Tommy John surgery in 2013, missing most of 2014. Traded to the Braves this winter. Currently in the Gwinnett Braves rotation (1-0, 3.00 ERA, 12 IP in 2 starts). Throwing to old friend Ryan Lavarnway. Also, whatever happened to Casey Kelly?

Hill got back partly with help from Brian Bannister, a former major leaguer who works closely with Red Sox pitchers. Bannister helped Hill understand that some of baseball’s most dominant pitchers, like Felix Hernandez and Clayton Kershaw, throw a high percentage of off-speed pitches. Hill would have the freedom to emphasize his strengths.
Well, sort of. He was on the bag for a friend of his - Brett Wetterich - at the Valero Open (which is near Beckett's ranch) when Wetterich qualified at the last moment. He caddied for him once earlier this year at a web.com event, but Wetterich has only played in those two events all year and is currently 159th on the web.com money list at $1,147, so he's probably got a different caddie every week. I think it's more likely just Josh having fun with a buddy than any kind of work.Josh Beckett is caddying on the PGA tour. I find this comical. But, I'm someone who hates work.
Ah that makes more sense.Well, sort of. He was on the bag for a friend of his - Brett Wetterich - at the Valero Open (which is near Beckett's ranch) when Wetterich qualified at the last moment. He has an ISO of .022. At this point though, he looks like a .300 hitter who can draw some walks and that's all he has to be to be above average for the position. Interesting slash lines.Early season report on our friend Jose Iglesias. 46 AB and a .326 average, ,404 OBP, and a .752 OPS. He has one RBI and one stolen base so far. After all the speculation, he may turn out to be a decent hitter after all.
Time to update the poll? It's getting hard for me to comprehend that Adrian Beltre debuted for the Dodgers in 1998, at the age of 19. It's even harder for me to comprehend that after getting scant love in between his 2004 MVP runner-up season and his 2010 year in Boston, that since coming to the Sox he has finished in the top 15 in the MVP vote each of the last 6 years. 2010 for Boston, and 2011-present for Texas of course, but he's been on a tear from his age 31 season till now at age 37. Averaging 6.5 bWAR, and never less than 5.6. Building quite a HOF case.
For those who weren't around way back when...I think a SoSher wrote this? Deadspin at one point picked it up.Feels like this might deserve its own thread somewhere, but this oral history of the Mirabelli trade is the most entertaining eight minute read of your day.
This is not something I've ever heard.I had always been under the impresion that 'FedEx' referred to the catching combo of Tim Federowicz and Luis Exposito when they were progressing through the minors, and not Federowicz singularly.
Boy that makes me happy. I liked that kid.Who has more ex-Sox, Beane or Epstein? Ryan Kalish got a 2-run pinch-hit bloop single yesterday for the Cubs that contributed to their win, after missing all last year with two knee surgeries:

Me too. Kinda shocked he's still playing with all the injuries and surgeries, he must be about half robot by now.Boy that makes me happy. I liked that kid.
2.5 weeks later, with 92 AB (double the previous) his BA is .250, OBP .310, OPS .582. 2 RBI and 3 SB.Early season report on our friend Jose Iglesias. 46 AB and a .326 average, ,404 OBP, and a .752 OPS. That's perennially misspelled former prospect Anthony Renaudo.Anthony Renaudo is headed to the Chicago White Sox.

The continued inability to spell this dude's name--even when it is spelled in the link title--is mind blowingAnthony Renaudo is headed to the Chicago White Sox.

I apologize to Anthony and wish him luck in Chicego. The continued inability to spell this dude's name--even when it is spelled in the link title--is mind blowing
I doubt very many of the fans around here will be forgetting him any time soon. Calling Lackey "forgettable" is a bit like booing Keith Foulke in 2005.This is forgettable former Sox pitcher John Lackey...
There is a subset of our fanbase that sadly listens to the CHB's of the world. Thus, they'd rather remember "chicken and beer" than someone who pitched tremendous and won the clinching game of the World Series. These people are morons.I doubt very many of the fans around here will be forgetting him any time soon. Calling Lackey "forgettable" is a bit like booing Keith Foulke in 2005.
