Hmm, I would think the opposite. They’re out on Yamamoto, surely.I think they’re really loading up. I believe they made this deal in part because Yamamoto is coming to LA too. The ‘25 rotation is going to be unreal. Ohtani, YY, Glasnow, Buehler, May/Gonsolin.
You said this out loud?! What on earth makes you think they’re “out” on anyone at this point? Money clearly is no object. They’re out on Yamamoto, surely

Feels like a really solid move for the Rays. The Chris Archer trade just keeps giving.
Has a Super Team(tm) ever won it all?I think they’re really loading up. I believe they made this deal in part because Yamamoto is coming to LA too. The ‘25 rotation is going to be unreal. Ohtani, YY, Glasnow, Buehler, May/Gonsolin.
Career high IP: 120.I’m unbelievably interested in what this extension looks like.
Either is way, the Rays keeping Raying. What a great trade. Crazy what you can do when you create a pitching factory and stick with a real process.
And Glasnow is awesome when he pitches but he often a doesn’t pitch. Often often.
I think the extension is going to look like a bargain compared to the nutso numbers being thrown around on Yamamoto. Glasnow seems like a super level headed guy and has to appreciate his own fragility. Locking in a big deal a year ahead of time is a huge benefit to someone with his history, he’s from LA and it would just make no sense for him to scuttle this deal by taking a hard line stance. He’s going to do a very team-friendly deal and he’s going to absolutely kick ass in the NL West (as long as he’s healthy).I’m unbelievably interested in what this extension looks like.

What do you mean by the last sentence?I think the extension is going to look like a bargain compared to the nutso numbers being thrown around on Yamamoto. The ‘09 Yankees and ‘18 Red Sox are the only teams this century to win with the highest payroll. I guess those count as Super Teams.Has a Super Team(tm) ever won it all?
2004 Sox.The ‘09 Yankees and ‘18 Red Sox are the only teams this century to win with the highest payroll. I guess those count as Super Teams.
You forgot RokiI think they’re really loading up. I believe they made this deal in part because Yamamoto is coming to LA too. The ‘25 rotation is going to be unreal. Ohtani, YY, Glasnow, Buehler, May/Gonsolin.
And that was last year. 529 IP in 8 seasons. And the Dodgers are planning to sign him to a nine figure extension at age 30? OK.Career high IP: 120.
I see like $184M for the MFY and $127 for the Sox?2004 Sox.
That Sox team was absolutely loaded though the Yanks outspent them. I was more commenting on the OP that talked about super teams. Just about every position had a past or future all star. And those that weren’t were still spectacular.I see like $184M for the MFY and $127 for the Sox?
I think they will swing another trade for a pitcher. Likely Randy, Ramirez or Paredes will get sent out. Maybe a good match with Seattle. As much as I like Pepiot, and I really do, I really feel like the Rays are gonna take a step back in 2024.
The rotation has been decimated by injuries, no Wander Franco, etc.
It took a couple of years to come together, but first it was, the Rangers are signing Seager. AND Semien? The next it was, they’re signing Eovaldi AFTER signing deGrom? And then, they’re trading for Scherzer AND Montgomery?Has a Super Team(tm) ever won it all?
Yes but they won’t pay Glasnow 95% of that nine-figure extension until 2075.And that was last year. 529 IP in 8 seasons. And the Dodgers are planning to sign him to a nine figure extension at age 30? OK.
Ironically 21 year old rookie Evan Carter took them to the next level, he didn’t come up until Sept 8 and then he had a .917 OPS batting third in the postseason. He came up so late that he is still eligible for Rookie of the Year this year, same as Randy Arozarena a few years ago.It took a couple of years to come together, but first it was, the Rangers are signing Seager. Not arguing with you, but I'm legitimately surprised. The 2004 Sox had a higher payroll than the MFY?2004 Sox.
No, and it wasn't close ($127 vs $184)Not arguing with you, but I'm legitimately surprised. The 2004 Sox had a higher payroll than the MFY?
Yeah, that's what I was seeing as I was looking it up. I also should have read the rest of the thread before I posted as I saw it was addressed above. My bad.No, and it wasn't close ($127 vs $184)
I mean sure---but you're counting on a guy they haven't signed and a guy we don't know if he can pitch again. We should pump the brakes a bit.I think they’re really loading up. I believe they made this deal in part because Yamamoto is coming to LA too. The ‘25 rotation is going to be unreal. Ohtani, YY, Glasnow, Buehler, May/Gonsolin.
What exactly are you saying that the smartest, most successful team in baseball will never learn? That pitchers get hurt? I think they probably know that. Are they supposed to learn that it's dumb to pay money to good players? Because so far that strategy is working out pretty well for them.I can't wait for the Dodgers to have zero healthy starters come playoff time - they will never learn. MLB Tonight will be debating whether they should let Shohei throw a few innings "since it's part of his rehab" rather than having Joe Kelly start.
I addressed that above. I was speaking to the original post, not in terms of cash. Not arguing with you, but I'm legitimately surprised. The 2004 Sox had a higher payroll than the MFY?
I feel the opposite. Firmly puts him in the top 10 salaries for a starting pitcher, but he's only thrown 300 innings total since 2019.Wow, that’s it? A pretty short deal. Guess he didn’t have a ton of leverage, but seems like as a free agent he could have potentially gotten a lot more than that in a year.
1 World Series in the past 20 years despite being in the top-10 in payroll almost every year. And save your "but regular-season wins" argument -- there's no President's Trophy in baseball. What exactly are you saying that the smartest, most successful team in baseball will never learn? That pitchers get hurt? I think they probably know that. Are they supposed to learn that it's dumb to pay money to good players? Because so far that strategy is working out pretty well for them.
The innings pitched are truly abysmal for a starter, I'm personally quite glad we didn't go for this.I don’t know if it was available to us, but I’d have wanted to make an equivalent trade-and-extend for Glasnow.
If you're him, are you betting on yourself or the guaranteed $27.5M four the next 4 years and the possibility of multiple rings?Wow, that’s it? A pretty short deal. Guess he didn’t have a ton of leverage, but seems like as a free agent he could have potentially gotten a lot more than that in a year.
Fair, and if LA is where he wants to be, why mess around. If you're him, are you betting on yourself or the guaranteed $27.5M four the next 4 years?
