In there
Well, my prediction is out the window. Mazz is being being extremely fair.

And Felger is disguising his usual stance on Moss with his Jim Nantz impression.

Holy crap, this is amazing. Felger going over the Moss thing in a slow, deliberate tone with soothing music in the background.
I was driving back from a meeting and heard this, it was all kinds of awesome "I'm channelling my inner Jim Nance." because he was called out by Borges of all people for being too negative.

I didn't hear the show but Dale and Holley usually do their Monday Football shows right at Patriot Place, so Kraft was probably right down the hall.
Right down the hall or not, he could have just as easily called into 98.5, still has to be a slap in the face of 98.5. I don't blame him, he seems to have a decent relationship with D&H, and EEI kisses their ass on a daily basis so it makes sense, but still... 98.5 is the flagship station of the Pats.

Did you know that WEEI pays for rights for the Patriots Monday and Friday shows? I am pretty sure that is the reason he has to go on that station today.

Alright well, the Moss reaction was a little different than anticipated but the vast majority of us pegged this reaction to the Mankins story from a billion miles away. If Mazz manages to make it through the final 2 hours without bringing up Teixieria you might find my body at the Brigham and Women's morgue, dead from shock.

Is he riding the Schefter express on this -- or is his reaction conditioned by a thousand "ifs"?

If Schefter didn't goof, then Bob Kraft flat out lied. Does Felger want to bat .500 with the local franchises on this front?

Does that even actually mean anything? I assumed (besides the rights to broadcast games) that it was just a gimmicky thing to say in and out of breaks. I'm willing to be there is a decent chance that Kraft is aware that Pats games are on 98.5 but doesn't know/care about "The flagship station of the Pats". Seems like a non-issue.

The rights for the Patriots were given to 98.5 back when it was still WBCN. Back then, during the week, there wasn't a market for mid-week sports interviews on WBCN. However, at the time, WEEI was competing with ESPN Radio, and signed some exclusive rights contracts for those specific interviews on those days. When the paperwork was signed, it wasn't a slight to the "Flagship Station". They didn't want them that much.

Here we go again with Felger ball washing the Jets because they move up in the draft and pay money to players while the Patriots go for value. Does Felger not realize the Pats have had 2 pretty damn good drafts the past 2 years?

2009 Draft

Patrick Chung - starting S in 2nd year
Ron Brace - finally contributing after moving to an end position
Darius Butler - starting CB in 2nd year
Sebastian Vollmer - starting RT in 2nd year, makings of franchise left tackler
Brandon Tate - Impact KR and 3rd receiver behind Moss and Welker
Jake Ingram - starting LS
Myron Pryor - Key reserve DT
Julian Edelman - Had very solid rookie year and has makings of a Welker Jr.

McKenzie, Ohrnberger are practice squad while Bussey and Richard are IR'd

2010

Devin McCourty - starting CB as a rookie. looks solid and can play special teams
Rob Gronkowski - Has makings of being a great all around TE
Jermaine Cunningham - unproven OLB but team likes him enough to dump Burgess and give him a bigger role
Brandon Spikes - Has makings of being a good tackling ILB
Taylor Price - redshirt season, will be non factor
Aaron Hernandez - TE who creates mismatches
Zoltan Mesko - starting punter
Brandon Deaderick - redshirt year for him

Mike really needs to stop with this value shit. The past 2 drafts have been fantastic and look to have made the team much deeper going forward. To me the past 2 drafts have gotten 14 players that will be factors in contributing to this team. Price and Deaderick don't factor in here now since I think neither will see the field much.

You can get a good sample of it as Felger will be on CSN for Sports Tonight in 10 minutes with Curran and Borges.

Felger keeps checking the clock like a kid on the last day of school. He swears the hands aren't moving.

Either we're all dorks, or Felger is really good at his job. (probably a little bit of both)

I am waiting with baited breath about what he has to say about this game, too.

Great move by CSN to move his Sunday show to 7:30. This is a real good preview about what the agenda of tomorrow's "Felger and Mazz" will be.

I think it is because Felger is pretty honest in his assessments about the Patriots and completely impartial. You aren't going to get pom poms and for the most part he isn't a hater (his feelings on Moss excluded) so his opinions are usually pretty valid and often mirror my own.

Plus, yes we are all dorks.

I don't know what makes me more upset, that the Pats played so horribly, or that Felger, Shaughnessy and Borges now get to jump for joy all week long and lecture us about how right they were about the Pats being a bad team this year.

Actually, Felgy predicted a Pats win today. While I agree with you about Shank and Borgy, I think that Felger is balls on regarding the Pats.

No he's not. He's lying and the worm will turn tomorrow if not sooner. Before midnight he'll be sucking CHB and Ron the Cheater's nuts.

He just hosts a radio show...relax.

His main job is to entertain. I think he does a great job with that. And judging by the amount of posts you've made in this thread, you seem to listen a lot, so you probably agree with that statement, right?

Felger predicted a Pats win. He ballwashed the Jets for 4 months, and then when Gary Tanguay called him on it during the Comcast show on Friday, Felger said, "Oh, I sold on the Jets a long time ago. I sold on them after they got rid of Leon Washington. I didn't get that." The man is duplicitous, but you already knew that. For the record, I'm not a dork and I don't find Felger entertaining. I find his act extremely tiresome, and Mazz is ten times worse. Awful show.

If his main job is to entertain, then he shouldn't present himself as a reporter/analyst. He should present himself as an entertainer. And judging by your number of posts, I'm sure you know the difference. I'm a newcomer here, and, as such, I want to be respectful of those who have been here longer than I have. I mean that. But, anyone who thinks that Michael Felger believes everything he says is a fool. It's OK if he plays the entertainer, but on one of his ad snippets for Comcast, he says something to the effect of, "I've never said anything I don't truly believe." Now, if you think he's an entertainer, do you believe that?

Yeah, I do believe that Felger is pretty genuine with his thoughts. I'm also pretty sure that he embellishes his thoughts for radio/TV, but everybody does that. Every person you see on TV or hear on radio is likely an "amped up" version of their real-life self. They all play a character to an extent. And I like his character...but I understand that it's different strokes for different folks.

Well you are certainly doing your best to look like a jackass when you call a number of posters in this thread fools.

There is not one poster that contributes regularly to this forum that washes anyones jock, we all pretty much call them like we see them. All you need to do is read any 3 or 4 pages of this thread and when Felger starts to drives people nuts we call him on it. He's not perfect and he has some whacked out ideas and opinions at times but for the most part I think he really believes just about everything he says, something we have covered in the past.

He doesn't flip flop but he has no problem admitting when he is wrong or when he has been proven incorrect. Does he take things too far sometimes, yep. Does he make bold predictions that don't pan out, yep. But he is still an entertaining listen and if you don't feel that way, fine. There is another show down the dial that might be more to your liking.

Today's game did go a long way in helping prove out Felger's theory on Moss, however. I can't help but think this team would have been better off without Randy yesterday. If Brady can't decide not to throw to him on his own that is.

I said the exact same thing during the first half. That it was nice to see Brady go back to his old ways "My favorite receiver is the open one" which is what he did in the first half. When Revis went out he started to force the ball to Moss, I wonder if there would have been a different outcome if Revis stayed in the game.

Probably wishful thinking on my part because the defense looked like shit.

I have my issues with him, but for the most part Mike Felger is a good radio host. Tony Massarotti isn't just bad, he's stunningly bad. Not only is he essentially a moron who doesn't even pay attention to sports all that much, but he has about the worst radio voice I've ever heard. It's a testament to Felger that the ratings for this show are as good as they are. Holy shit, Mazz sucks.

I come in here and read this thread every now and then and wonder what I'm missing about Felger. Then I try to listen to him and last for about 5-10 minutes. I just don't get it. He's not very knowledgeable, doesn't seem to care to be and would rather just troll the "talking points". Even when I agree with him, I can't listen to him for long. I'd almost rather listen to Fred Smerlas.
Felger's ratings obviously show he's doing something right but I, too, think it is an awful show.

If they had just gone up a little more Tex was...

Mazz doesn't even change the way he presents it... its awful - Maz, THE SOX HAVE SCORED THE 2ND MOST RUNS IN BASEBALL. Mazz also says they don't have impact talent ready to come up from the minors yet they've scored the 2nd most runs without Youks and Pedroia for half the season, Ellsbury for the whole season, Cameron for the whole season and Victor Martinez for almost 2 months. What did they use smoke and mirrors?

Its incredibly poor analysis that he beats to death, over and over...

Missing out on Tex wasnt exactly a good thing, but his approach demonstrates his laziness. If he made the argument 'Offensively the Sox were great this year, but now they have to resign or replace Victor, Ortiz and possibly add an OF bat, and next year they have to replace JD as well. But if they signed Tex they would have their 2-4 slots etched in stone with Pedey, Tex, Youk, and then they could more easily build around that.' Thats a decent argument and you could use that to make the case that losing Tex was a huge loss, instead we get 'for only another 10M' and he is starting to remind me of the 'for the price of a cup of coffee you can sponsor...' commercials.

Not a bad show today, pointing out an ESPN article that says that from 2002-2008 the Pats were 66-1 when they had a half time lead, and 9-5 since then. 3-5 I believe in games where they had a 10+ point lead. @_@ Only down side is I think Felger's completely ignoring the fact that the sample size is very small, and 16 of 18 games in it is the first season where he came back from the injury. Felger to his credit thinks Brady can turn it around, while Mr. "They Should Have Signed Texeira" is his usual Pats suck Brady sucks football sucks self.

Oh, I agree completely with your points. And its debatable a few different ways but Mazz's constant (as you put) "for only 10M more" argument makes it seem like they are just cheap when 1) they spent the most they ever have and are not cheap and 2) the Yankees may have outbid them anyway.

My basic points are
1) Its at best disingenuous to say that the Sox could have had Tex for only 10M dollars more.
2) He repeats this point like a parrot, over and over. (see posts in this thread)

I assume the 1 in the 66-1 includes the 04 Monday Nighter at Miami. The playoffs should be included when talking about such a stat. Under Belichick, the Pats are 11-2 when leading at the Half of playoff games. Obviously, very good, but it does show there was more than one game over that span that they had blown the lead.

Not only are they second in runs, but they're second in home runs, which is the only thing that matters if you listen to Mazz.

There is no comeback to this, so whenever the point is brought up they turn it into "Well, they have a lot of work to do in the offseason just to get back to this level, and let's list the reasons why they'll probably fail (just like we thought they did last offseason WHOOPS)"

Guys, Felgy was pretty good today especially when he shit on Mazz for the Ichiro shit. Mazz has become very tiresome to me.
This. If there's no way they can nab Holly, then they need to rotate hosts for Felger. Mazz is just so obnoxious. Maybe find someone to co-host two of the five days and give Mazz three days. Even moving DA in here and there would be way better than frickin' Mazz 5 days a week.
