-Meyers obviously, sorry man
-Mac could not make throws most of the game.
-That entire goal-to-go sequence. Too many passes when it was 1st & Goal at the 2, calling a TO on 3rd down that worked have worked, getting the sneak on 4th but Jonnu was completely unaware of the snap and false started. It was brutal in a game that should have gone to OT at worst, those points mattered.
-Somehow not being ready for a snap on the blocked punt, none of our edge guys were ready to block. No clue what happened here.

Let's commiserate our misery together!

1. Belichick for overseeing such terrible coaching. Like, he picked these shitheads.
2. Special teams in particular. That guy should have his key card shut off while the plane is in the air tonight.
3. Mac, because everything is his fault.

By the way I think that TD standing was the right call. With the replays we got, there was room to interpret that he only got the ball of his foot down, in bounds, and even though the toes would have been OOB he didn't actually ever touch the ground with his toes there. That amount of doubt means upholding the call on the field.

I did see others saying there were white specks up in the air. I didn't see them myself, would love a replay of that.

Meyers - skip like 30 spots.
Mac was bad most of the day but still got his team the lead late.
Coaching. I just can't ever remember seeing a BB coached team like this.
Last spot is the refs - letting that TD stand is crazy. I don't understand why reffing has to be so hard. I don't know what a catch is and neither does the NFL. But when a player has a foot OB, whether it is only one angle out of three, the play should not stand.

I don't see how that is possible, from the angle his foot was at.

Meyers - had been a great player and story throughout his career on the pass even into today's game. However, that play is going to fall on for the rest of his career and deservedly so. That was the second brain fart in a key moment that Meyers has had this year. I hate to pile on him in a time when everyone is going to do so, but he deserves every bit for this error.

Jones- no matter what you think Jones did last year at Alabama. It's really getting hard to defend him or see how he is really the answer. From the very beginning of the game and those first two passes he was consistently awful. There were guys open at times downfield. He just doesn't have the arm, the confidence or the vision to make it all happen. Also very sick of him yelling at everybody.

Coaching - I'm not nearly down on the coaching staff as many folks here, especially when it comes to Bill. It is a really young team with lots of guys playing really significant roles for the first time in their NFL careers. So mistakes are bound to happen. They also have a lot of guys who are just average free agents and who have mostly shown themselves to be pretty meh between the ears when it counts. That being said, the message there has to be take it to overtime. The clock management on that second and goal was disgusting as well. The blocked punt was awful as well.

The refs - that was clearly out of bounds on that catch.

Just don't really know what to say after this one. The dream died tonight for the season. I didn't think they were going to win this one going in but they needed to. Despite the awful offense, they rode ram and the defense to a chance to win it and then pissed it away.

Jakobi Meyers said the plan was to run the ball and go into overtime. Said he was ‘trying to be a hero.’ “I thought I saw Mac Jones open.”

Mac Jones, the receivers for drops and not making catches that better receivers make, and Meyers. Fuck Mac, let's draft Anthony Richardson.

Pretty sure this defies all kinaesthetic laws possible. He was out.

Myers and Mac

I thought Patricia actually called a pretty good game and the OL was great, but the QB play was just awful. He sucks.

Myers, I mean. I feel badly for him tbh.

This is largely my take. Meyers is a good player, but that’s a catastrophic mistake to make in a tied game.

What did he think Mac would do with the ball on the 50 with Chandler Jones in his face?

This is the stupidest team I’ve ever seen, and they need to consider cutting Meyers for it. How can you truly trust a player that fucking idiotic?
But what will we do without our “#1 receiver”?!

I’m genuinely sorry for and worry about Meyers here. Hope he’s okay.
Yeah as dumb as that one play was, who's to say that the Pats wouldn't have stepped on their own dicks in overtime anyway. It took Carr like 2 minutes to waltz down the field the last time that he had the ball.

He didn’t make any egregious errors today but yet again I can’t wait for Agholor to be off this team. Some tough contested catch opportunities today (because his routes suck) but stone-handed all of them. That he is out there leading the team in targets today is a joke.

One thing that really hurt is Jack Jones being out. Marcus JOnes is doing his best but got picked on in that two minute drill

i always love reading your posts bc you know the game a lot better than me but I’m confused by the Richardson comment. Maybe he’s toolsy but why would a guy who sucked in Gainesville be any good in the nfl?

Ditto. His career was an incredible success story right up to about 40 minutes ago. He's been our best WR for the last 3 years and has been one of the few real bright spots since Brady left, but I'm not sure he comes back from this.

And?

He does realize the Patriots were trying to get to the far endzone, not the near one, right?

From today forward, whenever a Pop Warner, High School, College or NFL head coach addresses his team after a loss, he'll be able to say "Well fellas, today was a tough loss, very tough, but let's try to keep things in perspective; at least it's not as bad as the time the Patriots lost to the Raiders on December 18th, 2022".........................then the locker room will erupt in laughter and that loss will soon be forgotten.

What a stupid, dumb, moronic team this is; their collective football IQ is two above plant life.

This is for the best, they would have gotten demolished in the first round anyway had they by some miracle made the playoffs.

Everything happens for a reason.

1-7 in the last 8 match ups vs former assistants.

Way to go Bill.

He absolutely did not suck in Gainesville. I can elaborate later but JT O'Sullivan is on the bandwagon, Matt Waldman is on the bandwagon, Doug Farar is on the bandwagon... a lot of guys who know how to scout QBs a lot better than me love him. If you want - and this is open to anyone here - I have JT O's QB school patreon where he breaks down one of Richardson's games all-22. It's an hour and 17 minutes long but you'll learn a lot (I know I did). He has Richardson as a guy just right behind the big 2 this year and it's very close. Waldman might have him as his 1 or 2. Waldman can be unconvential though. Farar is more mainstream with his evals and he says he is maybe just 1 year away from starting if not sooner.

I’m torn about this because yes that’s the dumbest decision on a football field I’ve ever seen and it straight out lost them the game and maybe buried their season. He should be cut for that.

BUT… Jakobi is still a good receiver and overall football player and someone will pick him up and he will likely play another 6-7 years at a pretty high level in the NFL and never do anything even close to that stupid again. And we will watch him make plays for another team.

I’m honestly not sure what the right thing to do with him is.

Nobody cuts NFL players for on field brain farts like that. I don't see anyone calling for Peppers' head after he caused a punt block and very short field. Shit happens.

That said, with so many special teams mistakes this year, you have to wonder if the ST coach knows what he's doing.

I’m coming at this from the other side as a Raiders guy, but Stevenson deserves at least equal blame. He started the chain for no reason, Meyers likely wasn’t expecting it and he panicked. Stevenson should have just got down and went to OT.

Is he going to be better than Caleb Williams? Like that type of level of prospect?

Since we carry a bunch of ST-only guys I’m going to assume that it’s the coach who sucks and it’s not a talent issue. He should be shown the door in the massive staff overhaul we need this off-season.

Don't think so, no but Caleb Williams is a unicorn. He reminds me a little of Steve McNair meets Cam Newton in terms of styles.

Obviously that's the high end of the outcome.
Maybe this is better for the draft thread, but I would be really curious your opinion if the Pats should go QB this draft or trade a bunch of capital to next year and hope to be bad enough again to move up and get Caleb?

Are we sure Cardona didn't screw up and snap it early?

I honestly could not care less about the Meyers brain fart. That's all it was. It had the worst possible outcome with the greatest possible leverage, but that's all it was. I care about the 4th down conversion, the Carr march down the field that led to the TD (however controversial it was), and everything that came before it that butterfly-effected to his moment of infamy.

We have no conception of how fast this game plays and how crazy your decision-making is when gigantic specimens of the human species are coming at you to hurt you at incredible speeds. They spend their careers training to handle these speeds and size and make the correct decisions in every possibly drawn-up situation, but when something crazy happens like a chance to score the game-winner on a lateral (something they all did as kids), or the ball bounces the wrong way when you're trying to catch a punt, you don't have any pre-programming and you're just trying to do the "right thing." This game is insane and I just let these kinds of mistakes fly when the situations you are taught break down and don't apply. You also get all the praise when you come up with a brilliant idea or make a brilliant play that you weren't trained to make, so it works both ways.

I just cannot continuously believe how awful this team has become at situational football. Is there any way they beat Miami, Cincinnati or Buffalo? I want Mac to succeed but he just does not make enough plays. This offense is brutal to watch. They were 2 of 13 on third down in a game in which they ran for 206 yards, how is that fucking possible? The passing game is putrid.

Any given Sunday and all that, but there's at least a 50% chance that they've won their last game this year given the remaining competition and what's at stake for those teams.

I will say this. Don’t be shocked if the Pats beat Cincinnati next week, because that will defy all logic too but, well, that’s kind of how it’s been going.
