DFA Craig | Call up Rusney

Move Masterson to the pen | Call up Rodriguez

Honestly I wouldn't mind giving any AAA starter some starts and I don't care what starter you skip or move other than Porcello. Johnson, Owens, Rodriguez, Wright.  See if one of them can get hot.  What's the downside at this point?

LF, 1B, SS, C all need fixed. Our RF can barely field. Our 3B has shown a disappointing amount of power. Every SP except Porcello needs fixed.

A few changes aren't enough to right this ship IMO.

That sounds like they don't want to wait for Vic to make a change.

Bradley up, Craig or Nava gone. Vic up on Monday, Bradley back down.

Barnes down, Jedi to the pen, Rodriguez up.

Within a week or so, you hafta think we are looking at Castillo and Bradely up with 2/3 of Vic/Craig/Nava gone.

Is Hanley taking starts from Napoli at first an option?

v RHP

Betts7
Pedroia
Ortiz
Hanley3
Sandoval
Castillo9
Bogaerts
Bradley
Swihart.

It's a rebuilding year albeit an expensive one.

I was just wondering, what value would Allen Craig have if the Red Sox were to eat his entire contract?

I think he's AAA bound. He may not like it, but what has he done since coming here to show he deserves his roster spot? I don't think the Sox are going to eat his $25M... yet, at least.

JBJ tomorrow and Shane activated on Monday.  I'm sure that's gonna send a tremor though the league.

Craig has minor league options left. They're going to send him down and hope he plays his way into trade value where we only eat 20m of the 25m he's owed.

I'm not sure he'd mind it at this point.  He needs at bats, and he knows he hasn't hit well in two years.  Let him figure it out--or not--down there.

AC has a negative value now if he played for free. I would think he has to be moved to AAA.

It is, if it means Hanley to 1b, Napoli benched, and Craig DFA'd.
Hanley at 1B is mentioned occasionally.  Has he ever played there?  Papi at first is more comforting and not much more.

JBJ being promoted to sit on the bench while Victorino starts isn't a roster move that makes that much of a difference.

@MikeSilvermanBB: Based on multiple indications, Allen Craig not expected to be w Red Sox tomorrow afternoon. Optioned to minors, trade all on table.

I agree. Vicrorino should meet same fate as Craig unless you prefer him to be reserve OFer over Nava.

I would be happy if the changes being mentioned here were made, but I continue to worry that they might ship out BROCKHOLT and others for pitching. I can imagine a lot of teams wanting him for various positions. His value to the Red Sox seems high, to me, but perhaps that's a luxury they can't afford?

Sad, but true at this point that this needs to happen. I was among those hoping he'd work his way out of whatever went wrong.

But, again, swapping out the team's 25th man hardly seems like the shakeup that would restore life into this group

Heresy admitted, but how bad would it have to get before the FO asks Papi to waive his 10-5 rights if the right deal (Minny, LAA, Hou, maybe even Det, etc.) came along? (and then move Hanley to DH)

I would assume if this was the only move Farrell would have said "roster moves" not shakeup. I'm guessing there will be a few more

Can we keep this thread to the moves likely to happen and where there are actual hints of happening ... and keep trade spec out of thin air off to the side for a while?

And when Castillo is ready, assume Holt becomes infielder only, and Luis Jimenez is gone.  Even though Holt is the least comfortable at 1B, he may get starts there vs RH pitching if Napoli continues to stumble.

Starting OF will be Ramirez/Betts/Castillo, with JBJ the 4th OF vs RHP and Victorino being the 4th OF vs LHP.  JBJ becoming late inning defensive replacement if the Red Sox ever get another lead.  I don't see how Victorino gets many at bats once Castillo comes up, but I don't think the Sox are too concerned about it.

There's no point in having JBJ as fourth OF. If he's not going to start he needs to be in AAA.

I'm confused by the placement of the word "all" in this tweet.

Was it mistakenly entered, and there's a "trade on the table", or is Silverman  indicating "all are on the table" in trade talks?

Holt is on bereavement leave. When he's back, he needs to be starting and hitting 9th to turn over the lineup for Mookie, wherever he plays on the field.

Subsitute "both" for "all." Minors, trade both on table.

I took it as being optioned to the minors, or traded. If they can't trade him he goes to Pawtucket. If they can trade him, good riddance.

Why wouldn't Bradley be the 4th OF?

1, Ramirez really needs a defensive caddy,
2. A starting OF with both Castillo and Ramirez would have two players that have showm a tendency to get nicked up (SSS for Castillo)
3. With the exception of last year, Bradley showed a pronounced platoon split in the minors.  This year it's even more pronounced, although only after 100 PAs or so.
4. With Bradley as 4th OF, it allows you to have Holt as infield Backup and, in effect, he takes Jimenez spot on the 25 man roster.
5. At this point, with the season starting to tank, they may not be as concerned with JBJ's trade value as starter v. utility.
6. I don't think Castillo will be called up until after the upcoming road trip.  They'll have to move Nava, if and when Victorino comes back next week.  I don't think they'd have called up JBJ for just a game or two.

Because you want him getting regular at bats. It's very possible that Papi, Craig, and Napoli are all gone at the end of the season. That would mean JBJ is a starting OFer.

As far as "selling" being sent to AAA to Craig, Farrell can certainly say something like "Given how much the whole club is struggling right now, we just can't wait for you to get your swing together, which I am confident you will do."

Or he could stare at him incredulously as he points to his numbers over the last two years. Why are we worried about "selling" it to him?

Who the shit is going to trade for Allen Craig?  And what would they give up?  A plunger?  A deck of 51 cards?

There's no non-steroids-related way Papi is gone after this season. He's sitting on 470 hrs, is signed for reasonable money, and still hits okay enough not to be a complete black hole. Hanley's the future at DH though, that's for sure.

Again, Shane is being activated on Monday.  He will play for better or worse to begin with.  JBJ is holding BROCKHOLT'S place (bereavement) for a couple days.  Pitchers are rotating in and out with that extra spot (Craig) short term.  Right?

My guess is that Napoli is going to ride the pine, Hanley starts taking grounders at 1st and JBJ in LF.  Though they are probably better off with Vic, Betts, and JBJ left to right at this point, since Shane isn't the same fielder he was.

I hate that Ortiz is never going to see the bench against lefties without squawking.

That hasn't been an issue at all. Hitting .150 is the issue.  Papi better get used to platooning and so should Sandoval.
