deep inside Guido territory
QB(2)-Jones, Zappe
RB(3)-Stevenson, Zeke, Montgomery
WR(6)—Parker, Juju, Bourne, Thortnon, Douglas, Bout
OL(10)—Brown, Strange, D Andrews, Onwenu, Reiff, Sow, J Andrews, Mafi, McDermott, Hines
TE(2)—Henry, Gesicki

DL(4)—Guy, Barmore, Roberts, Godcheaux
Edge(6)—Judon, Uche, White, Wise, Jennings, Perkins
LB(4)—Bentley, Wilson, Mapu, Tavai
CB(5)—J Jones, M Jones, Ja Jones, Gonzalez, Bryant
S(4)—Phillips, Dugger, Peppers, Mills
ST(7)—Cardona, Ryland, Baringer, Slater, Board, Schooler, Munson

PUP: Flowers, Davis
NFI: Anderson

I believe that Thortnon and maybe Reiff will be put on IR after the initial 53 so a couple who will be cut could be brought back(Pierre Strong). I think they could trade Nick Folk to SF. I also think they’ll made at least an additional trade or two. One will try to address RT and one will address CB depth. I think guys like Cunningham, Firkser, Sokol, and Carl Davis will make it to the P-squad.

I think you nailed this. I kind of wonder if Riley Reiff might be one of those unexpected Oline retirees -- haven't had one in many years after it seeming like a regular thing.
Reiff would be a fool to retire. He's got a $4M guarantee coming his way so long as he doesn't quit. I do expect him to be IR'd, and the scapegoat for some bad off-season choices at OL.

Wouldn't be surprised if 1 or 2 of the above OL end up on the PUP/NFI/IR and they add another DE/DT from the other teams castoffs.
I know Bryant is likely to beat out Speed but I can't stand Bryant.
One of the other ST'ers probably makes it in over a third TE but with the OL in the shape it's presumably in, the 3rd TE makes a lot of sense.

Peter King had this today in his column. Thought it would be useful as the week continues:

Tuesday, 4 p.m. ET: Deadline for all teams to be at a 53-man roster limit, sending players they intend to release to the league’s personnel wire. There are two categories of players: waived players (players with less than four years of credited NFL service), or termination of vested veterans (players with four years or more of credited service). Vested veterans can sign with any team. Waived players are subject to the claiming system.
Tuesday, 7 p.m. ET (approximately): Teams will be informed of all players who have been released in a league email.
Wednesday, Noon ET: Deadline for teams to submit claims on any waived players.
Wednesday, 1 p.m. ET: Teams will be informed of any players they have been awarded under the waiver system. Once notified, each team has one hour to notify the league of a corresponding removal of a player or players from their 53-man roster to make room for the claimed player or players.
Wednesday, 6 p.m. ET: Deadline for teams to submit 16-player practice squads to the league. The league will post each team’s practice squad in an email to teams by 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.

I know Zappe hasn’t played great this summer but I’d be shocked if he’s cut. But hey there’s always some surprises.

It would be super strange to have a roster with only one guy who has thrown passes in an NFL game and, more strangely, is considered by his team to be a quarterback.

That was a good clip @Gash Prex, thanks for sharing.

Here's a stab at 53. My record as a prognosticator of BB/Pats moves is "underwhelming," but...

QB (3) M.Jones, B.Zappe, M.Cunningham
RB (3) R.Stevenson, E.Elliott, J.Taylor
WR (7) D.Parker, J.SmithSchuster, K.Bourne, P.Douglas, K.Boutte, T.Thornton, M.Slater
TE (2) H.Henry, M.Gesicki
C (2) D.Andrews, J.Ferentz
G (4) M.Onwenu, C.Strange, C.Hines, A.Mafi
T (5) T.Brown, T.Wheatley, R.Reiff, V.Lowe, C.McDermott
DE (2) D.Wise, K.White
DT (4) C.Barmore, D.Godchaux, L.Guy, S.Roberts
ILB(5) J.Bentley, J.Tavai, M.Mapu, C.Munson, C.Board
OLB(3) M.Judon, J.Uche, A.Jennings
CB (5) C.Gonzalez, Jo.Jones, M.Jones, Ja.Jones, S.Wade
SS (2) K.Dugger, A.Phillips
FS (3) J.Peppers, J.Mills, B.Schooler
ST (3) C.Ryland, B.Baringer, J.Cardona

I'm assuming that Gesicki and Thornton are immediately IR'd and replaced with 1-2 TEs, and would have added Slater, Board, and Schooler to ST if the system was set up that way.

Honestly, for the first time I can remember, I wasn't angsting over the last few cuts. If BB decides to upgrade several of these positions with FAs, I won't be shocked; if he doesn't, I'll be wrong again!

NO ONE CAN GO ON PUP OR NFI IF THEY HAVE PLAYED AT ALL DURING TRAINING CAMP.

After cutdowns, I think we'll see several moves to IR:

IR: T.Montgomery (replaced by J.Taylor), M.Gesicki (replaced by M.Sokol), T.Thornton (replaced by N.Folk), R.Reiff (replaced by J.Ferentz)

Of these, Ferentz will likely be the hardest to get to return, as he's a solid replacement across the board. I think BB will hedge on the PK position, and have Folk rejoin the team for <45 yarders, with Ryland doing the kickoffs and longer FGs.

Are you expecting Montgomery and Gesicki both to be out for >= 4 weeks? That is the minimum amount of time they would have to spend on it. Both have started practicing in non-contact jerseys, so that seems to be very conservative. And speaking of >= ... I think you got the "alligator mouth" going the wrong way with Folk and distance.

I did have the alligator mouth the wrong way - thanks for the catch. And yes, Montgomery has been out quite a bit, and while I expect Gesicki would truly be ready by week 2, the risk of running with a single TE seems pretty terrible. Teams can have up to 8 IR-to-roster transactions per year, and I think BB will take advantage of this early.

That's interesting thanks for clarifying. I assumed if someone got in a car accident the week after playing in a preseason game that was exactly the kind of injury that NFI list was intended for.

I wonder if the improvement from Jennings, Perkins and the arrival of White make Uche expendable in trade. Don't think they will look to extend him and he should have some real trade value at a premium defensive position making peanuts. I think we see at least another trade or two today, too many good players on DL/Edge and not enough roster spots.

I would need to see real game production from that group before considering trading Uche. I really like the Judon/Uche combo off the edges. Never say never but the return would have to be pretty significant for me to consider trading Uche this early. We know that Judon tends to wear down over the course of the season and he just turned 31. We've likely already seen his peak years.

Gotta say, the top two seem kind of odd to me. Is there real benefit in activating Anderson today rather than tomorrow, which would have allowed someone (Thornton?) to be IR'd with a chance of return? And if Anderson helps shore up tackle, wouldn't there be more opportunity for a guard (Hines) vs. one of the two OTs the Pats just traded for, or the ones who've turnstiled their way through the preseason?

In BB we trust, though...

There goes our best player the last few years. Good luck Nick.
Yeah, a very valuable & reliable contributor for a scrap heap pickup. Nick was also pretty cool to my son and his friends when he approached them and signed a jersey for one of them at training camp.

Thank you Nick Folk!

Yup. I feel a little badly for Folk because last year he was again having a terrific year until stupid Jake Bailey went and sucked/got hurt -- which fucked Folk two ways: first, by taking away his placeholder and second, by requiring him to do kickoffs which he had rightly given up years earlier. As a result, he didn't do either job nearly as well and people started to do the old negative nancy routine with him. But he was an exceptionally good kicker for us when we really needed one.

Perfect 50-50 inside the 40 as a Patriot. Hit 90% of his kicks overall. We all should have known that a "Folk" would deliver. Will miss him. Hope Ryland can meet the moment.

Folk was so good inside 50. A machine. Huge help for the offense. But he couldn't kick off well, when pressed into that service. And his cap hit of nearly $3m is much higher than Ryland's will be ($946k). Given that Ryland's leg is bigger and was pretty accurate in camp, this is worth the risk. So by picking Ryland and moving Folk, they get a potentially better overall kicker, one that can also handle KO duties, and costs a lot less, plus adding a future 7th round pick as well.

Eh. He missed four FG under 50 yards last year, tied for the most in the league, and they rarely attempted kicks over 50. Sure he made most of his FG, but that’s true of pretty much every kicker in the league - and his inability to kick off (9% touchbacks! Most kickers were well above 50%) was a massive problem. Glad they finally moved on.

Folk was a lot better than I thought he would be, although his range limitations were greater than any other kicker in the league and always felt like a real disadvantage in close games. I'm happy they addressed the position.

We've had a pretty good run with place kickers until last year, maybe the best in the league since Vinateri started? Hopefully Ryland can continue that
