Congrats to Bronson Arroyo, John Lackey, and Mike Napoli for each getting one vote for the Hall of Fame.
Hard luck for Jacoby Ellsbury, who was also eligible but got zero votes.

24 mil for 4 years is 2005 money for someone like Wacha, so that’s a weird way to frame it. I await more details.

IIRC wasn't he reportedly looking for something in the range of at least 2 years/$28M? Again, looking to see how this is structured.
I believe so. 4/24 would have to be something like 10/8/4/2 with opt outs after every year, or at least after years 2 and 3. Gotta wait and see the details.

So if he pitches ok it's a 1/$7.5m. If he pitches great its a 3/$39.5m. & if he pitches disastrously it's a 4/$26m

Seems fun.

Man, I know the Sox want to stay under the tax threshold, but that seems like a pretty awesome deal for both sides. Would have loved to see him come back on a deal like that.
I imagine that since he's signing it now, as camps are opening, that it's not something he'd have agreed to in December or January when the Sox might have been more inclined to re-sign him. They moved on to Kluber and Wacha had to settle for something more unconventional.

It seems likely to me Wacha takes the player option - he should come back to earth this year - and then the Padres have a non-negligible 6M on the books for a pitcher who might be posting 5 ERAs into 2026. 3-4 years on Wacha is just absurd.

I suspect the Padres find 6M negligible with inflation / salary cap rising - I still haven't adjusted to that idea.

Ellis Burks will occasionally be part of the Guardians broadcast team this season. I haven't seen any details about what role he will fill, but since the same article stated that Pat Tabler will be added in place of regular PBP guy Rick Manning for select games, it would seem more likely Burks will be in the studio. I loved Burks as a player but obviously have not heard good things here about him in the booth.

Rick Manning is vanilla at best, hasn't had an insightful thought in 30 years, and butchers grammar, so I'm just excited this might be a sign that he's thinking about retirement.

I post this not because I give two shits about Jeurys Familia but because it's a reminder that it's coming up on decision time on guys like Raimel Tapia and Jorge Alfaro as well.

Yes, I believe that today is the day for both. Any word on Wonger's health status? I like what we've seen from him thus far, but where/how would Tapia fit in compared to the flexibility that RFsnyder gives the team?
