant dying free. To quote The Captain, "some men you just can't reach."
I know a shit ton of people who have gotten covid. The only ones whoI know it is an unpopular opinion here in the MSSR but maybe the 4 or 5 sox who are not vaccinated have done the math and seen how many vaccinated players have gotten Covid versus the number of unvaccinated. Triple negatives in that sentence. Stated positively, what happened to the “shit ton of people who have gotten Covid”!who you know?I know a shit ton of people who have gotten covid, the only ones who weren't hospitalize or didn't die were not vaxxed.
The 40-man roster exemption is for replacing players who are out due to COVID protocol, it's not for replacing dumb asses who simply can't help but torpedo their own careers.Wouldn't Duran go on the restricted list for duration of Toronto series? I thought a replacement could be called up and didn't even need to be on the 40 man roster. Maybe a chance for Ryan Fitzgerald to get a cup of coffee in the bigs.
