Definitely a perfect storm of sorts.
2015: 11-5, #9 offense in the NFL - Kelce a pro-bowler
2016: 12-4, #13 offense in the NFL - Hill an all-pro, Kelce an all-pro
2017: 10-6, #6 offense in the NFL - Hill a pro-bowler, Kelce a pro-bowler, Hunt a pro-bowler
So when Mahomes entered the starting role in 2018, he already had three very very big-time players at skill positions. Kelce was the #1 or #2 TE in all of football. Hill was a top 3 WR in all of football. Hunt was one of the best RBs. Their OL was loaded. And they had a genius offensive mind running things.
And in steps wunderkind Mahomes on a rookie deal. So they can afford all these guys. This isn't to say Mahomes isn't great because he is. There's nothing on the football field he can't do, it seems. Makes every throw. In total command. Smart. Athletic. Incredible.
BUT...
He walked into a perfect situation. And at some point, Hill will be gone. It's not likely that the guy replacing him will be as good. Kelce will be gone, and it's almost certain that the next guy won't be as good. Their RBs already aren't as good as Hunt. And as his $$ figure goes up considerably, it will be harder to replace these guys.
This is why dynasties generally don't last more than a handful of years, no matter how good the QB is.
And it's why we should never fail to appreciate Brady and Belichick.
