Jared Weiss in the Atlantic noted that by trading Springer, the Sixers offseason cap number will be low enough to use the full MLE next year. So that was their motivation, along with picking up a second - which in the past year or so has come to have trade value.
I think it is right to be more bullish on Walsh, who I would say is a higher ceiling, lower floor guy. But I would not discount the potential for Springer to contribute in the playoffs. He's clearly a "D" guy (as opposed to a "3&D" guy), but if he can effectively guard the likes of Curry and Doncic, then maybe he's a good deep bench guy to have in the playoffs - not a guy you plan to play, but someone who can bring one useful skill in a pinch.
Agreed, it was a $$$ move, just like Daryl cutting Isaiah Joe last season to trim the roster to 14.
Daryl can go get Lowry for that role.
Having NBA strength, quickness & already being an elite NBA point-of-attack defender by 21 is unique. Jaden has been on an actual NBA floor and bottled up Steph/Luka
Hitting somewhat open Catch & Shoot Corner3s is one of the easier NBA skills to learn if you hit FTs at 81%.
He also hit 43% of 3s & 81% of his FTs at Tenn (SSS alert on all of his NBA/NCAA numbers)...BUT he'll need to put in the work.
Funny enough, Springer is only 6 months older than the
Thompson Twins, which is music to my ears.
