We may be saying the same thing... I'm saying that this team, from what I see, should be doing better than it is on the year.

Iunno, for 75 minutes they looked dangerous as hell but didn’t seem to have the personnel to put it in the back of the net. Seemed like Marsch had a good plan and it was executed well up to the final kick.

That said, Ayling couldn’t hit water from a boat today. His passing has been satirically bad.

No shots since the 50th minute despite 70% of the possession. Leeds needs to do something different and the only choice left is Marsch. Maybe they give him another game to integrate McKennie but I would certainly understand if they do not.

KDB on the bench as Pep rolls out what looks like a 4-2-3-1, only two central midfielders (Bernardo and Rodri) and four attacking players (Grealish, Alvarez, Mahrez and Haaland).

My wife, somewhat frazzled from the kids being dicks this morning, took 12 minutes of gameplay to put her finger on why her brain couldn’t figure out the discrepancy in which Manchester team she thought was playing.

I know Arsenal just dropped points but it’s hard to watch the difference in speed of play between the two squads right now. City are playing so slow and safe and still making mistakes and conceding. It just isn’t putting enough pressure on anyone

Pep has been forcing this 3-2-4-1 and it has completely stifled our play. I am absolutely baffled what he’s seeing that he likes as it’s allowing everyone to mark the midfield in a tight group as they bring everyone behind the ball and leave the 3 CBs open. City have lost so many CBs and don’t have the passers to play between the lines from CB so every match is this exhausting tika taka exercise where we hope for a moment or two of brilliance. All that frightening speed and one touch is replaced by this really pragmatic side to side and it’s just not causing anyone smart enough to bring men back problems. And then with all the passing happening between an effective back 5 every mistake becomes a dangerous counter.

Pep said he liked what he saw in this shape and jettisoned Cancelo but I can’t for the life of me see it. Haaland isn’t even bad on the ball I have no idea why he’s doing so much to try to keep him out of it

Tottenham are so poor/conservative in possession. So many backwards passes followed by Lloris booting it up field for a turnover. They need to keep the ball better because their defense has not been nearly good enough this season to hold out for 90 minutes.

that's two 'long' goal kicks in a row that haven't crossed the halfway line and have led to an instant Man City attack.

And it’s not like City’s pressing has been super intense. They passed it back to Lloris straight from a free kick on the halfway line.

Unsurprisingly, City look a bit more like themselves with KDB on and a change of shape back to a 4-3-3. Pep wastes an hour figuring that out. Rico Lewis also not having a great game.

Rico vs. Kulusevski is just a straight up physical mismatch.

You gonna apologize to your fellow posters for this mockery, after the PL saw fit to charge your club with malfeasance this morning? I'm not a Liverpool fan, but this haughtiness is pretty clearly undeserved and hypocritical today.
No?

The chart shows the actual reported transfer fees spent by clubs over the last 5 years.

Did it feel good to type that?

I would think someone whose club was revealed (sorry, accused by the Premier League) to have totally bullshitted basically every number they've reported publicly, might be a little more hesitant to claim that some chart made by a guy on Twitter under the handle @BlueCityBrain (looks like they're a City fan too!) is dispositive as to the net transfer spend. And moreover, would be a bit hesitant to cast stones or give Steinbrenner-esque pronouncements akin to "too bad other clubs aren't going the extra mile for their fanbases" when confronted with formal accusations to that effect, which is what I was quoting.

I'm no hater, myself, so I don't know why you're trying a tu-quoque here. I admire Pep, and have rooted for City to win the UCL last season. But if you're going to go around trying to deliver slams to your fellow PL fans, I might suggest a bit of humility, given that only one club so far has been accused of operating without any ethical boundaries whatsoever.

As I said in the other thread, I’m not engaging in this topic. You’ve demonstrated 0 understanding of what happened in the CAS case and have pronounced City guilty simply because of charges. It’s outright trolling and does the board no good for me to go back and forth. Go ahead, assume City is guilty, accuse me of whatever you want to accuse me of. I literally don’t see the point of your post.

I'm not talking about the merits of the case (as we're doing in the other thread, and civilly). I'm talking here about the merits of you slinging mud at other PL fans in hugely arrogant fashion in these game threads, of which this is merely the latest of a number of weekly examples. The point of my post is not to go around throwing stones, particularly in the circumstances your club is in. As an analogy: We have Yankees fans on SoSH, but we don't have those kind of Yankees fans.

I imagine my point is clear, and will leave it be.

I think it was directed toward me but I wasn't the least bit offended. It was sort of my point. Liverpool tried to play with the big spenders but that approach doesn't work when you need 4 midfielders and a centre back and you've only got a limited budget. You simply can't spend it all on one player (especially when it's not at a position of need....hi, Cody Gakpo). You need to spread it around or go find the next Andy for 9M or Gino for 27M.

It was in response to the post by our Evertonian friend. Liverpools problem has not been City’s spending. City have spent a lot but have only ever stretched the market with the Grealish signing. Otherwise, in spite of all the cheating we are constantly accused of doing, City reportedly walked away from deals for countless top players ( Van Dijk, Alexis, Robin Van Persie, Maguire, Fred, Kane, Jorginho, Cucurella, Koulibaly etc etc). For a club that was using its nation state status to distort the market and ruin the fortunes of the rest of the PL it sure is strange how City walked away from so many deals and became essentially the model FFP club.

And @InstaFace if you have a problem with me we can take it to PM. I’ve never ever been a sore winner on this site and comparing me to a Yankee fan is a horrible low from which I may never recover

I guess NBC Sports won't be inclined to keep showing Leeds on USA.

Also, you sack Marsch right after the transfer deadline? What happened to the long term build narrative they were selling after sacking Bielsa?

The results weren't good enough to justify it, honestly. Hell of a lot harder to do any sort of build in the Championship, which is where they are heading on results right now.

Eh, they can field an entirely American midfield if they want to. As long as Tyler Adams is out there doing Tyler Adams things, with one or both of McKennie and Aaronson, that'll be enough of a draw. That's certainly why I watch; Marsch was the least of the appeal.

The draw is more Aaronson, Adams, and McKennie than the coach though I'd think.
So you're saying that NBC Sports will continue to call them Leeds United States of America
