Dodgers acquire Tyler Glasnow from the Rays

It feels like to me that if we were being rational right now, the Dodgers trading a top prospect for Glasnow and signing him to this extension after the Ohtani signing would signal that they are out on YY — instead, we’re diving back into pre-2004 Sox fandom and thinking it makes our chances with YY even worse.

Exactly, what purpose is served by announcing your intentions? Offer the obvious, " looking for two top tier pitchers, possibly one via trade" and leave it at that.
People were saying the same stuff about Bloom being quiet. Ultimately, it meant that nothing happened. I think that is what happening here too.

Bloom may have been quiet, but he was also forthcoming with the approach of building from within and the Tampa approach of finding value. Breslow has already been pretty forward in saying they are looking for two top-line starters. The only thing they have in common so far is being quiet and not leaking.
Learn what, exactly? They're in the playoffs every single year while being strategically aggressive in flexing their big market muscle in both free agency and trade acquisitions all while maintaining a top end farm system. What exactly would you advise they do differently? They are the model franchise.
Obviously a lot of this depends upon what we mean by “Super Team,” but if it means a team that goes out and buys a bunch of stars and wins a championship, sure.
The Rangers, for example, just won a World Series by throwing Scrooge McDuck levels of money at Corey Seager, Semien, and deGrom, brought in solid FAs Eovaldi and Jon Gray, and grabbed Scherzer and Montgomery at the deadline.
There was a little confusion on how the extension was reported. It’s 3 years at 30m then a club option for 30 or a player option for 20 for the 4th year. So 4yrs/110m guaranteed. This is on top of the 25m he is owed for 2024. 27m AAV for next 5 years for luxury tax purposes.
This is a great deal for the Dodgers. It’s also a great deal for the Rays. And for Glasnow. Win/win/win. The Dodgers and Rays are so complementary in situations like this, it’s almost like they’re colluding. They value players the same way, they have the same organizational philosophy, just the bank account which is a little different.

Any contract on Glasnow was going to be high risk/high reward. But 4/110 seems like a good gamble to me for a big market team, Glasnow is that good when healthy.
I know it's not apples to apples since this isn't free agency, but I'd FAR prefer 4/110 for Glasnow at age 30 compared to 5/185 for deGrom at age 35.
Even with a partially healthy and similarly dominant 2024, Glasnow would likely do better in FA. Though I agree it's a "win-win", as Glasnow I'm sure is thrilled to have over 100M guaranteed and set for life given all of the injury issues.

The best part about this is that every article references how Glasnow was originally acquired by the Rays, and nobody just calls it the Archer trade—it’s the Archer heist or the fleecing, etc etc. It was so lopsided that you cannot reference it, even in passing when writing about something else, without a snide comment.
